I get that (1) you can be a bad person and still be making a brave, important stand and (2) Navalny was an important symbolic presence against Putin both in Russia and beyond so I understand the outpouring over his death, but I wish we wouldn't fall over ourselves to lionise a racist Russian nationalist whose main claim to morality was that maybe he wouldn't actually have invaded Ukraine (but he still used 'we are one nation' rhetoric back in the day about Ukraine and Belarus).

Watch, Watched, Watching: Watching Severance and working for Lumon

Watched Sisu. It's a silly, violent movie made with a surprising amount of... polish is the wrong word, but craft. A dumb movie smartly made (though not particularly smartly written). Particularly impressed by the sound design for some reason. As other said in previous threads, it also bears no relation to John Wick despite using its name in the trailers- way more inspired by old-school, pulpy schlocky, action movies. Though I do think that him being nicknamed after a Russian folkloric figure is not a coincidence (and at least in this film they understood what the name meant). -

I haven't seen King Richard and probably never will tbh, but Will Smith playing a weirdo obsessive dad who's too intent on his kids being famous is way too on the nose. -
Yeah, that's fair. Although I think it's fair to say that they are different templates to HoD and many of the stories it inspires, too.

Always amused me that RED came out in the same year as the A-Team, Expendables, and The Losers, with all 4 having very similar premises (Expendables being a bit different in delivery of course). Shame The Losers got a bit lost in the churn of all that, fun film with an insanely cool cast. -

That's why Ip Man is an average movie. -
They absolutely were, that's why Samuel Jackson was in it and RDJ was in the Hulk movie. Also there was a change of CEO shortly after Marvel Studios was founded (after Iron Man and Hulk were started but before they came out) supposedly partly because Avi Arad didn't believe in that plan. That said, in skimming wikipedia for the dates and details. Favreau specifically said he didn't want to cast a big star and that the superhero would carry the movie commercially, not the actor - so it is a later-added myth that RDJ was a risk in that sense.

Honestly my biggest issue with Haaland is that a striker like him should be constantly on the shoulder of the defenders, making little runs and dragging the defenders about, and he doesn't seem to do that so much. Which is weird because I swear at Dortmund he used to. But it's almost like he's waiting for the chance to make the perfect run rather than creating the opening for it. -

You can't expect him to score 36 times every season, no, but he's only scored in one of his last six games. For now that's fine, everyone has a slump in form, but he doesn't offer enough outside the box for that to become a pattern so he needs to hope that a slump in form is all it is and not teams somewhat working the patterns out. -

That's true if you're using only the strictly literal interpretation, but not it you're using the common, semi-metaphorical, usage where a character might literally be a character but is in the story only to in some way move the plot along and therefore functions more like a plot device than a person. And, flipside, a non-sentient object (or place) can't really be a character but can feel like one if the actual people react emotionally to it. Also quite a common usage. -
I'm not sure how that contradicts him being pushed as a rising star for years before his fuckups got too much?

The ring is more of a character than Isildur in the movies. There, I said it. -
Given how much he likes vehicular carnage it shouldn't really be a surprise that Nolan loves the FF movies.

Palace have had a real issue with renewing player contracts. They lost like 10 senior squad players on a free in 2021 and something similar happened last summer, including with Zaha who they'd been holding out for a big transfer fee on for like half a decade. Most of them weren't consistent starters by the time they left, but some of them were, and all of them needed to be replaced without having brought money in to do so. So there's been a churn of squad players while there's no money for new stars. It's not getting any better- there's a bunch out of contract this summer and while most of them aren't playing much, two of them are Hughes and Ward, both of whom play regularly. -
As far as I can tell RDJ had been a guy Hollywood had been pushing towards stardom since like the 80s or early 90s. He just kept getting in his own way. Sure, picking him right then was a gamble because he was only a few years removed from a series of very public crises, but he didn't come out of nowhere or anything.

'Lioness' and 'Suffragette' are both bad names because they just both sound really stupid to say. 'Gotta take the Lioness three stops' 'Running to catch the Suffragette' yeah okay. Should have called it the Pankhurst line if honouring suffragettes was what they were about. 'Weaver' runs into the same issue technically but it doesn't sound quite as dumb. Windrush and Mildmay are good though. Liberty is just the most boring name they could have possibly chosen.

Within three months at Madrid he's going to be throwing a hissy because he has to play up front and not on the left.
