I meant more the novellas found in [i]The Last Wish[/i], but yes, there are a couple of very significant events in [i][url="http://ofblog.blogspot.com/2008/06/andrzej-sapkowski-la-espada-del-destino.html"]The Sword of Destiny[/url][/i] as well. However, I put in references to those events in my review of [i][url="http://ofblog.blogspot.com/2008/11/andrzej-sapkowski-blood-of-elves_09.html"]Blood of Elves[/url][/i] not to be spoilers, but to be of help to those who want to read it without being able to read that second collection.

For those few, like myself, who've been reading the series in Spanish translation rather than waiting for the English ones, his Spanish publishers, Alamut, have updated their Sapkowski page with a new book coming out on May 26.

It's not La dama del lago, the final Geralt novel, however.

I do want to read his latest trilogy, but while I also read elsewhere that Alamut and Bibliopolis will be co-releasing La dama del lago in the near future, why would Faraldo (the translator) start with the newer series when he still had one more remaining with the more well-known Geralt series? I wonder if the publishers are trying to get frustrated fans to try the new series first, then follow up a few months later with the last Geralt one. Strange.

Very good! Both the cover (well, perhaps "decent" is a better term, but it fits with the Alamut covers) and that it won't be too much longer. Seems that the Narrenturm trilogy will be finished in short order as well, which is fine with me, as I'll be ordering that book on the 26th when it's released in Spain, even if it'll cost me about $30 in import/shipping costs in addition to $25 or so for the book.

Yeah, his stories are deceptive in their narrative strength, I thought. Many more layers than I thought and his second collection, The Sword of Destiny, I think is stronger. Too bad it's not available in English.

Found out this evening that my orders for El último deseo and Sangre de elfos shipped today from Spain, so in a week or so, I plan on re-reading the six volumes to date in the Spanish translation, while I wait the next year or so for the final Geralt novel, La dama del lago. However, next month, I should start with his latter trilogy set in the Hussite Wars period, Narrenturm. Curious to see how that trilogy will read.

For my part, even though i didn't read The Sword of Destiny, i thought The Blood of Elves was perfectly accessible, even as a standalone. Though The last Wish does add some important back story and you feel that a lot has happened in between.

Still, it was an extremely good read.

But really, there is a ton of backstory that's missing if the second collection isn't read first. Ciri's first meeting with Geralt, why she's connected with the Witchers, and their first parting is covered in that collection.

Meh. It's also covered pretty extensively in the exposition in BoE. It's not difficult to follow. Like, at all.

I presume Orbit was making a calculation to the effect of 'another anthology will lose x% readers, while going straight to the stabbykill only loses z%'.

Spanish would be your best bet then, since all but the last book (the seventh) are available in that language. I became reading fluent in less than two years, so maybe you could as well? :P

I think the Last Wish is a good place to start. It introduces the Witcher as if you'd never read any of this stuff before so I assume it's the one to start with.

If you want a rough estimate of how much it would cost to import two books of his, it ran me about $75 (with shipping being about $30) to order Spanish editions of El último deseo and Sangre de los elfos. Received it within a week, though. Beautiful covers; might post them on my blog this weekend when I do my weekly Book Porn post.
