[Book Spoiler] well gosh, that's a curious song to play at a wedding... huh? what?

When I read that part I totally thought he killed Arya and I was about to stop reading. She's easily my favorite character.

That's why they should keep it in this episode! Cause even MORE of an uproar between the people who disagree on the Hound.

"He decided to kill her since he realized he couldn't get his money!"

"NO I refuse to believe it"

I am really looking forward to this episode as I think they will make some changes (as some character's aren't present)

I see Catelyn killing Lothar Frey instead of Jinglebell

I see Tywin lannister being present with Lord Bolton (to make sure the viewers understand it was the lannister's doing)

I expect Ramsay to be there too, going "father" to Lord Bolton, then we know who he is.

And I just expect more deaths. But there will be more lannister involvement, I am sure of that.

WiC has the synopsis for this episode now.

Episode 3.09 – The Rains of Castamere

Robb presents himself to Walder Frey, and Edmure meets his bride. Jon faces his harshest test yet. Bran discovers a new gift. Daario and Jorah debate how to take Yunkai. House Frey joins with House Tully. (Written by David Benioff & D. B. Weiss; directed by David Nutter.)

I think devoting it entirely to the Starks would ruin the surprise. It's too obvious. People would know something was up if the whole thing was focused on Robb, Cat, and Arya. It works better if everything comes across as very casual (for the most part), only for it all to go to hell in the last ten minutes (much like how they handled Ned's death).

Tywin won't be there. All other issues aside he is in KL in episode 10 so unless he can teleport he will be in KL the rest of the season. You don't need to beat people over the head with information for them to get a point.

That's how I've felt about it. While this episode will be as good (I feel) as Blackwater, I think it'll be a lot more similar to Baelor (Ned Stark's final episode, 9 of season 1). I think they should keep a good few other story lines going this episode so those who don't know what's coming will be shocked at the end of the episode when suddenly... what the hell? What are they doing? They're killing them?! They're killing all of them!

Agreed, I think a good way of clearing the air (if they decide to make this reveal in the same episode) would be to have a scene right before the final scenes of the red wedding where Tywin makes some reference to how he's not worried about Robb because of his letters and his plans, maybe some snide reference to the Rains of Castamere before showing the bloodbath to the same song the next scene.

The best way to do it would be to have Tywin having one of his wonderful "putting his children in their place" conversation where he reminds them of the way their grandfather shamed House Lannister and how he will not have their house become a mockery again. Then he kind of rolls his eyes at the song being written (he seems like he'd be the type to find that childish, even if he does use it as an intimidation tactic. He knows it's effective and regardless of if he likes it or not, Tywin is nothing if not pragmatic).

So the scene goes something like this:

spoiler'd for fanfic-y garbage

Tywin is writing a letter and making his children uncomfortable...again

Tywin: You have something to say.

Tyrion starts to speak, but Cersei cuts him of

Cersei: Yes. Jaime has sent word that he is on his way to King's Landing...escorted by Stark men. Why haven't we sent someone out to meet them?

Tywin: Jaime will not be harmed. We have Robb Starks sisters.

Cersei: And why should that matter to them? They've clearly lost respect for the boy. The Karstarks have already run back north with their tails between their legs.

Tywin: They are currently marching through our lands. Should the men escorting your brother leave him, they will have to contend with our forces without the strength of the Stark host. If they wish to live, they would be wise to stay with him, and keep him alive.

Tyrion: Yes, I wanted to speak with you about that. Varys's spies tell us that the Northmen mean to march on Casterly Rock.

Tywin: Yes...

Tyrion: ...perhaps we should do something to defend it? For the past 3 months, Stark has been free to roam the kingdom as he pleases. He's defeated us at every turn for the past year and now he means to attack our home and our response is to do nothing? You may not want to give me Casterly Rock, but surely you don't wish Jaime to rule over a pile of blackened rubble?

Tywin looks up and looks at his children with revulsion

Tywin: Do you remember why the Rains of Castamere is called the Lannister Song?

Cersei is sulking, Tyrion replies with mild exasperation

Tyrion: House Reyne rose in rebellion against grandfather and you--

Tywin: --did what was necessary to demand the respect of our house.

