  1. You know one thing that did bug me though? I know a common complaint is that the early book moves too slowly… but I really thought everyone was getting places entirely too quickly compared to the prior books. It takes weeks or months to get places in system in other books; but I felt like they went from place to place in the blink of an eye relatively. Certainly thought they got from New Egypt to Draper Station without feeling like it had been months. And then when Tanaka needed to come from Bara Guon back to the ring space, it similarly felt like it happened too fast. Dont get me wrong, narratively I’m glad they didn’t spend that time with them… just felt like the timescale was adjusted to fit the urgency.
  2. Finished today. Loved every minute of it. They stuck the landing. Can’t believe it’s over I guess. I started reading LW after attending a book signing in Lexington. They had a table set up with recommended other works. The guy near the table sold me on it when I asked if they would ever get Dan Abraham to come sign. For the life of me, I don’t remember if that was GRRM for Dance or Brandon Sanderson for WoT. I tend to agree with Bubble Bobble. (Loved that game… what with the cute dinosaurs in the bubbles and whatnot…) Did part of me want the satisfaction of a Felip cameo? Probably. Did the story need it? No. And as far as the other cameos mentioned here; I tend to think back to a common complaint I see about fiction. Having all the important events happen to the random person who always turns back up makes the world feel smaller. It’s a big galaxy out there; use it. I think they did that well with this series. I thought we got just the perfect amount of knowledge about the space jellyfish and the mysterious Dark Gods. I liked how the slow life reached up and cracked the ice roof and then naturally just saw the dark of space as another roof to reach up and crack. Someone in the thread here said something along the lines of the builders throwing the proto molecule out through the gates. Minor quibble, but that is incorrect. They threw their seeds out into the Galaxy the old fashioned way. Those seeds then co-opted local life to build a ring to connect with later. I also love Amos, dark and disturbed Amos, as the ultimate moral compass once again. Really nice work.
  3. Ahhhh... if only Kvothe were like Drizzt Do'Urden and they could just hire someone else to write a book about him.
  4. Love all these trailers. I have to admit that I have to check my own prejudices at the door a bit when I watch these. It seems so very on the nose with the Fox News takedowns and the conservative leaning side of me gets uncomfortable... and then I have to remember that their AOC analogue is literally a cold hearted killing bitch. A stark reminder that we put emphasis on and get triggered by things that we want to see.
  5. I don't follow NXT, so its hard for me to understand sometimes the hype that guys like Keith Lee and Karrion Kross have... because they show up on Raw and they are so horribly misused. I saw Kross' recent gimmick described as a "Dollar Store Super Shredder Costume" and I have no idea what the hell is up with Keith "Bearcat" Lee recently.
  6. Just saw the news that WWE released 18 wrestlers. A lot of them, I'd never heard of. But they dropped Keith Lee and Karrion Kross as well as Nia Jax and Eva Marie. This came just after more reports of record earnings. Going back a few posts ago, it does keep looking like Vince is stocking up on cash and dropping liabilities. I might even start to believe the conspiracy theory that Vince's plan is to keep releasing expensive talent and wait for Khan/AEW to spend so much on them that they can't sustain.
  7. My wife and I watch a lot of stuff on HGTV and Food Network. My son watched a bunch of Pool Kings. My daughter loves their True Crime offerings. Theres a good line up of Documentaries and some good Animal Planet stuff. Just a really big variety.
  8. Our house has no desire for HBO Max; but we watch D+ more than any other service we have.
  9. Finished watching S2 today and then just watched those VNN clips. They were fantastic! Have enjoyed the show and look forward to being able to watch Season 3 at the same time as the rest of the world.
  10. Two Abercrombie threads, a Malazan, and a Bakker all on the front page!!! Im so pumped! Making Westeros.org Literature page great again!
  11. This may be the second episode I've ever watched of AEW Dynamite (the first had Shaq go through a table!)it has opened with a heckuva match between Bryan Danielson and Kenny Omega. Half hour in and I really wonder how they are going to fit in a the other matches they've been promoting for the show!
  12. My copy came in the mail today. Looking forward to getting going with it tonight.
  13. I was reading an article a few weeks ago that said WWE value had gone up quite a bit during the Pandemic and the deal with NBC for Peacock. At the same time, they are dumping high salary talent. If this was any other industry, it would be pretty obvious that the company was being positioned to sell. I can’t picture Vince ever selling his baby, but it’s hard to deny the appearance.
  14. Everything I've read says that the PPV was one of the best by any company in years. Its a shame... right as I get WWE Network/Peacock to get PPVs for free, the best ones cost $50 again! Maybe this is for the best, a repeat of the mid 90's Monday Night Wars would be a good thing for WWE if it means they can get their act together and be creative again.
  15. That Goldberg match was worse than I feared… and the bad part is, they are obviously setting up for a further storyline.
  16. Wasn’t expecting Becky Lynch to come back and win in seconds. Wonder what happened with Sasha that she wasn’t out there for that?
  17. I don't know if I remember seeing it announced anywhere, but I saw Mark Lawrence discussing the cover design for the next book which is titled "The Girl and the Moon."
  18. Wondered the same. Also curious about the guy with the Sunday Ticket. Are they just channels in that app?
  19. Went down a bit of a rabbit hole over on the sub-Reddit for streaming. A guy in there mentioned that he had something called a Superbox. He said he gets all kinds of streaming services free on that including Sunday Ticket and other major sports streaming services. He linked this page on ebay. In that listing, there was a link to the homepage for the device Superbox USA I'm honestly confused right now... I replied back to the guy and he said again that he has all those services for free. The device itself looks like a generic Roku and the website is certainly not something that I would call "elaborate." This thing can't be legit... can it?!!?
  20. I just finished the fourth omnibus and REALLY enjoyed the conclusion. Makes the third omnibus worth reading in retrospect. And with that conclusion, I have zero desire to read any possible future book. The series is done.
  21. I would tend to agree. It’s fair at best. I’m slow getting into the fourth omnibus. Murgen as a narrator was actually decent. And I would say that I was mostly okay with the two collected volumes… however, had I been reading the two books individually; I would have been pissed at the ending of the first book since it really left almost nothing accomplished. On the subject of not aging well, there was a lot of modern (for the time) slang that I recall well from my high school days in the mid 90s that was definitely out of place. I’m sure it was distracting in the 90s and even more so now… but I can only take One Eye referring to ramming something “up the poop chute” so many times. I don’t regret reading it and do look forward to taking time with the fourth one, but it was definitely a step down.
