Because evil must be resisted, and sooner or later there comes a time when men of principle have to make a stand. Because war is good for business and it's better to die on our feet than live on our knees. Because they started it. But at this stage in the proceedings," he added, with a slightly lop-sided grin, "mostly from force of habit."A soldier with a gift for archery. A woman who kills without care. Two brothers, both unbeatable generals, now fighting for opposing armies. No-one in the vast and once glorious United Empire remains untouched by the rift between East and West, and the war has been fought for as long as anyone can remember. Some still survive who know how it was started, but no-one knows how it will end. This serial novel from the World Fantasy Award winning K. J. Parker is the story of a war on a grand scale, told through the eyes of its soldiers, politicians, victims and heroes. The first three parts of The Two of Swords will arrive in March 2014, with further installments to be released monthly. This is the first installment in the Two of Swords serialization. MisterOJ
I'm generally not a fan of serial novels. I usually wait until they collect all the various installments into one book at the end of it. I assume they'll do that with this as well.
beniowa
In the 2015 release thread, Maester Llama posted a link to an article by PW that has a little more info on the serial. There is also a dedicated website for the serial as well. http://www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/digital/content-and-e-books/article/66263-orbit-plans-to-serialize-new-k-j-parker-fantasy-epic.html http://www.twoofswords.net/

The story, he said, will feature a large cast of characters and, “a broad, unified sweep of significant events, witnessed by a wide spectrum of diverse characters—farm boys, soldiers, spies, tradesmen and emperors.” He described the concept as “a sort of relay-race structure, passing the narrative baton from observer to observer,” that will allow him to, “quite literally, make history.”

Serious Callers Only
She's always slow, it's why i recommend reading her shorts first. Concentrated KJ Parker is the best intro drug.

Rooster
! Excited for it. And damn the Two Swords publishing scheme. I may have to finally take the plunge with an e-reader now. Thanks KJP and Orbit. Belly of the Bow was indeed slow, and I think it felt more so because of the PoV change. I still think Pattern and Memory are the slowest of the books, though. SkynJay
Long ago I saw a pretty convincing argument that she is Tom Holt's wife ( and I don't have her name handy to give it the proper respect).