Tyrion: You turned their bloodline to dust.

Tywin stares at Tyrion coldly

Tywin: The Reynes were destroyed along with the Tarbeck conspirators, the harlot filth Lord Tytos allowed to command the Rock in his stead was stripped and removed from the westerlands, and the singers had a new song to sing while in their cups. I watched as my father allowed the Lannister name to be dragged through the mud for ___ years. It will not happen again.

-cut to Robb arriving at the Twins-

Or that's all horrible fanfic trash. It's probably horrible fanfic trash.

Lol, yep. Good effort though.

HA not really much of an effort. I was just distracting myself from studying. My pride is not wounded. Most fanfiction makes me roll my eyes too.... but the point is it could go like that. I can picture Cersei whining about Jaime, as she already did. And Tyrion complaining about not doing enough to prepare, which he did before Blackwater and Tywin thinks the war is all but won (for reasons we know, clearly). I'm sure they'll find a competent way of explaining it. I mean they did establish that it was the Lannister song in s2e9. But seeing as a lot of people need things spelled out for them so much that they think Daenerys is named Khaleesi...I don't know.

I'm hoping it's more, uh... surprising than some of the other reveals so far this season. For example, when Dany burned the slavers, everyone I talked to (non-book readers) said, "Yeah, I KNEW That was going to happen! It was so obvious!"

(In the books, it was not at all obvious to me.)

So, I hope they really they go the "holy shit" route, because I will never forget that scene in the book. Ever.

When I was reading, I was shocked that the Northerners were killed in that fashion, in one fell swoop. I didn't particularly care for Robb or think he would survive but I did not think the entire North would be decimated in one sitting. The show really hasn't done a good job of showing Robb's bannermen. However, I think showRobb is definitely more beloved than bookRobb, because book Robb wasn't even a POV character whereas show Robb is...hotttt(!) and a natural protagonist. A lot of Unsullied (lol why are they called that??) think he's going to avenge the Starks and end up on the Iron Throne.

What really got me was Grey Wind dying too. I feel like they haven't shown Grey Wind at all this season tho. MORE GREY WIND grrr!!

Also agree. I think that as long as they keep both of the "send my regards" lines (when Jamie says it and Roose repeats), that should be enough of a clue to a betrayal/change in allegiance. It will be more shocking if the viewers don't fully understand why. They can spell it out a little more in Ep10. If I'm not mistaken, isn't it when the Lannisters are discussing the RW (after it has occurred) where Tywin says the line "some wars are fought with quills and ravens"? There is our reveal.

I think we all know what happens here.

I'm going to miss her humanness, so to speak. ... Brilliant actress. Perfect for the role.

Mark it down, around 9:55 EST, and note the collective groan rumble skyward from the legions of the unwitting among us.

I do hope, if nothing else, Smalljon pimp slaps Raymond with a mutton leg.

She is a great actress. That's why I'm so excited for this. She is going to have the scene of her life when she goes hysterical.

I'm just going to miss robb's acting so much.

I have been fixated with the image of the sword being thrust through Robb's chest ever since reading that chapter. They better do it well!

I feel the same. They better not botch Robb or Catelyn's death scenes, they were really powerful in the book. I am so excited for this episode, ever since I read the book I wanted to see the RW on screen. I'm disappointed in the lack of Grey Wind in Season 3. I wish they would have included him more, so that it would be more tragic when he goes down fighting .

I think the reason Dany's actions in the show were so much more predictable than in the book is that in the book you were inside her head the whole time, and from her pov it really seemed like she might give up a dragon.

I think my friends are expecting Robb to die at some point. I think their surprise will come from the brutality of it and also the timing and setting. Catelyn's throat being slit as she laughs hysterically may also catch them off guard (soooo looking forward to that moment, I wanna see how Michelle Fairley could handle a darker role- it'll help me envision her as Stoneheart).

I have a feeling they'll include Grey Wind at some point before the RW. The book made a pretty big point of Grey Wind snarling at the Freys and having to be left tied up because of it.
