  1. Well it looks like Modi is already up to a great deal of persecution of minority religions, so if your not playing for the right team the State is already being empowered to shut down your school, place of worship and criminalize your non Hindi creed.
  2. The vein of "No-one is above the law" runs strong in Americans. 62% want SCOTUS to reject Trumps immunity defense in Jack Smiths election subversion case against the disgraced former President. Poll: Most Americans want Supreme Court to reject Trump immunity claims https://www.cnn.com/2024/04/03/politics/poll-supreme-court-trump-immunity Polls like this are helpful for my efforts to keep the faith in my fellow citizens. It is not always easy, more such poll results are welcome.
  3. Regarding India's Madrasa ban, I thought the controversy stemmed from the double standard with a branch of Hindu schools that are sort of a Madrasa equivalent only for Hinduism and they arent being subjected to the ban? We may need clarification from our posters from India to unpack the issue better?
  4. Havents seen or read the help. Definitely wasnt even sure what Minny referenced so I googled- The word "minnie" is an informal term that means "mother". It's probably baby talk for the Scottish word "mither" or the northern English word "mother", or for "mommy". "Minnie" has been used in English since the 17th century, and is used in northern England and Scotland to mean "mother". I gather I missed something still? Eta: Ahh im seeing a Emma Stone drama I must check out.
  5. Imagine how pissed Jontay's brother must be with him right about now?
  6. If a player is a scratch all side bets will be cancelled, they have to have entered the game for any of these sort of "over/under" type bets to be in play. Or so Dan Patrick is saying on his NBC sports show.
  7. No I wont see her till May when im off for 10 days, its 500 miles one way so too far for a weekend trip. But rest assured we try to do all the cooking and cleaning when visiting so she can be unburdened.
  8. It will become like ISIS and ISIS-K where the truly insane will split because the others arent nuts enough for them. Republicans and MAGA-K's
  9. Also the 1st time I saw the original Planet of the Apes as a young person, those Apes were terrifying and so realistic.
  10. Theres been a handful that shook me, not necessarily in the "slasher" sense or horror, but usually because of just awful characters and evil behavior. "Killers of the Flower Moon", "Spotlight", and the helicopter gunner in "Full Metal Jacket" all had examples of people that disturbed me. Slasher/horror examples would be mostly from childhood and include the wicked green witch in "Oz", the scary as fuck childnapper in "Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang' also the original "Excorcist" scared me to pieces for years.
  11. I could only get the next episode-4 The Cold War available to me on my streaming, unless I do the PPV thingy, aint happening.
  12. JFC who will protect us? Every so many months now theres some big data breach that is absolutely screwing the masses and theres no solution in sight. AT&T says personal data from 73 million current and former account holders leaked onto dark web https://www.cnn.com/2024/03/30/tech/att-data-leak
  13. Found it, IMBD rates it 8.5 Looks like its 58 minutes, I prefer a few hours, not a fan of super condensed stuff usually, but I'll give it a look.
  14. How many minutes is the run time for Stones episode?
  15. If more doesnt come to light it seems like Ohtani will be a victim only and not the protagonist in a gambling scandal. What gives me caution though is the way the Black Sox scandal unfolded, there were many months between the WS fix and the eventual banning of Shoeless Joe. https://www.britannica.com/biography/Shoeless-Joe-Jackson I will wonder if theres another shoe to drop in this story for a bit yet.
  16. The Roll Tide earn the right to crash against the Husky Wall on one half that F4 Bracket. We'll see who steps up tommorow to complete the matchups? Im voting for a Purdue v UConn Championship game.
  17. Yeah I think theres that big divide of where the audience reception is very different from one country to the next. The Japanese Professor was discussing that difference and describing what motivates it. I think she fealt within the 3 hours Nolan could have broke some new ground covering some of the voices we havent heard much from on this topic, perspective beyond the science and politics I believe was how she described Asian complaints of the film. I come away feeling Id very much like to see this subject from those pov's in a 2nd separate film and think I could apreciate each.
  18. Very interesting interview on NPR radio over the Japanese release. The Japanese academic's chief complaint was over too narrow of a perspective was presented and we missed the opportunity to hear from more voices on the recieving end of the decisions to test, use and build up tbe program post war. Namely the voices from Japanese, Koreans, Pacific Islanders and inhabitants of the Western tribal lands, all of whom were affected by the Manhattan Project and its aftermath. "The film's release in Japan, more than eight months after it opened in the U.S., had been watched with trepidation because of the sensitivity of the subject matter."
  19. Well alright this a vast improvement. Couple of 1's and a couple of 2's slayed, about time the "MADNESS" kicked in!
  20. While I wont be cooking it, I did pick up the ingredients for Easter dinner and im looking forward to cabbbage rolls of rice and ground beef in marinara w/cheese. Sides of sweet tator, asparagus, crunchy (I hope) brussel sprouts and rye rolls. Choice of 2 pies One Chocolat-y and one Key Lime. Washed with Amberbock which im starting to like on my Sundays.
  21. Imo Republicans by association, have corrupted what the label Christianity emotes and that has been a lamentable slide to witness in my lifetime.
  22. Yep im seeing lots of articles over Christians taking great umbrage over Trump hawking thier book like a greasy carni barker out for your pocket change. Reminds me of the Martin Sheen lines in Wall Street to his son about not waking up with regrets because he didnt get in bed with a foul being in the first place. Ah here it is-
  23. As an atheist/agnostic I enjoy reading religious texts of all sorts. It supports my faithlessness tremendously. Eta: I find I usually know the New Testament a bit better than most Christians I have contact with. I am also greatly amused with what they think the Old Testament says and how it contradicts Rabbinical interpretation of the same text.
  24. Kind of poor optics for Newsom. Panera Bread, however, was ruled exempt from the $20-an-hour minimum wage hike by Gov. Gavin Newsom after the billionaire owner of several of the chain’s locations donated to his campaign, according to a report.
  25. Court ruling effectively outlaws Islamic schools in India’s most populous state https://www.cnn.com/2024/03/24/india/india-madrasa-court-ruling-uttar-pradesh-intl-hnk
