Coldf00t
So I just bought "City of Thieves" by David Benioff. (For anyone who doesn't know: David Benioff is one of the two showrunners of the Game of Thrones Series, he and D.B. Weiss convinced George RR Martin to turn ASOIAF into an HBO Show, they write most of the scripts etc...) Has anyone else read it? I am about halfway through and its been absolutely amazing so far! If any of you thought about buying it, do it!

RedEyedGhost
I read it several years ago, it was alright. I remember the coincidences were quite ridiculous at several times.
Andrew Gilfellon
How much rape does it have?
buff daddy
I haven't read City of Thieves but I have read his 25th Hour novel. There were some good things, like the pacing and he could really pull you into some scenes & make em memorable. Some things about were a little bit cliche and over the top/tryhard though. Coldf00t
Just finished it and I think it is amazing! Serious where it needs to be, funny where it can be, cool characters, historically interesting.... its a great book in my opinion!
Coldf00t
How much rape does it have? theres no rape scenes but a least some violence if that helps! :box:
Andrew Gilfellon
Don't know. Just wondering because Game of Thrones is obsessed with rape, so I was wondering whether or not that love of rape translated into his writing. Either way I'll pass. Not keen on 1st person P.O.V stories.
Guinevere Seaworth
I read it just this past July. I found it very good, but very bleak. Mind you, I can't imagine the siege of Leningrad in WWII would be anything but bleak.
voodooqueen126
Are the female characters shallow reflections of humanity merely to make the hero feel better about himself?
Darth Richard II
I was going to say ASoIaF isn't that rape obsessed, but then I realized you meant the show.
voodooqueen126
I was going to say ASoIaF isn't that rape obsessed, but then I realized you meant the show. understandable. Do women have brazilians, even though Leningrad is under seige and leg shaving didn't become normative in the west until the 1940's?
Fez
Read this a couple years ago, really impressive book. Very bleak obviously, as fits the setting, but not like The Road or anything. Some of the minor characters were a bit too cliched, and Kolya was a bit much sometimes. But Lev and Vika were well-drawn characters I thought. Calibandar
A thread rampant with GoT haters unfortunately.I liked this book, Benioff can writer. Obviously his career stalled after this one due to other pursuits.
Richard Writhen
I didn't know he wrote prose. Interesting.
