Season 5 Casting, News and Speculation V 7 [show spoilers, book spoilers past OP]

I didn't like the way they handled Theon's scenes in the show, in season 2 the writing wasn't so good IMO, could have easily been much better (generally, that goes for almost anything after "Garden of Bones"), and I'm really disappointed with their version of Reek... He doesn't look different at all. Hell, he doesn't even have a beard... plus in seasons 3 and 4 the Ironborn are pretty much nonexistent, and we'll not be getting Aeron and Victarion, probably not even Euron... If Theon's their favorite character, it doesn't really show.

I actually loved Theon's season 2 (except for the confusing ending). But season 3 and 4 could have been done better, less torture porn, more character progresion please. And Yara's attack on the Dreadfort?? WTF were they thinking?? That being said, I have faith in all the actors, I think Alfie and Iwan are the most underappreciated members of the cast, and even though I don't like the writing for Yara, Gemma is pure gold everytime she's on screen. That's why I'm looking forward to see if the show gives them better material this year, if they follow the books, the North will have the best story arcs this season.

I agree with you regarding season 3 to an extent, though I think it was important to show exactly how theon was 'broken' (thus the torture porn). But in season 4, Theon's story contained some of D and Ds best embellishes so far; the shaving scene with Ramsey and Roose was great, as well as the bath scene. Whilst it was hard to watch... Alfie played it brilliantly. I rate it up there with Cersei/King Bob season 1.

Well, that's understandable, given they are the most awesome characters in the show any form of media ever. You're damn right.

Agreed, this season I am hoping Roose warns Ramsey not to make him rue the day....

I also suspect that if we don't get Manderly or the Northern Lords playing the Boltons, then Roose will off Myranda.. Just to show Ramsey that he can.

I seriously doubt we'll get Manderly but I think we'll still get some Northern Lords, just played by nameless extras (no offense to the actors).

At least we're getting Fake Arya though, who I was sure they would cut out. Turns out they'll probably just cut the Rattleshirt switch, baby swap and [unfortunately] the Merman court and Wyman but they're keeping FArya.

I'm all for cutting the Rattleshirt switch.. save the glamour trick for when Mel reveals her true self (if she ever does) otherwise it would get repetitive having so many faked deaths, faked appearances, resurrections, bloody weddings etc.

I agree with you about those season 4 scenes- I almost couldn't stand watching either the shave scene or the bath scene because the tension was so high.

We're reading somewhat too much into this. She's not going to die or act out LSH's part in the story. It's either to do with Robin and something happening to him that takes an emotional toll on Sansa or some sexually threatening scenario. That doesn't even mean she'll flat-out kill Robin or that she'll be raped. It could still be traumatic without going quite so far in either direction.

If it's Robin being harmed, maybe she'll just administer the medicine to him that weakens him, which she obviously would be very conflicted/upset about doing. If it's a sexually threatening situation it could just be LF drunkenly coming on to her as in AFFC or something like the Marillion situation.

Cersei also has men searching the realm for her.. Jamie told Tyrion they get either a lordship or knighthood if they find her, so it could be along those lines.. although I doubt it, there is that chance

^He likely will. The wildling elder who appears in the same episode as wights and WWs (508, where I'm pretty sure showHardhome will be) has his scene with at least one person from the main cast. Hivju is in the main cast.

My guess (which I've posted here before) is that showVaramyr is in this same scene and Tormund is trying to convince groups of wildlings who were not captured by Stan to go through the Wall to safety. The ones that don't go with him would then get killed by wights and WWs at the end of the episode.

Yeah, I really wonder what's up with that. There's a lot of phrase repetition in the last books as well ("where do whores go", "nuncle", "words are wind") and so on. I hope it's not a sign of a neurodegenerative disease, those suck especially if you're the creative type (see Terry Pratchett and Alzheimer's - the quality of his writing has really dropped since he revealed it).

Where did you get that from?

I am not insisting on a single scenario, I am strongly disputing the notion the show will have the election in the first episode.

I think that the people who think the election will be downplayed to that extent without set-up are the ones who will be "disappointed". They are basing this notion on so many assumptions about what is and is not in the coming season.

You use very strong language. "Jon's election needs to be set up." "The fact that Jon's election is DIFFICULT is very important" "There is no way Jon's election" "Which means they need to". I see these, and all I read is "I need (to see this, see that)". You're setting yourself up for disappointment if that doesn't happen. Jon, in the show, right now, is the guy with Mormont's sword who resolved Craster's Keep, has good rapport with Stannis, some firsthand experience with the wildings, and who essentially saved everyone's skin in the battle. The only two things to go against him are his age and Janos Slynt. And I have a feeling that a lot of people will vote for him because Janos hates him. Adding what you want would be adding artificial obstacles... instead of letting in Jon cruise into the post on his wave of high popularity and then having people drag things like his age against him.

So, relax!

A lot of what happens with Jon's election depends on how quickly D&D want/need to move Sam, Davos, and Stannis. Considering D&D are okay with Denys Mallister only having a few scenes filmed, it likely means Jon's election takes place rather... sharpish. I imagine Cotter and Denys will arrive in E1, and the elections will close out in E2. Jon's arc is already behind everyone's in the series.

E1: Denys, Cotter arrive, discussions of elections. Stannis offers Jon Winterfell. Mance burned.
E2: Election hubbub, Jon elected at end. Sam, Davos sent off.
E3: Stannis leaves. Restructuring of the NW/Wildlings. Val stuff.
E4: Mel Stuff, Mance is Alive! Mance to Winterfell.
E5: Fetch me a Block.
E6: News of Hardhome. Cotter Pyke sent to Hardhome.
E7: Skipped

E8: Some more restructuring business. Things are looking good. Hardhome happens.

E9: News of Hardhome, fin hits the shan.
E10: Punk Letter - FortehWatch

Yes, but you will note that even this quite compressed timeline has the election in episode 2, not 1. Which is, IMO far more reasonable. Episode 1 election proposals simply seem delusional. When has the show ever had such a major plot point in episode 1 without the slightest bit of seasonal set-up first?

However this timeline assumes we will actually get Winterfell and for the Watch in season 5. While this seems to be forum consensus I am really not so convinced. I think it is a possibility, not a given. It might be worth considering where the season will go if we consider that for the Watch might happen in season 6, episode 2.
