DireWolfSpirit
My favorite athletes from Rio are all the indomitable souls who made up the Refugee teams. For me they represent the Olympic spirit far and away above the Nationalism.
baxus
Andrija Plainović. He's almost certainly a complete unknown to all of you, but he's a member of Serbian men's water polo team, one of its best players who's won gold medals in every major international tournament. The best part about it is that he, while being interviewed after our team won gold in water polo had the guts to point out the difficult situation our sport is in and to publicly say what is clear to everyone who wants to see it - our success in sports is not a result of a well-placed system that would create new champions but rather on our government granting money to already successful teams and individuals for its own PR purposes. His statement stirred up quite a shitstorm in the media since, obviously, our government has nothing better to do. Other than him, for me it has to be Anja Crevar, a 16 year old Serbian swimmer competing in 200m and 400m individual medley. She hasn't won a medal, hasn't made a bold statement against the shambles in our sport or anything like that. She's just a kid from Pančevo, a small town near Belgrade, who travels to Belgrade 4 times a week to train in an Olympic sized pool since here hometown doesn't have any. The worst part is that Pančevo is a hometown of Nadja Higl, who's won 200m breaststroke gold in Rome 2009 World Championships and all the politicians promised that the pool will be built but nothing came of it, as per usual. Equilibrium
That swimmer guy who made up that he was robbed and sent America into panic about chaos in Brazil, fucking hilarious, except if you are Brazilian then it's probably not.
DireWolfSpirit
<<<<<<Not Brazilian and didnt find it hilarious at all. I find him losing lots of endorsement money over it, pretty enjoyable though.
