Apparently Dana is very disappointed in the rumors that EliteXC offered a bonus to Seth if he stood up with Kimbo. Or in his own words :

"We've been busting our asses to show the world what a great sport MMA is and these scumbags from boxing come in and start fixing fights?"
Of course what he is talking about is that Elite XC offer a KO bonus. Yes, the same sort of thing as 'KO of the Night' and the finishing bonus during TUF fights. Petruzelli is a karate guy, he wasn;t going to get a submission bonus was he?

Load of hypocritical bullshit about a load of bullshit.

Horus, Rampage trains at Wolfslair now days btw :)

The important difference is that EliteXC doesn't give "KO of the night bonus" AFAIK. It was only offered to Petruzelli. With the UFC any fighter is eligible for any of the bonus's.

According to this article, EliteXC is claiming that they included a KO bonus in Petruzelli's contract, which they don't do in all contracts. They've contradicted themselves on whether or not they offered him a submission bonus as well, though Petruzelli says he doesn't recall them offering him one. Seems pretty obvious that, in chosing a karate specialist with no submissions on his record and offering him a KO bonus, they were doing everything in their power to give Kimbo a stand-up fight. I wouldn't be at all surprised to learn that the fighter Petruzelli was originally supposed to fight was a ground specialist, and so was not chosen as Kimbo's opponent.

First he throws out a reality show with a closet loaded with beer and weans ratings off of the drunken behavior that ensues, while pretending not to condone it. Then his comments on women's MMA. He's full of it. I don't like the guy and I don't like to listen to him. I love the UFC but that doesn't include not hating DW.

Some disappointing injuries going into UFC 89. Diego Sanchez is out of his fight with Thiago Alves, but Josh Koscheck has stepped in. I think that's a great replacement and should still be a good fight, but this is pretty short notice for Kos. I'm looking for Alves to prove that he's a threat to GSP, so hopefully he'll be properly challenged.

Also, I'm sorry that Goran Reljic will be out of his fight with Thales Leites. Reljic looks like a beast, and I think he's soon to become a real contender in the middleweight division. The guy looks as big as a Forrest Griffin! I heard that Drew McFedries will take his place. McFedries doesn't look good by MMAth: he lost to Kampmann, who lost to Marquardt, who lost to Leites (due to penalties).

Alves should be better than Kos on the feet. On the ground, Kos is going to have to get slick and innovative to be able to neutralize Alves' power.

The Spider to Retire

I know this rumor came up earlier and was squashed, but here is a video of Silva laying out his retirement plans in detail when his current contract expires. I am praying that it is all contract maneuvering because he still has at least 5 good years left in him. If not then I hope they get him the GSP fight here quickly. It would be a shame for him to retire before that happened.

I never heard the rumor get squashed. Silva seems to be showing every indication that he'll retire. It's too bad that he claims money doesn't interest him. There goes my hopes that he's holding out for more money. I'm a bit confused though, since he says he's got six fights left on his contract and he plans to retire at the end of next year. Does that mean he's going to fight five times in 2009? That's a pretty active schedule, especially for a guy heading into retirement. He's never fought more than three times in one year before. Maybe his contract will expire at the end of 2009 no matter how many times he fights.
Buddy of mine read something about Urijah Faber going to UFC. I don't follow the sport all that closely, just catch the free fights when I can. Is he joining? Has he already joined? Anyone else know something about this?
Zuffa owns both the UFC and the WEC, the promotion Faber's currently fighting in. Urijah would make a lot more money fighting in the UFC if he decides to jump up, but he'd have to do it at 155, which puts him at a big disadvantage, seeing as he's a natural 145er. Hell, he could probably make 135 with ease. I think he'd be competitive at LW, but he's not going to dominate that weight class like he is as a featherweight. He got brutally KO'd against Tyson Griffin, who's a very good fighter, but not ranked in the top 10 of most rankings. (But Urijah's defense, he's improved a lot since then). Typical case of the "big fish in a small pond or small fish in a big pond".

Personally, I'd love to see him in the UFC. Faber's one of the funnest fighters to watch, and while I don't think he'd beat BJ, it'd be a hugely entertaining fight between two of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world.

Little late on watching last week's TUF episode, but Junie and Shane are full-blown idiots and should've been booted from the show. DW set a terrible precedent by not kicking them out.

I'm embarrassed for what a jackass Shane made of himself, him being a local boy and coming out of BJ's camp. And Junie is a menace to society and a disgrace to MMA. He doesn't get a pass for having a rough childhood. Lots of people had rough childhoods. I had a rough childhood. Big deal. As far as I know, I don't go from raging asshole to weepy little bitch back to raging asshole in the span of 30 minutes.

UFC 90 is looking like a very good card. I think Koscheck beats Thiago. And I hate Koscheck.

I haven't seen much of Faber, but he struck me as a pretty big featherweight. I don't think he could make bantamweight. As far as jumping to the UFC, I think Zuffa will probably try to keep him in the WEC. He's the face of that organization, but would become just another contender in the UFC's deep LW division. On the other hand, they could probably get some play out of a superfight between Faber and Penn or some other UFC fighters. I would like to see how he fares, and superfights seem to be all the rage these days.

The rumor never did get squashed, and I've been saying this for a while and it's especially pertinent now that Filho will be joining the UFC, Silva will not stand in the way of his teammates. Filho is a MW and Machida is a LHW and I respect Silva's wishes to not block their time in the sun. I don't think that alot of Americans appreciate how seriously some of the camps in Brazil and Japan take not fighting their training partners.

He said himself that a permanent move, outside of selected superfights, is out of the question bc the LHW title in his words "belongs to Lyoto". I doubt that he feels differently about Filho, and with his current age and natural progression of body mass, a cut to WW is likely impractible to impossible for him at this point.

This is one of the weaker UFC cards in a long time. I suppose that is why it is free. The only two matches I am really interested in are the top two, but even those underwhelm me.

Bisping vs Leben - Bisping has the better technique and game. Plus he is quicker and his striking is very crisp. My prediction is Bisping wins in a 30-27 decision.

Jardine vs Vera - I never know what to make of Jardine. He seems to always do exactly the opposite of what is expected. I really like Vera and think he will manage the weight cut better. Vera 2nd Round TKO.
