Ser Creighton
:agree: :agree: :agree:Dikon Manwoody should not be on the list, it's funny as hell. Penny is just, it's just got nothing to it. ETA Apperantly it also hs emotional contex, so even better.

Former Lord of Winterfell
Come on, it takes 6 posts for someone to say Dickon Manwoody?"Manwoody" was the screenname of an old-time poster who died back in 2003. A really great guy. GRRM actually named the character for the poster before he died. Can't remember if it was a contest or whatever. There's a number of other old-timers who have been dropped in as characters as well.As for worst names...I really hate "Darkstar". It's like the pilot for a series on SyFy that never aired. DarkAndFullOfTurnips
Aenys Frey is obviously the worst name, but the name Shae just kind of seemed odd to me within the series for some reason. And along those lines I always thought it was weird that Tyrion found a Tysha.
Daphnaerys Seaworth
Hizdahr zo LoraqSkahaz mo KandaqReznak mo ReznakXaro Xhoan DaxosKraznyz mo Nakloz ...whoa! Better be.Skardhaz Lo GarzahnHizlar Zo GandakhKandaz Mo QandazRaznys No KazosSandaz Zo KaklosHey I made up five more :PAnyway, back to the topic.I don't really hate the Ghiscari names, it's just that they are so confusing. My personal list :Penny, Barbrey,Liddle,Selmy (never sounded right to me) ,Tyrion (only for the reason that in my language tyri=Tee-reeh means cheese, not that I don't like cheese but it's kinda funny haha!), etc.
CallmeLordofLight
I hate my name "R'hlorr" "Ree-Lawr" "Rrrr-Hhiss-Lorrd" It's unspeakable even for me. That's the reason for my username.
The Grey Wolf
I agree. Martin should put a pronunciation guide in the back of TWOW along with the appendix. By the way, quick little side-note, how do you think Aegon will be listed. 'The King at Sunspear' maybe?
Rhymes with Weak
It's gotta be Shitmouth, poor guy.
Lord Egeman
I agree. Martin should put a pronunciation guide in the back of TWOW along with the appendix. The Grey Wolf
I liked Shitmouth. I found him oddly endearing. Poor guy must have nearly had a heart attack when Jamie actually ordered a spear up his ass.
benalapin
I dislike names that are obviously an attempt at being a "clever" re-wording of something descriptive about that particular character.Hence my award for worse name goes to Damphair. It always breaks the fourth wall for me when his name pops up. I just sit there thinking "Did you really need to call a guy who worships the Drowned God "Damphair"? "That's the nickname everyone around Aeron gives him and it makes sense why they would call him that. Not sure why that would be something dislikable. Lord Puff Fish
Aenys Frey. I know it should be pronounced 'Ennis', but all I see is...
The Grey Wolf
I always pronounced Aenys as Aeneas.
Ibbison from Ibben
The Velaryons from Valyria has always seemed a bit awkward to me.Yohn Royce is lame. Bronze Yohn Royce rocks.
AMoore4
Do geographical locations count : eg winterfeld he place where its cold, or KingsLanding, the place where the king is. Its always fascinated me that locations have extremely descriptive names
Jon TargStark
I used to see damphair & read it as dam-phair... Always wondered what was so Dam Fair about him, took me a while to realize. My 'duh' moment
The Grey Wolf
I had the same epiphany while reading ADWD when I realized Jeyne was pronounced Jane and not Jean.
Tommen
Yollo!I feel the same way. I think it's because it sounds like "yellow" and I have issues with yellow. The Velaryons from Valyria has always seemed a bit awkward to me.Velaryon is actually one of my favourite house names. Pretty much all the Valyrian names are great: Targaryen, Baratheon, Velaryon, Celtigar (with a hard "c" sound). Baratheon in particular makes me think of strength and righteous fury. Velaryon makes me think of grace and honour, "Velena Velaryon" is just a gorgeous sounding name.
Nuncle Kraken
I loved him...but Donal Noye is a bit of a tongue twister for me. I always want to say "Donal Noyal", which is even worse.
The Grey Wolf
He should have his own theme song. As Tormund said: "A one-armed smith slew Mag the Mighty? Har! That must o' been a fight to see." I hope HBO decides to show it.
