Zehde
Hello community, is there any reason named in the novels, why Ghost ist silent? Is he unable to make sounds or does he just not want to? Is there any connection to Jon and his emotions or fate? The direwolves share the fate and emotions of their masters, obviousely.Greywind is dead, Nymeria is lost, Shaggydog is angry, Lady was sent to the "butchers block" by Eddard Stark - all fates that the children shared.Ghost is white like ice & snow and fits perfect to Jon and his life beyond the Wall. But what about the silence. Does it also "mean" something?
Lord Lannister
I always assumed it was just the Stark warg connection. Each of the direwolves takes on their owners personalities in some form. Lady was pretty tame, Ghost quiet, Shaggy wild and so on.
H.P.
I find it unlikely that he chooses not to make sounds. Why would an animal choose to be silent, all the way from infancy?
Purity
Ghost is not quiet; he's a mute. Different things. I'm also curious about why he is a mute though.
Victarion Chainbreaker
George is waiting for an especially meaningful moment for Ghost to howl.

David Selig
The special snowflake has to have a special direwolf.
The Wolfswood
Maybe it is symbolic of Jon Snow not being able to speak out about his parentage (in his case because he doesn't know.) It is Ghost's version of "You know nothing, Jon Snow".
Maid So Fair
Just like Jon, he can't express who he truly is.

Kienn
Just one of the many parallels between Jon and Robb.
WeaselPie
Open-eyed at birth. Albino. Mute. Ghost is not a "normal" direwolf and IMO the relationship between Ghost and Jon is not a normal direwolf/First Man Northerner Stark relationship. GRRM chose to set Ghost apart for all these reasons, not me. Has to mean something.
