It seems this guy hasn't read the books, but some of his rants about the show are spot on.

GoT’s reliance on flesh furnishings may come straight from the book — heck, it could come from documented Ancient Roman history for all I care. But in a television show, over-reliance on the carnal always comes across as unimaginative, and even a little insecure — as if the creators don’t have enough faith in the story they’re telling and feel the need to maintain the show’s “explicit” reputation.

Though at the same time, considering how boring many of the conversations are, I understand the temptation to play them sans costuming or mid-intercourse.

I will point out that the Spartacus series had even more nudity than GoT, but somehow made the nudity make sense within the story, was not used for shock purposes and was even enjoyably voyeuristic.  ok it was somewhat soft core porn, but also the show never lost sight of the story they were telling, it just happened to include a lot of nudity sex etc.  And the nudity was far more balanced then GoT

Agreed about the nudity in Spartacus, and it was indeed more balanced (male as well as female).

I came across this video of Francis Ford Coppola explaining his approach to adapting The Godfather. As in, a giant notebook, making notes on every page etc.

It's amusing to see someone so meticulous at capturing details, images from the text, and meaning, and to contrast it with David and Dan who seem to be unaware of any greater/deeper textual meaning. And whose show has zero consistency.

This needs to be shared often... And with certain people on and off forum ;)

I've been rereading Adam Feldman's essays at The Meereenese Blot (the essays that GRRM says showed he "got it") and I found this particularly striking paragraph:

It strikes me that this is EXACTLY what is missing from the show. We have tons of characters "progressing from innocent naïf to awesome badass" (or in some cases they don't progress but we are told that they did) but almost every conflict on the show is *external* and the outcome is heavily loaded towards pragmatism (of a certain variety.) This is why the characters are so two-dimensional; they really are characters in a video game without believable internal conflicts (e.g. Tyrion's self-loathing, arrogance and vengefulness coexist in the books with his very real virtues but on the show he's a great guy who is constantly being told by most people - other than his father and sister - how awesome he is. His conflicts are all external, not internal.)

The tv characters not real people who react with real, believable human emotions; they're Magic: The Gathering cards with certain fixed attributes who exist to service an increasingly nonsensical plot.

I love this post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In my mind, Sansa is not even there. This has nothing to do with Sansa. By the time the show is over, she will have played a dozen different secondary characters. Apparently Sansa isn't good enough for their story. Well, I think it's the other way around.

(But I agree, that's what book Sansa would do...)

I disagree. D&D really likes Sophie Turner and hence will give Sansa more of a role to play than in the books, although it won't be anything like the Sansa in the books. It looks like they'll give Sansa part of LS's and prolly even some part of Arya's arc from the books. The way things are going, at the end of the show I won't be surprised if Sansa single handedly wins the North, ruthelessly destroys all of the Stark enemies (not Batfinger of course coz he's part of the Fansa team), kills the WWs and saves humanity, and becomes the beautiful and beloved Queen of Westeros.

Oh, I don't think so at all, not after season 5. But not after the whole show. She's been a human prop for most of the story. And then she wasn't even Sansa anymore. That's not liking a character, quite the opposite.

I don't believe the things they say. They could tell me the sky is blue, and I'd have to look up to make sure. The proof is in the pudding. There may be token moments of absurdity, but boss ass bitch is a cosmic joke.

I agree they've interpreted book Sansa completely wrong. They definitely don't like book Sansa. But they do like Sophie and think she's a fan favorite and therefore will give her more to do on the show than what might finally end up being in the books. The rape scene is not distracting or unnecessary in their minds but rather a part of show Sansa's growing up process and becoming the boss ass bitch warrior queen.

Well, I don't agree with your take on them, I think they are very disingenuous with the things they say.

Well, you're definitely right about that. They've been so inconsistent within their own storytelling not caring about continuity in character arcs or plots that it almost seems like they don't care anymore and are disingenuous with everything they say and do about the show. It seems they just want to be done with the show. However, based on S1 (which I thought was a good and mostly true adaptation of the books), I do think they initially started out to make a decent show but then lost interest. So now we're stuck with having to see them butcher and destroy characters and storylines from the books. Actually, now that I think of it, we do see them being afraid to show characters as they appear in the books from S1 onwards. That's why we have Cersei reminiscing about her black haired beautiful child instead of her aborting Robert's babies, or Sansa not ratting on Ned, or Catelyn trying to convince Ned to stay at WF instead of pushing him to go to KL and become hand of the King.
