U S Elections: Authoritarians, Populists, and Socialists, Oh My!

Rubio wins the D.C. primary. I'm not supporting his candidacy, but Rubio can use this third win as an argument that people were wrong to ask him to drop out BEFORE Florida.

Unfortunately Rubio wins are only making a challeged convention more likely rather than Rubio winning outright at this point.

Some fairly disturbing reports coming out of the trump rally earlier.

Yeah, I saw that earlier.  Here's the NYT coverage:  http://www.nytimes.com/politics/first-draft/2016/03/12/police-use-pepper-spray-to-disperse-protesters-outside-trump-rally-in-kansas-city/

US UNCUT initially described it as a 'drenching', but newer reports are saying only 4 cans were used.

Some trivia about the Republican Primary: Six states and terrtiories don't have preference polls. Instead they elect delegates who may or may not tell their voters who they will be supporting at the convention.

Wyoming delegates declared for Ted Cruz. Guam, US Virgin Islands and Colorado will not declare their candidate until the convention. North Dakota had their caucus where they elected delegates on March 1 but will not declare their candidate until June 7th. It remains to be seen what American Samoa will do.

I point all this out because I like watching the political game at play in in the US and it's frustrating when certain contests have no winners. Also Republican and conservative pundits on TV sometimes point out how undemocratic the super delegates in the Democratic primary are, but at least they put every state and territory to a vote unlike the Republicans.

Look at those liberal thugs trying to incite violence when he is exercising his right to free speech. Intimidating him like the true extremists they are.

Stan, do you realize that without 'liberal thugs' to condemn, Trumps popularity and pull at the polls drops dramatically?

Trump absolutely NEEDS enemies to rally his own followers.

Absolutely i like them at the rallies as well, provided they remain non violent. Him ordering this protesters to get out of the rallies is extremely fun to watch. In today's KC rally he said "Oh they are Bernie supporters, they are here for free lunch" while ordering security to kick them out.

Ofcourse their true nature of violence helps his poll numbers and strengthen the fervor amongst his supporters for him.

I'm also confused how the protesters were attempting to incite violence. Because they were there? Because they were angry?

Inciting violence looks like a leader saying that they wish they could punch someone or literally telling others to punch someone.

Protesting is not that.

So I was reading more about this image (I couldn't manage to download it to my photobucket for some odd reason, so you'll have to click it to view) I imagine most of you have already seen it. It's the photo of an older lady wearing a Trump shirt breaking off the old stiff-armed, Nazi salute.

The more I read about the exchange that the gentleman who posted the photo had with the woman (and what was going on prior to that moment) make me wonder about the value (and ultimately the potential cost) of these sorts of protests. As ignorant and insulting as this woman's act was, it seems to me it was incited by a fairly extreme set of circumstances. If the gentleman's accounting of the exchange is honest (and I believe it is) I have to think that these sorts of exchanges are ultimately going to result in a body count.

Stan, don't worry. Those people were just obviously joking like trump does. Clearly it wasn't meant seriously that they want to actually fuck Donald trump.

Manhole, the NY times did an interview with her. It's kind of interesting how the two sides view it.

I truly hope they were. They should go back home and stick to making youtube videos like this.

Being Australian I get that you don't understand humor or entertainment beyond Mel Gibson and Kylie Minogue, but in the US we have a lot of reality tv. Making YouTube videos is good and all, but it can't compare to making fools out of normal people.

From the NYT article:

'Darin Snapp, a spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department, said officers used pepper spray outside Mr. Trump’s rally in an effort to “prevent protesters from taking over the street in an attempt to fight with rally supporters.”

He said no one was injured outside the rally, but two people were arrested — one on charges of throwing a bottle at the theater, and the other on a disorderly conduct charge for his “refusal to stay out of the street.” '

I understood that to mean that the police were attempting to keep a distance in between protesters and Trump supporters.

Would appreciate it if you wouldn't put down an entire continent of 25 million people, just because 1 person who lives here is being a douche. Thanks!

Yeah, I think her explanation is really pretty reasonable. In the Facebook post he states that someone had grabbed her husbands' sign and ripped it up and threw it at him just prior to the picture being taken as well. It's crazy how a picture like that can be interpreted so differently after getting an account of what occurred prior.
