Leonardo
I've been thinking about this a bit; Davos is his subject which kind of hampers things but there definitely seems to be a bond here, one of the only ones Stannis has, because he just doesn't relate to people often hehe. Furthermore all of his other relationships are far newer like Melisandre and Jon Snow, and, well, that's pretty much it besides Selyse and Shireen. Everyone else who could be considered is dead Just wondering if anyone else had considered that Davos is Stannis' only friend, if he has any
Ser Arthur Hightower
Not really, as both Ned and Stannis have stated, you can't really be friends with a vassal. IMO Ned broke this rule to an extent with Jory, but still it is a rule both of them hold to.
MakeThemBurn
The way Davos worships that man creeps me out.

A Man Has Said
One of the many things that gets me about Stannis is his oft-repeated statement that, "A king has no friends, only subjects."When he first says it he's been king for like, two minutes. But it's quite clear all the way through AGoT that he's NEVER had any friends. Not when Robert was king, nor before Robert's Rebellion. As the younger brother of Robert, it really behooved him to make some friends. As a dutiful brother that would have gone a long way towards shoring up Robert's power. A spoon of knife and fork
Yes I think they are definitely friends. They clearly care for one another on a personal level. It's completely possible to be friends with your subjects - it would be impossible not to even if you tried. Of course they are complicated relationships because of the power differential. And sometimes you have to choose between your friendship and duty. But that doesn't preclude friendship also existing.
JonCon's Red Beard
He seems to be the only person he actually and completely trusts. Melisandre has been useful to him, she's a tool for his goals. I think Stannis just wants someone he can talk with like an equal, and despite Davos is not educated like a Lord, he has his own kind of smarts and a brutal honesty that Stannis appreciates. If we remember Stannis' memory of Proudwing, Davos now plays that role, despite Stannis claims Rhaloo does. Stannis nurtured Proudwing and the little bird was with him despite it couldn't be as useful as he would have wanted to. Robert mocked him for having a weak bird, and Stannis had to accept he was right. But I suppose the child Stannis, always so serious and shy only wanted a real friend who appreciated that while he wasn't noisy and charismatic as Robert, was ready to help and care in exchange of honest friendship and company. Stannis has nurtured Davos now: he hasn't helped him to "heal" but he has given him the honours he believes Davos deserved. And Davos thanks him for that and it's loyal. This time, Proudwings won't go away.

Nictarion
Well Stannis only recently became a king, what's his excuse for not having any friends the other 30 something years? Oh right he's a prick. :P
BitsOfBrains
Also I would like to say to the OP I like your little picture. Man if I had all the hours back that I spent playing Chrono Trigger I could have a couple doctorates.

Lol well said. Also, idk if they would call it a friendship, but he had some good times with jon arryn looking at his brothers bastards, and offered to foster his son. They definetly didn't hate eachother.
cyberdirectorfreedom
I would say that Davos is - at the very least - the closest thing that Stannis has to a friend. But, in my opinion, yes; Davos is Stannis' only friend.

Reminds me of Jon's line in response to Stannis liking him, something like "oh he only threatened to behead me twice".
