  1. @Curled Finger, since you bring up the awesome women of Bear Island, I thought I’d leave this here… ADwD, The King’s Prize "Do you have brothers?" Asha asked her keeper. "Sisters," Alysane Mormont replied, gruff as ever. "Five, we were. All girls. Lyanna is back on Bear Island. Lyra and Jory are with our mother. Dacey was murdered." "The Red Wedding." A stab at me, Asha thought, but let it be. "You are wed." "No. My children were fathered by a bear." Alysane smiled. Her teeth were crooked, but there was something ingratiating about that smile. "Mormont women are skinchangers. We turn into bears and find mates in the woods. Everyone knows." Asha smiled back. "Mormont women are all fighters too."
  2. @Corvo the Crow, no snark but I’m sticking to what I said up thread in this case: IMHO this is one of those things where readers think of a desired or “cool” outcome, then work backwards to try to prove it
  3. I don’t believe she is… in fact, I very much doubt she is. There are no clues or hints whatsoever to support it. IMHO this is one of those things where readers think of a desired or “cool” outcome, then work backwards to try to prove it.
  4. “Red eyes, Jon realized, but not like Melisandre’s. He had a weirwood’s eyes. Red eyes, red mouth, white fur. Blood and bone, like a heart tree. He belongs to the old gods, this one. And he alone of all the direwolves was white. Six pups they’d found in the late summer snows, him and Robb; five that were grey and black and brown, for the five Starks, and one white, as white as Snow.” Well, more importantly than being a Targ bastard, Bloodraven is a Blackwood bastard.
  5. I think it’s b/c it’s all so boring! ps: gimme a trashy slasher every day of the week and twice on sundays!
  6. So, we'd be better off debating chatGPT than some readers...
  7. You mean Brienne “killing” LSH? I’m not sure it comes to that… One issue here is the timing. Because I could even see Brienne giving LSH the gift of mercy, but I don’t see this happening before the Red Wedding 2.0 and especially before she meets either Sansa or Arya. I have also believed for a long time that Jaime may end up leading the BwB. But again, the timing is an issue, since I don’t see him participating in the upcoming and improved wedding massacre. So maybe Brienne could have taken Jaime somewhere else and not to meet LSH - then they hide somewhere while Red Wedding 2.0 happens, LSH meets one of her daughters or hears from Bran via weirnet, gets the gift of mercy somehow, and then Brienne and Jaime meet with the BwB again. But none of that’s happening since Pod and Hunt are probably still captives of the BwB and Brienne must know that if she doesn’t come back both are as good as dead.
  8. I know this might just be wishful thinking, but I think that if/when Brienne sees herself in this situation she’ll do the ‘right’ thing and stand up for Jaime. Because she knows that he has been trying to fulfill his promise to Cat through her, but also b/c she’ll recognise that LSH is not Cat, she’s not the woman she swore an oath to.
  9. No, it isn’t. Huh? I don’t have a problem w/ Coldhands, Coldhands is awesome. And I don’t have a problem w/ LSH. Just wanted to clarify this.
  10. She may have wanted to kill Jon, despite there being no evidence for that. Disliking someone and wanting to kill them is not the same thing. And again, wanting to kill someone and actually killing them is not, once more, the same thing, She’s not a living breathing human being, she’s a reanimated rotting corpse. Yes, she has some level of discernment, so she’s a rotting corpse with discernment and a mission, that doesn’t mean she’s alive. Do you have any evidence that she breathes for instance? Coldhands doesn’t. Doesn’t eat or sleep either. But whatever, we’re not going to agree here so I’m letting it go.
  11. What is conjecture? That Cat wouldn’t kill children? That LSH is not mad b/c that’s a diagnosis for people and LSH is anything but? Or is it that LSH’s actions show some discernment? Or maybe that the scars Jon, Tyrion and Brienne have are not the result of wounds suffered while at the same time the fact that LSH is a walking corpse has nothing to do w/ the fact that she was reanimated after being dead for three days? By this metric all families can be labeled mad, and we should have threads about Lannister madness, Arryn insanity, Tyrell craziness, Martell lunacy, etc etc etc.
  12. Cat would never threaten to hang a child the way LSH did. I know you’re not asking me, but no, I don’t think she’s crazy. She’s something altogether different than a crazy human being. Why not? Just b/c she’s vengeful doesn’t mean she wants revenge on the whole wide world and everyone in it… Completely different situations… scars and physical decay b/c of death, it’s like oranges and rusty wheelbarrows! Brienne, Jon and Tyrion are alive and have scars b/c of wounds they’ve suffered. LSH was dead for three days, her physical body was already decaying when she was reanimated by Beric. Yes, her physical is symbolic of what she is now imo.
  13. Since we’re elaborating on this non-issue… Cat isn’t crazy but she is “guilty by association” b/c she married into the Stark family. And then her whole family are in turn guilty by association again, b/c Cat married into the Stark family. Yes, we are now so deep into the deranged hatred hole that this topic passes for an actual discussion of the novels. I now roll my eyes reading this nonsense so hard and so often that not only I can see the back of my skull, but I’m going to get repetitive strain injury in my optic nerve. I'm fully expecting the upcoming “guilty by association hate threads” on everyone and their aunts who’s ever came within 100 miles of any Stark.
  14. No, what leads her to joining LF in killing Jon Arryn is the fact that she's been crazy in love w/ Littlefinger since she was a teenager. And,again, it's her love for Littlefinger that drives her to try to kill her own niece b/c she was jealous of Sansa. I'm not a Cat fan but I'd like to see you back up these claims w/ some - any! - textual evidence. Cat is one of the very few voices of reason throughout the story, up to the point where, after experiencing the loss of her whole family, she sees her last remaining son (as far as she knows) be cowardly betrayed and killed.
  15. Excellent point. Can we just have Mel prepare a Selyse barbie then?
  16. Have you actually read anything about Maegor? I mean, since he’s a Targaryen I would have thought you had… but I suppose I was wrong. Comparing Maegor the Cruel to Theon Stark is the same level of hilarious ludicrous claim like the Black Knight telling Arthur, after losing all his limbs, that he’s not hurt, it’s just a flesh wound in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
  17. How interesting, another of your fellow TARGAs talks about this same character. I’ll ask you the same question I asked him… is this the love child of Waymar Royce and Wyman Manderly?
  18. Agree about Edmure. At least he truly cares about the smallfolk and we see it firsthand. He's not preaching something he doesn't do... in fact, we learn this b/c he's already brought people into the castle, and Cat scolds him for it.
  19. Yeah, besides thinking it will not happen, I alsoI really don’t like the idea… because these “resurrections” aren’t bringing people back to life. Not really, they’re just making zombies out these people. Not one we’ve seen are happy w/ it, like, ‘yay, I got another go at life!’. I also don’t like (and don’t think it works thematically) that LSH would find peace by turning someone else into an undead corpse. Not to mention that it goes against the natural order, the natural cycle of life. But that’s just my 2p. Valar morghulis.
  20. I don’t think she’s in the Neck, but regardless, I don’t see how she (or anyone) would be able to reanimate a skeleton.
