[BOOK SPOILERS] Meera vs. Osha

Do we know that Osha and Rickon are even splitting up this season?

I agree they've wasted the screen time w/Bran, we could have had the fire and ice oath when they met instead of a kind of silly knife at Osha's throat intro, we could have had some chatting about their father, as long as Bran is going to dream, why not give his dreams some meaning and interest...geeze, they could even have given Sean Bean a guest shot in a dream sequence, why not, it would certainly have been more interesting than skinning rabbits and an epileptic green dream that nobody saw on screen.

Unless Davos' mission after Rickon turns out to be meaningless I think we can safely say that Osha and Rickon will be leaving for Skagos.

I've been really disappointed with how Bran has been handled so far. It's not just that he doesn't have much material, that's not really D+D's fault, it's that his story is so jerky and disjointed. He's not in the premiere, then he has quite a lot of stuff in E2, then suddenly he's just disappearing every other episode and all of his scenes are the same mystical dream milarky every time. A good seven episode arc for Bran would have been:

  • E1: Absent.
  • E2: Osha thinks they're being followed. Bran sees Jojen in a green dream.
  • E3: Meeting Jojen and Meera and allying with them.
  • E4: Exposition on warging.
  • E5: Absent.
  • E6: Knight of the Laughing Tree story.
  • E7: Queenscrown
  • E8: Absent
  • E9: Osha and Rickon part from the main group.
  • E10: Bran and the Reeds reach the Dreadfort and meet Sam.

Instead we've so far had IIRC.

  • E1: Absent
  • E2: Dreams about then meets Jojen and Meera, exposition on warging.
  • E3: Absent
  • E4: Has a dream.
  • E5: Doesn't appear
  • E6: Jojen has a dream. Cat fighting.

And that's it over half way through the season. No meaningful development in 4 episodes. There's fortunately still time to redeem the second half of the story. Being chased by Ramsay's men (or hopefully Ramay himself) is going to be rather faux-dramatic for us who know that nothing will come of it, but hopefully can be written well. We can have a heartfelt parting scene for Osha and Rickon, a hopefully action-packed Queenscrown and a chilling Nightfort in episode 10.

It's Nightfort :drunk:. Really good post though

Maybe, but they could keep them together for another season or more before they split up, if they split up this season then there is nothing for Osha to do at all for the next two seasons unless they start making up a Skaagos storyline.

you are exactly right, it doesn't cost money or much time to simply have Meera telling Bran a story! a rather important story that fan all over the world have really been looking forward to..

I think they will split this season, also in a preview (which looks a lot like Sam meeting them at the Nightfort) there is no Osha and Rickon, so either they were sleeping some where else away from the fire or they had already split. I kinda figured they would just ditch the two for a couple of seasons, it would add to the mystery and suspense of where they are and whats happened to them, also young children are hard to film with it would made sense IMO if Rickon and Osha were left out for a while

This all sounds fine, but the Knight of the Laughing tree would be kind of a pointless addition, because 1) The Rhaegar/Lyanna story has barely been touched upon, and if the tower of Joy was cut, why would this be in? 2) Non - Book readers are having enough trouble with current story lines without a lengthy story about characters we haven't met, that may be a nice story, but actually doesn't advance the plot much

Fair enough, though I still say it should be in at some point even if it's in a couple seasons time. You could easily switch that out for Ramsay hunting the Bran clan for an episode or 2 to add a bit more suspense.

hmm maybe the whole reason they are bringing this Osha and Meera conflicting issue in, instead of giving us the telling of histories and tales, is because they are going to have quite a lot of time with just the Reeds and Bran traveling, which would be a fine time to bring up stories. while they still have Osha maybe they are just trying to fill in some extra little dramas and give us a bit of a chuckle.

EDIT: clearly Hodor will be with them too, but he's not much for conversation ^_^
