There was no poisoning - Strong Belwas just had indigestion!

However, indigestion can also cause:

  • Nausea or being sick.
  • Bloating of your tummy.
  • Belching.
  • Feeling full quickly when you eat.
  • Heartburn.

And what do we see with Belwas?

Quote

He gave a belch and took a swig of wine.

Quote

The eunuch rubbed his swollen stomach, crisscrossed with old white scars. "It makes Strong Belwas sick in his belly too."

Quote

Strong Belwas was retching noisily.

And all of this after he eats a lot really quickly after doing exercise - exactly the sort of thing that would cause indigestion. Also:

Quote

Indigestion is often caused by acid from your stomach irritating your stomach lining or throat. This is called acid reflux.

This can be caused or made worse by:

  • certain food and drink – such as coffee, tomatoes, alcohol, chocolate and fatty or spicy foods
  • being overweight
Quote

It may be an occasional problem due to overindulgence, perhaps after a large or spicy meal

Quote

"...They are rolled in spice before the honey, so they are sweet and hot at once."

We see him here just shovelling food into his mouth:

Quote

Strong Belwas bellowed, "Locusts!" as he seized the bowl and began to crunch them by the handful.

Quote

"Strong Belwas ate too many locusts." There was a queasy look on Belwas's broad brown face.

Quote

Strong Belwas was retching noisily.

Now, to be fair, someone does confess to poisoning them. But, we have to remember who gets the confession - the Shavepate, who is well known for torturing people until they confess. And it does seem to have been a pretty bad attack of indigestion. But the symptoms match up so well, and Belwas's behaviour is exactly the sort of thing that would cause indigestion.

I really want this to be the case, and honestly, I think the evidence...actually might point this direction. I've thought for awhile that Skahaz just planned this out to frame Hizdahr....but what if Daenerys had eaten locusts? If instead, Skahaz simply seized on the opportunity when it presented himself, this solves that problem (as I never thought Skahaz was disloyal to Daenerys).

Indigestion . . . caused by poison. :)

Jon Arryn died of an "ailment."

Jon Arryn's symptoms were not like Belwas's though.

For one, there is no belching mentioned, nor is it mentioned that his stomach was bloated. In fact, they had to induce vomiting, since Colemon was purging Jon before he was sent away, this suggests that, unlike Belwas, he was not throwing up on his own.

Whatever. The point is, no one suspects poison, not even Ned and Cat, until they get the letter from Lysa, who poisoned him.
