Kadyrov's new Chechen units are named after 18th and 19th Century heroes of the anti-Russian resistance, which is...a choice. He has also asked for other Muslim-majority republics to honour his son for beating up a Quran-burner. So far, Tatarstan and Karachayevo-Cherkessiya have complied, giving him medals and praising him for defending Islam.

This is very unusual behaviour, and possibly a sign that Kadyrov might be considering doing his own thing rather than just answering to Putin.

The Russian front in Kherson is being reorganised, with the recently-sacked head of the VDV being reinstated as commander of the Dnipro front and tasked with stabilising the area. Ukrainian forces continue to make inroads, a mixture of some holding of territory, a large "grey zone" in which the lines are unclear and an uptick in boat raids along the river. The area of Ukrainian operations in southern Kherson has expanded, albeit slowly, despite heavy Russian counterattacks.

The United States has developed a "FrankenSAM" programme, marrying western SAM missiles with Soviet-era launchers in Ukrainian service. So far the programme has created a Soviet Buk variant that can launch American Sea Sparrow missiles and the other is a Soviet-era radar set paired with ground-launched Sidewinders. Both weapon types have apparently already completed field testing and are on their way to Ukraine.

The Rosvgardia seemed powerless to prevent the anti-semitic riot in Dagestan. The Russian head of Dagestan has suggested that arrested rioters should volunteer for the special military operation to wash away their sins.

Russia lost an S-400 system in Luhansk and what appears to be an S-300 or lesser system deployed to west Crimea after the loss of a previous S-400 complex there.

An interesting Interview with retired US army general Ben Hodges former head of US Army in Europe.

Ben Hodges Interview with Kyiv Post

For me the most interesting part starts around 4:15 when he analyzes the current US-Government... not painting a very flattering a picture...

He's generally quite optimistic about the war, but does emphasize that we need to give Ukraine the weapons it needs.

Hodges has been extremely optimistic about Ukraine since at least March 2022.  IIRC he said that Ukraine would recapture Mariupol by the end of 2022 and all of Crimea in 2023.  I would take anything he says with significant salt.
