Xray the Enforcer

[ADWD SPOILERS] Jaime

Recommended Posts

It would be un-GRRM-esque for Brienne to lead Jaime into UnCat's trap. It would be too obvious- if Jaime is destined to die, I would expect it to happen in an unexpected manner.

I'm not sure how many men Jaime has, but perhaps the BwB is planning an attack on his camp, and maybe Brienne has come to give Jaime a headstart and get away from UnCat. I have a feeling there's more to come between Jaime and his family, particularly Cersei and their children, but also Tyrion. I can't see him dying at this stage.

Interesting development at the end for a chapter that was not hugely engaging otherwise. At least this means Jaime is definitly not heading to King's Landing for Cersei's trial. He's clearly in trouble, right into the hands of the BWB, who themselves know that Jaime is out for their heads.

Can we name these chapters 'Jaimie 1' or something? As not having a number after the name is a spoiler in itself - implying that there are no more Jaimie chapters.

At first I was so happy to see that Brienne was alive (truly, if you don't see heads coming off, they're not dead), but then I remembered her choice and that she's about to take Jaime off to be sentenced by UnCat.

Ugh...

I will keep faith that the twain will get out of it alive, even if I have to wait years for the next book. (I do understand why Brienne went with "Sword", how could she let Pod die for her?)

As for the rest...I quite enjoyed seeing Jaime settling those last loose ends from the war. He's changed for the better, without becoming a squishy softy. One reason why I want him to remain alive (with Brienne, his living conscience :P is to actually see him face Cersei (if she's still alive) and...telling Tommen and Myrcella he's not just their uncle. There's still things for him to do!

i would love to see Jaime telling Tommen and Myrcella the truth but it will only be possible if (when??)Cersei dies, she would never let that happen otherwise. and right now her death is far away from happening (she is gonna win in her trial, im sure).

but i do believe that the biggest thing Jaime still has to do is to kill Cersei somehow, i think he is the valonqar from the prophecy, not Tyrion.

I doubt Brienne will kill Jaime, or deliver him to unCat. I'm of the opinion that he is Cersei's valonqar, and him dying in the riverlands at the hands of unCat or Brienne would be immensely unsatisfying and frustrating (but then again, Martin is good at frustrating us, so you never know).

Other than those few paragraphs, I loved the rest of the chapter. One thing this book has been lacking so far for me was the Westeros we were used to. We've been stuck in waist-high snowdrifts and exotic lands across the Narrow Sea for so long that I actually felt a bit homesick for the central-southern areas of Westeros that we've seen so much of in the previous four novels - loved that we got some cool history of the Brackens and Blackwoods, two houses that I've actually been curious about for a while. Martin is a great world-builder, and the first 90% of this chapter showcased that brilliance to me.

Sucks that we're apparently going to have to wait another 3+ years for more Jaime. :worried:

Does Brienne "live" as we know it? I wonder. Also, Jaime will be meeting Catelyn soon. There better be another Jaime chapter.

As for the timeline, we've been past Feast For Crows for some time now. I don't remember which chapter but I know there was a Jon chapter where he figures Aemon should be nice and safe in Old Town by now. And that was several Jon chapters ago.

Love the Westeros chapters so far!!!! Hoping the Slavers Bay chapters start to pick up. Not too much more to go in the book.

But remember, Sam, Aemon and Gilly got stuck in Braavos for a long time. Jon didn't know about that.

Am I the only one who believes that the woman wasn't Brienne...and wasn't UnBrienne?

I don't think an impostor would have had the bandages. And I don't think an UnBrienne would have had bandages either--doesn't the kiss of fire/life partially repair the damage of wounds? (Not absolute proof either way, I know.)

Also, why would unCat resurrect someone she executed?

I kept expecting the negotiations to go poorly, because things so often do in Westeros. It's hard to trust a peaceful resolution to something. Still, it's cool to see the former 'ultimate warrior' navigate things as a diplomat.

