Horus Ex Machina
Tired of seeing the word "exotic" used around here to describe anyone with a drop of melanin in their skin tone. :lol:Anyway, as far as I can tell, it seems obvious that GRRM wanted Dorne to be notably different in appearance and culture than the run of the mill Westerosi. This makes sense when you consider the fact that Westeros is a continent and not an island with a long and diverse set of histories. I've always envisioned them as Southern Mediterranean or North African in appearance. I think that it makes sense to cast in such a manner that the difference in those cultural aspects is readily apparent rather than just glossed over.As I've looked around alot of sites it seems a number of people have brought up Israeli actor Oded Fehr as a possible Oberyn Martell. I like this idea, so long as he can assume an appropriate accent for the setting. I've never seen him in a period drama before.
Pod The Impaler
Alexander Siddig might make a good Oberyn, or Oded Fehr.Another choice I support for Oberyn is Nick Tarabay. He did a great job on Spatacus, acting as a wicked SOB, and could probably handle the physicality needed to battle The Mountain. (He's not a British or Irish actor, mind you, so accent-wise, who knows.)
Rouge et Bleu
My mental image of Oberyn Martell has been Dominic West since I read the books. I don't think I will ever move away from that despite whomever they end up casting.

Not sure that extreme physicality is needed for the Red Viper since he's more a finesse fighter as I've seen it.
Lamarlyn
I'd like to try out for the princess of Dornehttps://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/306011_10200157964049255_2088249032_n.jpg

lunadangelo
Casting the MartellsNot sure if this thread is about fantasy casting or real possibilities. So just to clarify, my selection is based on what appears to me to be Nina Golding’s guidelines and her casting choices thus far.Doran Martell:1. Alfred Molina, aged 59, born in London of Italian and Spanish parents. Absolutely brilliant actor!http://www.dailyactor.com/2011/09/alfred-molina-i-spent-my-life-seemingly-inhabiting-one-accent-or-another-that-wasnt-my-own/2. Georges Corraface, aged 60, born in France to Greek parents. Also very talented.http://www.corraface.net/photo-video/photosen.htmOberyn:1. James Purefoy, aged 48, born in England and whilst he seems to have no Mediterranean ancestry, I believe he certainly looks as though he could have. Moreover, he is muscular but lithe, just as I would imagine Oberyn.http://www.imdb.com/media/rm2742728192/nm07008562. Gilles Marini, aged 37, born in France to Greek and Italian parents. You may remember him from Brothers and sisters or Sex in the City. Again muscular but not bulky.http://www.imdb.com/media/rm4091977728/nm1694302Arianne:1. Antonia Thomas, aged 26, born in London to Jamaican & English parents. She is probably most known from Misfits and with her petite, curvy figure and feisty attitude would make IMO a great Arianne.http://www.publiceye.co.uk/wp-content/themes/plus27/images/headshots/Antonia-Thomas.jpg2.Lamarlyn (See above in the Thread). You certainly have the looks. Why don’t you put something on youtube as well to show off your acting talent ?https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/306011_10200157964049255_2088249032_n.jpgEllaria:1. Indira Varma, 39. A great actress and ideal for the role IMO.http://www.magweb.com/picts/actor/65584/indira_varma.jpg2. Lyndsey Marshal, 34. Remember her in Rome, when she seduces her various lovers. The best Cleopatra I have ever seen. Unfortunately she is probably a bit too old now but I think she would have made a great Arianne.http://img3.douban.com/img/celebrity/large/20961.jpgNymeria:Charlotte Riley, aged 31 is probably best known for her leading roles in Wuthering Heights and World Without End or to Tom Hardy fans, as his girlfriend.http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9lLLXPejOaI/Tvgt8xCmhfI/AAAAAAAAAAc/HOHgfq5EXw0/s1600/Headshot_Charlotte+Riley_photo+by_IanPhillips-McLaren_CARIS_ba_0.jpgObara:Zuleikha Robinson, 35. Yes, another Rome actress.http://images.buddytv.com/articles/rome/images/zuleikha-robinson.jpgTyene:Emma Rigby, 26. You may have seen her in Hollyoaks but she really showed off her acting skills in Prisoner’s Wives.. http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV5BMjE1MDQ2OTg4NV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMTIzMzI1Nw@@._V1._SY314_CR18,0,214,314_.jpgQuentyn:Robert Gilbert, 25. As seen in Gulliver’s Travels. Really good young actor.http://www.vivacity-peterborough.com/files/images/pageimage/1215.7d7609db/800x600.fitdown.jpgSarella / The Sphinx:Karla Crome, 23. As seen in Misfits and Lightfields.http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/bb404/whoopeeyoo/karla_zpsb2d24e20.jpg
Horus Ex Machina
...yeah, we're not getting Alfred Molina... :cool4:Lemme expound on that before I'm misunderstood. It's not that he's above it per se,... just above the roles that are available to him. This guy's been in Spiderman and will demand at least Sean Bean-type money to get him here. I could be wrong, it just doesn't feel like a big enough role for him.

I think this guy would do nicely. http://www.dizimizi.com/resimler/796000/bulent-inal-36.jpg

Sun
Why do people insist on whitewashing the one prominent family of colour in Westeros? I can't understand it... James Purefoy for the Red Viper? Really?!

PatrickStormborn
People might be thinking about how awesome he'd be in the role as opposed to his appearance, which can easily be altered to more fit the book description. There are plenty of actors of colour out there who are more than capable of handling the role. Unfortunately the majority of roles are given to white men, so they aren't given an equal chance. This should not be the case with the Dornish. This should not be the case with the Dornish. Why wouldn't the majority of the roles be given to whites, Westeros is basically a white place, it makes sense. In "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" the cast is made up of Asians which kinda makes sense since the story takes place in China. I'm all for open competition with roles, if a 'person of color' beats out James Purefoy or whomever then I'm fine with them being cast.

BECAUSE DORNE IS NOT A WHITE PLACE.THIS is what I and many others have been trying to say. Dorne, pre-Rhoynar, would probably be comprised of skintones similar to the Mediterranean. But post-Rhoynar there are two new Dornishmen: salty and sandy, neither of which are white in any way.Stop with the racism.
