Maester Yobjascz
Scott Glenn for Barristan Selmy. You need someone who looks old and craggy but is still fit, active, and capable of pulling off combat scenes. Barristan is much more of a combat junkie than Gandalf. Dornish Pasties
How about Dominic West as Stannis? Although he does look a bit too smiley in those pictures, I can just imagine McNulty grinding his teeth! kimba
Karl Urban for Rhaegar http://www.imdb.com/media/rm3993016320/nm0881631 Dude can definitely give some "crazy eyes". Since Rhaegar is only in a few flashbacks, I think Karl should also play Mad King Aerys II. They are father/son and with enough makeup, they could look different but definitely related. Plus I don't recall a scene where both Rhaegar and Aerys are in the same room. HBO used Garret Dillahunt for Francis Wolcott and Jack McCall so I know they aren't opposed to using the same actor for two characters.

Maester Yobjascz
What about Richard Attenborough as Grand Maester Pycelle? Aoede
Note: While hair/eye color and the like are relatively irrelevant - as someone's said, TV/movie magic! - height should still be pretty important. "Tall shoes" can only do so much. Littlefinger is little; I think that plays into the whole belittled-as-a-child, low-origins, initially-underdog thing that helped shape who he is. Mors
Angus McFayden....as...arghh..someone..must cast. Wouldn't be a bad Ned actually, but he's in his mid 40's now. Need not have have a lot of dialouge to do projects it seems, but he has an imposing presence. Or, Vinnie Jones. He has even played a mute. Not as much an actor as just being the bully-version of himself. Ran
A little outside the box, but I came across this photo and it made me think that with his hair off (or a bald cap), he could make a good Stannis Baratheon: Adrian Paul as Stannis Baratheon. He's pushing 50, but he looks to be aging quite well. And as a plus, he was one of the audio book readers of GRRM's Dreamsongs. Years ago, GRRM mentioned him as the sort of looks he had in mind for young Robert/Renly, and with the added cragginess and heft of the years, he could really fit Stannis (especially late CoK/ASoS Stannis, who looks ten years older). Maester Yobjascz
Philip Seymour Hoffman would be the *ultimate* Varys. You need someone who can become anyone, and Hoffman is it. I suppose the only hope is that he finds Varys an interesting character, because otherwise there'd be little hope of getting him. ETA: Actually, Jack Black would make a fun Varys too.

Auburn Dragon
I've seen quite a few suggestions for Sandor on the basis of who could play ugly... but I think there is more depth of character if the actor selected is someone who is known for their good looks. A lot of people have suggested Josh Holloway for Jaime because of his looks, but I think that really underestimates his acting ability. I would venture that Sawyer is one of the better dark and brooding with a secret good heart characters out there, and that the twist at the corner of his mouth when he is angry sends chills down the spine just the way we want the actor who plays Sandor to do. I think that his southern accent will be easier to lose for a raspy growl than for a courtly dialect, and that fans would flock to see one of the worlds most beautiful people play tortured and deformed. Also, he's 6'1 1/2, and probably knows how to ride a horse ;-)

This is thread is for posting suggestions and not for offering dissenting opinions on what others have posted.
