My 2017 release date estimate too optimistic?

When Book 5 was published in 2011, It was about 5 years and some extra months after the release of book 4. And book 4 took slightly less time after book 3 but roughly the same.

So with this in mind combined with the knowledge of how much there is to resolve in the books at this point, I just thought to assume July 12th 2017 for the release date of Winds of Winter which is exactly 6 years since the release of book 5. I do this so I'm not doomed to disappointment with an earlier estimate being wrong. If it comes out sooner than my estimate, I will be pleasantly surprised.

However, I'm hearing some people on the Internet are saying tWoW could be released in 2018! So even with giving it the maximum time, I'm still going to be disappointed. I forgot the source. Sorry about that.

But is anyone in the forum thinking 2018 as the release date for book 5? Oh and don't give me your earlier estimates because I won't bet with you on them.

No, GRRM is determined to get it out before season 6.

The books release dates where (may be wrong cause this is from Wikipedia) 1996 (AGoT), 1998 (ACoK), 2000 (ASoS), 2005 (AFFC) and 2011 (ADwD).

The ones that took forever to come out where AFFC and ADWD. Why? Cause when he was writing a feast he was writing it as if a 5 year gap happened, but it was too hard to write in all the flashbacks so he scraped it and started writing again.

A dance took 6 years because he was now working on the show and was taking 2 years off to write the world book.

This may have come from a wrong source so sorry if I'm wrong, but he has very good reasons for taking a while to release his books.

Winds will be out early next year. I'm willing to bet my life on it.

That would no doubt make you a Darwin Award nominee.

Never underestimate those, man. They know their shit.

But seriously, do we have any new data to make predictions, or are we gonna just idly speculate?

I would never make a bet like that. That might be the funniest Darwin Award ever.

Yes, GRRM might want to have the book out before Season 6. He mayhaps even wanted to publish it before Season 5. And I know for a fact that he wanted to publish "Dance" in 2006, one year after "Feast", because that he actually wrote down and printed. What men want does not matter.

Your life is too precious to bet on that.

Eh, I'm really done agonizing over the release date of Winds. When it comes out, I'll buy it and read it, but beyond that I'm really not worried about it. Whatever else we know we'll have an ending(maybe not the ending) in two years with the show and whatever else you want to say about tv/movie adaptations they do deliver as promised.

Going to repeat Arya's famous line "I'm not a boy"

Your life is too precious to bet on that.

For all you know I may be better of dead, but this is really sweet.

But that's how confident I am. GRRM has already hinted he's close to finishing it.

2016 looks pretty realistic to me, i don't really get the people worried about GRRM dying before finishing the series, this is the 21th century, people dying before the age of 80 isn't reliable as it used to be :P

Winds will be out early next year. I'm willing to bet my life on it.

Please don't, you're too young(or are you?).

Oh this is my first post... I also think it will be out in 2016!

Maybe it's just my foolish hopes but I get the feeling that he wants it out before the next season because it would seriously suck to have the show spoil it. Though in the end I don't think he can get out book 7 before the show ends :crying:

ADwD took ages because of the re-write. There's little reason for a similar thing to happen this time.

I'd say 2016 is a good bet for TWoW. Seeing as the world book is done and released and GRRM hasn't had too much involvement in the show the last few years i'd say that the momentum of a new book should hopefully make writing ADoS easier.

I'd expect the final book to be written much quicker.
