[no spoilers] Scoring

Recommended Posts

Just rewatched "A Man Without Honor." Leaving aside discussion of the Theon/Winterfell (which I think is being done perfectly). Whoever scored this season needs to win the Emmy. The music is perfect- especially the Theon theme. Captures the sense of the dread/tension superbly.

If there is one thing this show has not gotten enough praise for it is Ramin Djawadi’s score.

I am not sure if there is an Emmy for TV series music, but Djawadi should be given about five!

The final scene's scoring was tremendous. They are doing especially well with Theon this season. I'm glad to see as his storyline seemed like one from the books that could have been completely taken out without affecting the "overall" story.

Theon's storyline is by far my favorite from the books (Jamie a close second)

I saw the title of this post, and thought it was going to be about Jon & Ygritte...

heh, I thought of that, after I posted this. I didn't mean for the double entendre, but there you go.

Yeah, the music starts light as Theon delivers his "You should have listened to me; I mean what I say" speech. Picks up in intensity when Leuwin is brought out, and accents his horrified scream in a very visceral way. The music just captures the feel of the scene, and the character, so well.

I know there's been a good deal of criticism about this season of the show, particularly as it relates to changes made for the adaptation. Let me just say that I'm willing to put up with a good deal of change to see story lines like Theon's brought to such life. The quality of the music is indicative of the quality of the overall production, and reassures me that the producer's know what they're doing.

Here's hoping seasons 3 and beyond, we get equally compelling music for:

Jamie and Brienne ('Why did you come back?" "I dreamt of you."); Davos' trip to the North ("The North remembers, Lord Seaworth,"); Theon, post-breaking ("I wanted to be one of them."); and importantly UnCat and the Brotherhood as they hang their way through Walder Frey's get.

Will we hear the Bear and Maiden Fair and the Rains of Castamere? I hope.

Har!

Think Djawadi could fix those?

Of course main base is in Ireland there are an uncountable number of Irish musicians who could fix those.

I completely agree about the quality of the music. It's been brilliant. Season 1 was fine but season 2 has been a big improvement. The music used over the end credits has been perfect everytime (especially this week). And I'm still enjoying Robb's King of North theme.

I always read The Bear and Maiden Fair with a somewhat annoying self-made melody, so I hope they'll fix it for me.

And I agree: Djawadi's score is excellent.

I do believe there is an Emmy for music scoring so I think GOT should throw their hat into that. If you haven't picked up the CD of the music from the first season, you should totally get it. I love listening to it because you can pick up on which sounds go with which areas and how much it adds to the ambience of the scene. And it's just lovely music especially the usage of cellos in a lot of songs. I really hope they put out a soundtrack for season 2. :cool4:

I would love to hear the Wildlings theme, sounded really intriguing, with shamanic drums. Or my imagination adds more than really is there ;) (It appears when Ygritte's company shows up.)

And thank you guys for links to fannish songs interpretations! I've found more, here are:

  • Rains of Castamere once again - I would love to hear more of his voice than music:

  • and one I like best of all so far - The Dornishman's Wife:
