Choose your seven.

Recommended Posts

Let's you're King on the IT, you can pick seven Kingsguard Knights from across Westerosi history to be your Kingsguard, who do you pick? My list is:

Lord Commander Prince Aemon the Dragonknight

Ser Arthur Dayne

Ser Gerold Hightower

Ser Oswell Whent

Ser Barriston Selmy

Ser Balon Swann

Ser Loras Tyrell

I think it's a solid list, the first six are all strong fighters, all battle tested and hardened, all beyond loyal to their king and willing to gladly die for him. The seventh is brash and young and of questionable loyalty but he brings the support of a major house and sometimes you need a fiery fighter, I imagine him as the guy I'd send around to get things done rather than being mostly a bodyguard. I considered Jamie Lannister but we all know what happened to the guy who made him a Kingsguard.

Picking from across Westeros history would be too difficult for me, so I'm just going to pick from the time Aerys' rule started and on.

Lord Commander - Gerold Hightower

Arthur Dayne

Barristan Selmy

Garlan Tyrell

Sandor Clegane

Jaime Lannister

Brienne of Tarth

Mainly picked on combat skills, in combination with a balance in personalities.

Gotta give credit to the people picking JL, you're braver than I am.

He did the country a great service by disposing of a worthless king, albeit without noble motivations. I honestly kinda blame the other knights of the kingsguard for standing by while Aerys burned people alive. I don't think Jaime would have killed a good and just king as easily.

If I had been a brave kingsguard knight under Aerys, I might have considered murdering him one sneaky way or another, thereby ensuring the realm gets a competent king in Rhaegar.

Aemon the Dragonknight

Barristan the Bold

Arthur Dayne

Garlan Tyrell

Dameon Blackfyre

Duncan the Tall

Gerold Hightower

And if non knights were allowed, I would put Cregan Stark in for Garlan.

I thought the point was to choose 7 KINGSGUARD knights from the history of Westeros. That's what would disqualify Cregan, he was never a member. Though if he was allowed he would be my LC.
