Season 5 Casting, News and Speculation V13 [show spoilers, book spoilers past OP]

Damn I just found the most negative poster on here in one of the other threads and yet they really don't have that good of an argument. Yes D&D have altered storylines, but that's not the reason they caught up to the books. When the series first aired, there were 5 books out. It's been four years and GRRM hasn't released another, so you can't really blame them. If he hadn't planned the 5 year gap when writing AFFC and ADWD, this really wouldn't have happened. I've never seen so much negativity from a fan base. Yeah there are decisions that I don't agree with, but it doesn't mean the entire series is ruined. There are still strong elements, a strong cast, and if it really was so degrading, it would have been cancelled by now. Why would HBO decide to keep increasing the budget, D&D are obviously doing something right.

IGN is famous for making April fools jokes right before April 1st, then telling everybody ON april fools it was a joke.

There's a saying that goes for us gamers in regards to them overall, its "You can't spell Ignorant without IGN"....they don't have the best reputation.

Cant believe that link actually has sources and reports for news sites, it CAN'T be true, just can't be. Ill actually stick by my don't believe IGN motto until April 1st.

Not sure what this is about, my friend. This seems to be coming out of nowhere. What's going on?

It was reported on plenty of other sites before IGN. I woul d hope something as weird as that is a joke, but probably not.

BTW folks, here's GrrM on people calling some of the writing on the show fan-fiction. http://grrm.livejournal.com/414772.html?thread=20508980#t20508980

I'm going to bookmark this and annoyingly link it in responses to anyone who says that from now on.

he forgot to add the part that its not fanfic if it bring him $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

but seriously you should let it go, of course people know its not actual fanfiction. but they're going to call it that in their bitterness when the character and plot diverges in a way thats completely off from the books.

"I don't think you quite grasp what 'fan fiction' is or why I object to it. GAME OF THRONES is a licensed adaptation.". George R.R. Martin.

That link is a wonderful answer to all the "Fan Fiction" whines...

Whether something is "fan fiction" is not nearly as interesting to as whether something is bad fiction. Some of the stuff D&D come up with are just bad, fanfiction or not.

Thank you, GRRM.

I'd swear some of those people commenting have absolutely no filter.

Edit: Lol this is what it boils down to: "RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE THEY GONNA SPOIL THE ENDING!" and "THEIR CHANGING EVERYTHING AND NOW ITS FANFICTION!"

Lol, this. Every negative post or comment I see basically involves "fan-fiction" or "they're destroying the books". It's really gotten out of hand. I mean don't people want to be surprised in some cases and not always know what's coming. I find it more exciting that way. At this point they are two separate things, you can still enjoy both. Enjoy the TV series for what it is and if you want more in-depth details and get inside the heads of characters and see what they are really thinking, then wait for the books. Sometimes that is difficult to translate to screen. It will be interesting to see how Season 5 compares to the source material, but it's an adaptation, not a replication.

For some posters it seems to have devolved into nothing but, "hate-watching." I don't understand the phenomena myself. If a show/insert anything I do to relax makes me miserable I stop doing it. The books are the books, the show is the show.

It's an issue of legitimacy. And the fact that he gets paid doesn't make his sticking up for the show suspect; that's a necessary component of it being licensed.

And if people's concerns about the adaptation are that GrrM's words be kept to or respected, well...those are GrrM's words too.

Thats a Swan not a Duck. I would bet that it means he is taking Balon Swann's place and going to Dorne to rescue Myrcella

It's definitely a duck: http://www.birdo.com.au/uploads/4/3/9/1/4391366/6873820_orig.jpg

And I'm hesitant to call it a troll. His total lack of enthusiasm throughout the video sort of suggested that somebody put him up to holding that bird. The whole thing seems like a very deliberate hint.

Well, if it was anything hinting at Rolly Duckfield, I think we would have known about it, some sort of leak by Sue on WOTW. She has yet to even suggest anything from Aegon or whatever, and the seasons about to start.

They could do something else with the ducks, though spoiling for bookreaders seems a weird instance, since the first thing a bookreader thinks about Ducks is definitely Rolly Duckfield in ADWD at least. Do ducks do anything in ADWD of significance? I dont remember anything, what the hell kind of spoiler is that? Has to be something.....

I doubt D&D were just hiding an Aegon storyline out of nowhere ala Nights King last season. Would be too much characters(Rolly, Septa Lemore, etc) all of them just keeping silent? Nah. One of them would post something somewhere about being in Thrones.
