  1. Just in terms of the undead, you have other examples though not the same as the barrow wights. There is whatever you want to call it in the Dead Marshes. We don't 'see' anything but the implication seems to be some kind of spirit or shade or imprint of some kind, luring unwary travellers to their death. Then there is the obvious shades/army of the dead that follow Aragorn. As I said they are obviously different to the barrow wight, most notably because they aren't physical beings, but I don't think the undead feels too out of place. I seem to recall further context being added in the appendices too. But then I enjoy the Bombadil scenes too so maybe I'm the wrong person to ask (I also played a Lord of the Rings MMORPG for a few years which had a lot of undead stuff so there's also that bias )
  2. Very nice. Will this be self-published or do you have a deal? Also, is there an overarching theme to the anthology that ties them all together? I mean from the title i assume some kind of outsider/other/“oddity” connection, but just curious to hear from you. Regardless, keep us posted on more details and links when you manage to get this out
  3. I adore Robin Hobb but she isn’t the first name I would think of when recommending something for fans of ASoIaF. Though I agree with Ran and Wert, it really depends what part of ASoIaF people enjoy. Though I would disagree with Wert that LoLL is for those who enjoy Tyrion and the cynical humour. I would say the two series probably link best for those who enjoy the Arya chapters a lot. There are sort of similarities between the Gentleman Bastards and Arya’s various associates, be it the BwB, the Hound, or the FM. And then the Braavos chapters have a similar kind of setting to Cammor, and the FM training shares some elements with the Gentleman Bastard’s heists. But its mot important, its a very inexact measure to recommend one series based on another. On a separate note, if I never read the word grimdark again it will be too soon
  4. For me it is still Lies>RSURS>RoT, mostly because I just love the moments where we see all of the Gentleman Bastards interacting. Probably why the flashbacks of RoT are my favourite parts of that book. However, i found all of the books more enjoyable on a re-read, and I think they are all very good. I’m not sure how i felt about the ending of RoT and the direction the story might take as a result, but I have faith that Scott will be able to pull it off. And even if I don’t like the story direction, I’m sure it will be a hell of an entertaining read anyway
  5. The first five books of the Dresden Files are 99p on Amazon right now. May be equivalent elsewhere, not sure https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003AT112O/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=littlebrown03-enewsletter-21&camp=1634&creative=6738&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B003AT112O&linkId=e1f1ffcd7e67b62701a91c93e5c56ad7
  6. Florence and the Machine, Light of Love. No video, all income from the song goes to Intensive Care Society though so go listen for that alone. Of course its Florence anyway so...i would be listening regardless..
  7. I thought book 1 and 2 were fantastic with three suffering a bit of a decline. Felt the same with the Mechanical, but to a bigger degree. The first and second books were so good and then the third was a real let down

    Board Issues 4

Does the we page show as fully loaded? Sometimes bits of the we page are missing if the Web page won't load (usually it's when my Internet connection is poor)
  9. I would also suggest its something there is no single rulebook on. Some general points like karradin suggests are of course good starting points, but everyone is going to be different, so what is comfortable for your cousin may be the nightmare scenario for others. Also, as a small point, and others can correct me if i am talking twaddle - i thought the generally accepted phrasing/terminolgy would be: “... a cousin of mine has come out as transgender..” rather than transgendered?
  10. Excellent news! Congrats, and hope the publisher is happy with your work. You'll have one customer anyway (That goes for all of the titles you mentioned as I enjoyed Thorns of a Black Rose and like the world and 'mythos' of Sooty Feathers so would like to see more in that world). Where in the world would Diabolic Immunity be set?
  11. Square peg, round hole, the simpler and more likely solution is to say it doesn’t fit Arriane
  12. But the Aegon isthe treason for love. Arriane is the subject of the love in that case, not the bertayer
  13. A common intepretation of Quaithe’s warnings are that they arent prophecies but knowledge from use of a Glass Candle, or at least just reference current events rather than the future; i.e. all of these parties are currently heading towards Dany, hence the warning about Aegon despite him turning away and going to Westeros. Arriane is not heading towards Dany then so wouldnt appear in such a warning
  14. Was The Forsaken released as a text version or only as a reading at Balticon? I seemed to recall it being on GRRMs website at some point but can’t recall for sure. I know there is at least one text version floating around but i dont know if that was just a transcription
  15. The penguin is a notorious drunkard and glutton and was probably sleeping off the effects of his vices when you made your post. I see he has welcomed you now though

    Board Issues 4

Having this issue again after things seemed to be fixed for a lomg while. It has been specifically on the Mental Health Wellbeing thread so far
  17. Pretty sure they are fighter jets Lord Manderly is a time traveller, confirmed
  18. Havent watched Masterchef in years but i did love the UK version at least (i watched around 2007-2014). I really enjoyed when they got to the quarter/semi-finals and started doing challenges like catering for the army or film crews etc. The Australian version, as you said, seemed to drag on forever with contestants coming and going in an unstructured fashion. Never watched the U.S version, their competition shows are always overly scripted and dramatised for my taste.
  19. Equating dragons to “stupid animals” after what has been portrayed in the books thus far is in interesting choice. There is clearly intelligence in them beyond that of say a cow, a sheep, a dog, etc.
  20. Men of his greatness seem to be in short supply....
  21. I can’t wait to see a three year old Rhaego take over the Dothraki!
  22. Bran’s Weirwood vision is through the Winterfell heart tree. He has other dreams/visions that are not through that heart tree, e.g. when he sees the Heart of Winter during his coma. Bloodraven tells him that he will eventually learn to see beyond the trees thouh, they are simply a useful conduit. So, to answer your question, i guess the Weirwoods themselves see only what is in their line of sight
  23. This is not the software you are looking for, but its close; https://bgr.com/2019/09/05/what-to-watch-google-search-tv-and-movie-recommendations/
