  1. On Liverpool's managerial change, my understanding is that Klopp isn't going to another team, he's taking some time off, though not quite retiring. So why isn't Pepijn Lijnders or whomever from his staff is qualified considered for the job? They know the team and Klopp's system.
  2. I wonder how many people were able to wrap their head around the sophon concept.
  3. I think my other problem with the Wallfacers is that for now we don't know how their ideas are then supposed to be imparted. Or are they? Since the San-Ti should technically become a real problem only in 400 years, who succeeds the current Wallfacers? Or are they hoping to develop the cryogenics tech quickly enough to periodically freeze them as Wade is planning for himself? I would have thought that maybe people would have taken steps towards trying to develop telepathy technology. I don't see how just 3 individuals will be good enough to prepare humanity for the war. But maybe my skepticism comes from my views about the world and maybe the author's are different.
  4. Exactly, we're mostly told Saul is really smart, not shown. If Jin had been picked, I would have said OK. We get to see her solve problems.
  5. I guess no one is watching the final season of Discovery? I hadn't realized that it started already with 2 episodes. I watched the first. So they decided to at least wrap the galaxy-ending McGuffin in a treasure hunt adventure this time around. It might be fun. And they tied it to a plot from TNG
  6. I get that but my issue that the audience should be allowed to speculate, but his character is too thin to do that.
  7. Finished it. It was enjoyable. The part at the end with Saul was confusing and felt like it could easily be lazy writing as we've seen nothing of the character up to the moment at the UN to suggest he really was "the one". (of three) Also, the way they showed the nanofiber sail and nuclear explosions propelling was confusing. I would have assumed the probe to be in front of the sail, not behind it, so it wouldn't get directly radiated. Oh, and episode 5 was nuts.
  8. And have a reason for the mission abort for the rest of the crew but which then leaves Watney still capable of managing the base by himself.
  9. I don't remember if there was an editorial note in the book or just an interview, but Andy Weir acknowledged the winds part, that he exaggerated their power. But that's the only way he came up with to establish the premise and kickstart the story. This is my least favorite part in the movie and definitely not like in the book. I understand that the scene where Glover explains his idea to the managers of NASA with staplers and pens is for the benefit of a general audience, but I found it extremely cringe.
  10. Last weekend he officiated City's match, now United's. hmm
  11. https://www.cnn.com/2024/04/06/americas/ecuador-vice-president-arrest-mexico-embassy-diplomatic-tensions-intl-hnk/index.html
  12. https://www.westeros.org/News/Entry/Meet_Dunk_and_Egg_Casting_Announced_for_A_KNIGHT_OF_THE_SEVEN_KINGDOMS Promising. I like the casting just based on this info.
  13. I'm not saying it can't but it feels like the same pattern of simplification that they followed for GoT. And the show's title reads a bit silly to me without the "the".
  14. Two episodes in and I think it's interesting and intriguing. But I just realized that D&D did again with the title. Why? Too long to write "the" in the title? It might seem a minor change, but it makes me wary again. Of course, I haven't read the book so I don't particularly have a reason to be annoyed.
  15. Chelsea-ManU April 2024. A classic... of luck and clumsiness. I don't really feel like laughing.
  16. Characterization, relationships, and lore expositions have been very well done in this show. I'm not sure that it can be done any more than what they did without risking to turn the show into a slog. And I'm not sure how you lose the richness and depth of the story when you expand the viewpoints instead of focusing on one. Maybe you lose the themes of mystery and discovery, though.
  17. So is this show any good? I just watched the intro with the Cultural Revolution scene, and that is how far I got into the book, too. I still haven't forgiven D&D for how they treated GoT.
  18. He, at the end of last season I thought of which the teams that were still in the PL were likely candidates for relegation based on their performance and Chelsea was coming to mind among a few others, except I knew they couldn't fall because of their budget and pool of raw talent they acquired with that money. This season is proving me right. There is enough raw talent in the team for them to keep afloat, because otherwise as a team they might be relegation fodder. And there is nothing happening this season to give me hope for the next season. And if they get penalized with points deductions they might be serious trouble.
  19. By the way I'm not sure how to feel about this thread title. But my life philosophy leans towards the it's better to laugh than cry mentality.
  20. Curious to see Villa can repeat their performance against City. That might just be the proverbial nail in the coffin for City winning this year again.
  21. Ha, when I did my playthrough I had no idea Minthara was a possible companion. And I had stayed away from Youtube and other internet sources to not be spoiled on the story, so only after I found out, though I was never going to sacrifice the tieflings to get here, and at the time there was only one twisted way to get here and not have to kill off the tieflings.
