Exactly, when the status quo is bad, people will try to change it, despite the risks. The status quo is bad for Pentos. Yes, the Pentos princes are very likely only there with the support of Braavos. But no, the Braavosi army is not protecting Pentos, or else they would not need to pay the Dothraki to leave them alone. The Braavosi navy goes after pirates and corsairs all across the Narrow Sea, not just for Pentos' benefit but for theirs.

And the most fundamental flaw in your argument is that Pentos, and Penoshi masters, would become vastly more wealthy and powerful by doing that they want, rather than just what Braavos allows them to do.

Vidkun Quisling, Miklos Horthy and Philippe Petain might disagree with what you typed down. Or they did not became more wealthy and powerful when Nazi Germany lost WW2. In fact "ungrateful" Norwegians executed their ex head of state, his Hungarian colleague was exiled and died as poor man in Portugal and Marshal Petain died in French prison.

Besides Hungary actually stopped being relatively wealthy country and became part of Soviet Empire and most Hungarians lost their freedom, wealth and many of them even their lives. Or it is possible that Pentos will have similar destiny. So if Braavos becames too weak to stop other predators then Pentosi would became target of those predators.

Anyway I don't think that the Iron Bank will go bankrupt or be taken down, nor that their debt won't be paid in the end because the IB ending would cause tremendous economic chaos across both Essos and the Seven Kingdoms and that it will be a test and proof of credibility and competence for whoever ends the ruler at the end of ASOIAF to pay that debt.

The other banks of Myr and Tyrosh refused to grant any loan to the Iron Throne after Cersei retardly refused to pay the Iron Bank back and insulted them, of course they aren't going to trust and lend any money to those who refused to refund and insulted the most powerful and least lenient bank in the world. The new power will have to restore credibility and show that it can be trusted to pay them back.
