Nature in balance

Recommended Posts

The resolution at the end is a state of balance between ice and fire.  Dany's journey follows our protagonists learning about history, cultures, and her family's past.  She will negotiate with Bran to end the long night and convince him to send his wights back to the other side of the wall.  Bran is learning as well but his immaturity is a hurdle.  The success of the negotiation will depend on Dany's skills at handling an immature and angry Bran.  A lot will be on Bran's shoulders.  Any hopes of reconciliation and peace are very small as long as Jon and Arya are alive.  Bran will need to put his bastard brother and big sister on a short leash for reconciliation to have a chance.

The problem with the climate is not that it changes but because it is unpredictable and inconsistent.  Nature is out of balance because the elements are fighting each other instead of learning to live with each other.  On the Starks, the first and second sons (Robb and Jon) were failures because they were lacking the discipline and the wisdom to manage their feelings.  The Targaryen sons (Rhaegar and Viserys) failed for largely the same reasons.  The third children, Daenerys and Bran, are the hopes for a balanced world.

boo

She has magical (autistic) powers.

Actually, I thought the show interpretation of the 'White Walkers' was a superb allegory of climate change. Of course, that wasn't really in the consciousness of more than a few extremists (like me) when GRRM wrote the first book in the '90s.

And if such negotiations fail?  Jon was already working to give the North to the wildlings rather than let the Boltons rule it in peace.  I would not hold out any hopes of the Starks letting old grudges go.  The best answer to the conflict of ice and fire is for each to go their own way.  Fire and the humans should migrate to Essos where there are places for them.  The Starks and the Others stay in Westeros and rule over the wights.

Fire and ice won't cancel each other.  They can separate and stay distant from one another.  People return to Essos and leave Westeros to the White Walkers.  Humans don't belong in Westeros.

I don't know what Bloodraven has in mind for Bran but the Starks betray everybody who isn't Starks.  Bran will do the same to Bloodraven.  Bran will have to be killed to have any hope of humans staying in Westeros but that would skew the balance.  I see separation as the better solution.
