If Westeros were to be set in the modern day United States, what states/regions would each of the Seven Kingdoms represent?

Stark: energy (dams, power plants, etc.), wood for construction and firewood, leather and fur…

Tyrell: farming, breeding, food processing.

Baratheon: security, armament, military equipment…

Tully: textile industry, clothing and ready-to-wear.

Lannister: banking and financial services obviously.

Hightower: law firms, insurance firms, universities…

Arryn: high value-added manufactured products, jewelry…

Martell: porn industry,

King’s Landing: Washington, D.C.

Vale: Northeast

Riverlands: Finger Lakes region

Westerlands: California

Reach: Great Plains region

Stormlands: Carolinas

Cheating a little for the next two. . .

North: Alaska and Canada

Dorne: Mexico

Bonus - Summer Isles: the Caribbean

The only one I’m struggling with is the Iron Islands. I suppose the Aleutian Islands could work, although they would probably work better as a stand-in for Bear Island.

@Alex13 you're asking two separate questions.

If your question is about which parts of the United States of America would the Seven Kingdoms represent...

  1. King's Landing and the Crownlands: Washington, D.C. and the Northeast
  2. The North: Alaska
  3. The Iron Islands: Hawaii, Guam, Puerto Rico (geography and status as cultural/religious other) and the Pacific Northwest (climate)
  4. The Vale: the Rocky Mountains (for the Valemen) and the Appalachian Mountains (for the mountain clans)
  5. The Reach: the South and the Great Plains
  6. The Riverlands: the Great Lakes, the Mississippi River floodplains and the Ozarks
  7. Dorne: southern California and the deserts of the Southwest
  8. The West: the Rocky Mountains (for the gold), the Midwest

If your question is about the industries of the Great Houses:

  1. Tully - freshwater, agriculture (continental)
  2. Tyrell - agriculture (southern continental), animal, wine,
  3. Martell - wine, spirits, agriculture (Mediterranean, arid), energy
  4. Targaryen - seafood
  5. Lannister - banking and financial services, jewelry
  6. Greyjoy - metals, salt
  7. North - furs, limber, energy
  8. Arryn - luxuries
