Orbit must hate Sam Sykes: his fucking books always look like shit. Like real shit. And the headline of the new one, Step up to the Gate? What are we, three? Terrible. I haven't read his books, and this is shallow, only because I find the covers so fucking offensive.

Worth noting that iirc The City Stained Red is actually Sykes' first book with Orbit. His previous trilogy -- the first book of which I tried but was not metal enough to finish, making me in no way knowledgeable about the material, so bear that in mind -- was published by Pyr in North America and Gollancz in the UK I believe. Maybe Orbit's trying to keep the general style of the covers going, to carry Sykes' audience forward?
