Keeping Aegon from Daenerys and Viserys?

Wasn't the plan to have Viserys invade with Dany's new husband and a horde of Dothraki screamers, then have Aegon and the Golden company come clean up the mess and offer an alternative to crazy Viserys?

That was not the real plan. Besides, they know that fAegon cannot with anything with the GC only.

Illyrio never wanted to bring them back. He wanted them dead though he can never make that public. While fAegon was young, he convinced JonCon that in order for the boy's safety, his identity should remain hidden and the spies watching Viserys and Dany might reveal fAegon prematurely. fAegon was not ready. A boy cannot gather any followers but a bright prince who came to age with intense education and training can act as a figurehead. Illyrio must have sent fAegon and his staff shortly before he accepted Viserys and Dany to his manse.

And then Sold Dany to Drogo in the hope that she will die for sure with the Dothraki, thus eliminating any future threat to Aegon. Egg were his way to make sure that Dany doesn't suspect him. And when he heard the Eggs hatched, he at once decided to cash on past goodwill. So clever of Varys and Illyrio. That makes sense.

Of course. Illyrio never considered Dany as a bride for fAegon until she hatched the eggs. And when she did that, Illyrio only needed her dragons, not necessarily her. I am sure that if Dany and fAegon married in Illyrio's Manse and returned to Westeros together, Illyrio would poison Dany after she served her purpose (by giving legitimacy to fAegon's claim in the eyes of Westerosi Lords and supplying the dragons).

You should also note that Illyrio should always wear this false Targ-lover mask because

1. He cannot raise suspicion in men like JonCon who think that the boy is real

2. He will also have to answer to the Westerosi Lords about what the hell did he do to help the exile Targaryens. He cannot be seen as discriminating between the Targaryens. He had to be seen helping the exile Targs as well and he accompished that by providing them in his Hosue for a while and arranging this Dothraki marriage. But as we said, this was the death sentence of the Targaryens.

Puh, you talk about IIlyrio with such confidence that some might mistake you for himself. We do not know the motivation of Illyrio, its fun to speculate, but dont be fooled by people like Stoneborn here, talking like they've read something we have not.

Well, if it was fake he went so far as to have the GC expecting it and complaining about how many times the plan has changed. Complaints that almost made them quit this job before Blue Aegon came in.

Why aren't people getting this?

The plan was for Viserys to invade with a dothraki horde, and then have Aegon swoop in and save the day.

The mad king's mad son overthrown by the beloved Prince's returned son.

Viserys and Daenerys were being set up to be the bad guys.

That's the best theory that answers my questions. Giving the eggs does not make as much sense, though perhaps Theon Stark has it right in that it was to help them trust the marriage pact. It's an expensive tool - why 3 eggs instead of just 1?

But if Aegon is a fake, why not have him eventually marry Dany? We see in AWoW that

Doran and Arianne are already under the suspicion that Aegon is an imposter. And he's only now just landed in Westeros.

Your theory leads me to posit that Aegon is legit and Illyrio didn't feel the need to have to prove it.

According to the guys of the GC, Illyrio (and Varys) doesn't have one single lined up plan. They adapt to what they have and what they need. Their original plan was Viserys attacking Westeros with the Dothrakis, but that didn't work and that was ok. They gave Dany the eggs because they were useless to them, simply stone eggs. Presenting Aegon with those eggs would make him look more like a pretender, trying to grasp for straws. Once the eggs hatched, they considered Dany a good marriage prospect for Aegon. But that didn't work and that was ok too. V and I are flexible adaptable people, it seems. If Aegon had decided to land and attack other place, it would be ok too.

I also think this is it.

You can easily tell that the Dothraki invasion, at least the iteration we see described in the first book, was never meant to succeed. Robert thinks Drogo has 100K men, but he really only offers Viserys 10K. At most he only has 40K. Robert is expecting to face up to 10 times as many fighters as may actually come, assuming they all even make it over.

If Varys actually wanted Robert to lose to the Dothraki, why highball the number so much? If anything he should've lowballed it so Robert isn't as prepared.

So Viserys and Dany are set up to wage an invasion that was never going to succeed, and Robert prevails but is in a much weaker position due to losses, pillaging, whatever. In comes Aegon to save the day.

I think the eggs were always meant to be currency, to trade/sell for ships to move the Dothraki. He probably figured it'd take the cost of three eggs in order to pay for enough transport.

Illyrio saw how Viserys acts, he could not risk Viserys going bonkers and killing Aegon.

Aegon Train in swordsmanship as befits a knight, Viserys spent most of his time looking after Dany, If Viserys would have try something on Aegon, Aegon would have probably kicked his ass

And then Sold Dany to Drogo in the hope that she will die for sure with the Dothraki, thus eliminating any future threat to Aegon. Egg were his way to make sure that Dany doesn't suspect him. That do not makes sense. If he wanted them dead, he had plenty of unsullied and almost two years time. That would be dumb of Varys and Illyrio

They don't have to fight head to head, slitting someone's throat as he sleeps dosen't require much training.

If Varys and Illyrio intended for Dany/Drogo/Viserys to die in a failed attack on Westeros, how does this mesh with their conversation in the vaults with the dragon skulls? It seems from that conversation that Varys was brewing war amongst the houses, while Illyrio was trying to prepare an army of Dothraki. At least in book 1, this implied support for the Targs. If Varys and Illyrio actually intended for the Targs to lose as fAegon comes to save the day, why is Varys intent on starting a war in Westeros first? Why is Illyrio asking Varys to delay said war? If they intended fAegon to be some sort of savior, it seems to me that Dany/Drogo/Viserys can be taken out of the equation.

But, additionally, does the timing work out with this theory? Would fAegon be ready to swoop in and win a war this early in the game?

Where would get the money, Illyrio?

not Dany, Just Drogo. Aegon would rescue her like a damsel, making Aegon not only a hero to the smallfolk but to Dany as Well. You forget, Viserys was Betroth to Dorne, them combine with the GC Could take down a weaken Dorthaki army once they were done beating up all the usupers, at the same time forever ridding essos of the horseman. That would be kill three bird with one big stone!

Varys and Illyrio didn't know about the betrothal to Dorne.
