Seaworth'sShipmate
I think it is high time Steelshanks Walton receive an appreciation thread of his own, as he is a highly underrated character. Although he is in the service of house Bolton, he still manages to be a relativley decent human being. It was he after all, who saved Jaime and Brienne from becoming bear food. If not for the timely intervention of he and his crossbowmen, there would be no Jaime or Brienne for fans to admire/speculate over. Also: "Steelshanks." Pretty cool last name no? Well, although for some reason I did take a liking to him, I think his motivation for saving Jaimie and Brienne was more for fear of reprisal from Roose. Definitely can't argue that his name is pretty bad ass though.
Lady Blackmont
I like him.A rapist, but most all of the men in Westerosi practice rape during war. I can't really fault him for following the culture.
Wolf's Bane
Wow! Thanks a lot for all the LOVE, Lord Arryn. I feel really appreciated now. I've been on this website for over a year and this is the first time I got any love. It's better late than never guys. Here's me, returning your love. I love you all, even the ones who don't like my girl, Dany. Fire and Blood! Long Live the Dragon!
Seaworth'sShipmate
Well, although for some reason I did take a liking to him, I think his motivation for saving Jaimie and Brienne was more for fear of reprisal from Roose. Definitely can't argue that his name is pretty bad ass though. Perhaps, but are his motivations really that important as opposed to his actions and their results? He wasn't doing it to be a saint certainly, but regardless of motives, Jaime and Brienne would be dead without him. They absolutely owe him their lives, yet never think fondly of him. Ser Arthur Hightower
Strange to think that despite being Bolton's most trusted soldiers he may have never even killed anyone.

It explains why Roose doesn't care about losing an heir by Walda- because he never lost Domeric. It explains why he doesn't care that Ramsay won't be able to lead the North- because he has the loveable Steelshanks Bolton waiting in the wings. It explains everything. Ser Arthur Hightower
We have not seen him kill anyone, but that doesn't mean that he has never killed anyone. We can be relatively sure he never saw real battle in TWot5K: Bolton men made up the reserve on the Green Fork, he seems to be kept near Bolton most of the time, he isn't at the Red Wedding. There is no reference to Bolton (nor Umber or Karstark) men in the Greyjoy Rebellion, he may well not be old enough to have fought in Robert's Rebellion, even if he was there he might not have seen much fighting, Bolton clearly doesn't like to be in the thick of things. Of course there's every chance he has acted as an executioner for his lord or killed outlaws/brigands, but I'm doubtful he has killed anyone in battle. AerionBrightflameII
He didn't seem that great. All of his positive decisions were probably out of seeing what happens to people who displease Roose more than any tender heart.