Folks, I’d have preferred you hadn’t told me how many Jaime chapters there are left in the book. The rules for these threads are quite clear, are they not?

And, yes, Brienne lives, as we’ve argued for many years. Jaimes’s as good as dead. To me surprise, Brienne seems to not turn this into a suicide mission; I had expected both of them to die in this chapter.

Some good tree zombie porn, with a 1000 year old weirwood covered in ravens.

What does this mean: (Jaime:) “Understand this as well: I am not Ryman Frey.”

Even in the guide to the chapters, it's called 'Jaime' and not 'Jaimie 1.' And it doesn't mean it's his last chapter. Theon's been Reek, The Prince of Winterfell, and The Ghost of Winterfell so far. So there could be a chapter called 'The Golden Knight' or whatever.

I could be wrong, but that oath that Jaime swore a long time ago, end of ACoK or beginning of ASoS, was it something like "Bring back the Stark girls, or Brienne will kill you?" I don't remember, and I don't have the book with me.

If I was UnCat, I would totally torture Jaime for the rest of time, mainly because of what Bolton said at the RW(which I still remember), "Jaime Lannister sends his regards." All UnCat knows about the Jaime now is, that he didn't save her daughters, he took her home and gave it to Freys(nothing about her brother's unborn child), and his name was one of the last things her sone ever heard. Can;t wait for that confrontation.

I think it's pretty obvious Brienne decided to do as UnCat told her to save Pod and Hyle and is actually leading our favorite kingslayer into unCat's camp, but I don't think she will hang him right-away.

I really hope it's the real Brienne...I really love the banter and relationship between her and Jaime. Is it twisted of me to want them to "be together" by the end of all this? I mean...Brienne's a nice woman, not a looker, but nice. Jaime deserves that after the craziness that is Cersei.

Jaime! Feel like I have been waiting for this chapter for so long.

It is not heartening, what happens at the end of the POV. Things do not look good for him right now, but I agree with a lot of posters here, I cannot believe that Brienne would completely betray him. She will find a way to get around this - somehow??

Was wonderful to see him again though. And yes, he is very smooth. Loved his conversations and dealings with Bracken and Blackwood, and with Blackwood's son. Also loved him thinking of Tyrion and how he would have liked the kid. (And loved the fact that getting to Cersei was nowhere really on his list right now).

I really hope we see him again/hear something about what happens before this book ends.

Yesm she did swear fealty -- then Catelyn died.

Yes, she did join Jaime, which was the best she could do to still honor her word to Cat.

She wasn't given a chance to explain, as I recall.

No, she doesn't owe Cat anything. She has tried her very best to honor her oath to Cat, and get the Stark girls. I can't say I know what will happen, but imo there is no way she can screw Jaime over. It would go against everything we've learned of her character.

Yep, I agree.

I'm not sure how many men Jaime has, but perhaps the BwB is planning an attack on his camp, and maybe Brienne has come to give Jaime a headstart and get away from UnCat.

I hope that's the case, but given how merciless UnCat and her not-so-merry Brothers seemed in a AFFC, my guess is that they have kept poor Pod as a hostage to ensure Brienne's fealty; "Bring us Jaime's head, or we will send you Pod's".

The only reason Brienne would have said 'the word' in the first place would have been to save Pod (who is almost still a child, and did not deserve to be murdered); hence, if Pod's life is still in danger, she will have to bring Jaime back to the BwB.

Hence, honour & mercy demand that she kills Jaime to save Pod. However, honour also demands that she saves Jaime; she owes her life and more to him, and probably is in love with him too. Quite a quandary for our heroine, and she was never the brightest to begin with! :) Where is Tyrion when you need him, eh?

So she'll probably attempt to save both Jaime and Pod. The only question is whether she tells Jaime of all this to get his help, or attempts a daring Pod-Rescue on her own?

PS: first post here - yay!
