HBO Releases First Four Episode Titles

Westeros

They just broke it into 2 paragraphs because there's so many. I wouldn't read too much into it.

Well, I disagree with this because of their specific choices.

An easy way to break it up could have been, say, by credits sequence order, but they did not do that.

Theon was in the first list for the S2 press release, but not S3 or S4 - like maybe he didn't have much actual plot importance. Only torture importance.

Mormont was in the first list for the S3 press release, but not S4 - like maybe Dany will cast him off as her trusty sidekick.

Worst deviation from the books by far, everything else pales in comparison. That scene was so well-written in the books. It completely changes Tyrion's character to have removed it, it's like he's not even the same guy at all!!! D&D hate Tyrion, why else would they have removed one of his coolest moments?

Ya know, someone might actually agree with you. There are weird people on this site.

She leaves pretty shortly in AFFC. She's obviously a key player, but she's very behind the scenes. We don't see her doing much, and after Joff's wedding she's done all of her scheming (that we know of). I do agree with keeping her around, but they need to tone her down a bit.

She's not done all her "scheming" and she's not behind the scenes at all, she's sparring with Cersei, she makes sure the Tommen-Margaery wedding happens right away as well as the "bedding." And some of her best lines. I hope they tone her up a bit.

The Purple Wedding was the big event involving her. Organising the marriage to Tommen is another thing she does I'll give you, sparring with Cersei isn't exactly scheming though - it's just snarking. I feel that she was overused in S3, and they just invented scenes that were essentially just "here's Dianna Rigg snarking - isn't she awesome?" And she was awesome, but in future...let's put her in scenes were she needs to be.

Does anyone have any thoughts on when (in the season) the Wilding attack will occur South of the Wall and the subsequent death that occurs? Maybe around ep 4 or 5? My first thought was maybe Jon and a small group of NW would be out at Craster's avenging Mormont (as seen in the trailers) and he would arrive back in the aftermath to find Ygritte already down.

Ideas? Theories?

Check out this thread and my post about halfway down the 1st page. Should answer your questions....

The actor for Polliver is only in one episode, so I think Arya’s ‘old friend’ is needle, but that this is also where Polliver dies. The trailers show the hound asking about the names and this makes sense that it would follow Polliver’s death.

As to Stannis losing patience with Sir Davos—isn’t this probably about releasing Gendry? There needs to be SOME 'sent away time' before Davos then comes back with the ‘north needs help’ message.

If Bran and company are held by Rast at Craster’s keep, and chances are low Bran is still there when Jon and party arrive to seek justice, perhaps this is where Cold Hands might come in? I just really want to see Cold Hands at some point, so I keep hoping. Cold Hands ALSO defends them as they get to the cave of the CotF, so maybe later, but it might be nice here to get their escort.

‘Nother thought on Jon and company going to Craster’s Keep—perhaps they’ve been sent on what is INTENDED as a suicide mission, but Jon is successful because a few allies have gotten away and know what’s going on there. (Ha—Frank got that—saw his post after I wrote, but I agree)

This all sound to me like Bran’s and Dany’s threads are being seriously speeded up, which I think can work fine—they are the ones that draw out a bit.

Davos has already read Stannis the Night's Watch letter, and Stannis has agreed to go north.

I don't mean to single you out, but I hate this line of thinking. Not every scene that doesn't advance plot is a waste of time or filler. Characters development is a perfectly legitimate reason to have a scene.

I've been saying this for a long time. The "filler" label is usually applied to Brienne, too. I still don't see them having her sit out next season except for one scene.

Cersei and Lady Olenna sparring is actually pretty essential to not only the "scheming" which is actually a quite important plot development but the drama.

I think it can go down three ways:

1) She only has her one ADwD scene (that would be pretty lame imo)

2) They make up some new stuff for her to do

3) They start including TWoW material for her and Jaime as soon as next season

Yeah I would've loved that, as what happens to her during book 4 really helps build her character even more, but I fear we're getting LS this season : if the spoiler you're talking about is the ear-biting , it likely means Crossroad Inn, immediately followed by LS.

I was thinking of the tested against great hardship one. The ear biting I think could happen any time, like the time she killed the three guys in one go. No Hyle Hunt to call her a swordswench and brag about how awesome she is to Randyll Tarly, sigh. The fans wanted Eoin Macken to play him so much, I think we almost thought it would happen. That would have been great. I just wanted her to get her backstory time, and her true knight time. Also the scenes were meant to be in parallel to Jaime's. That continues their story while they are apart. Then they meet up again...

sigh... I know, but I don't want to get my hopes up : it's very unlikely we'll get any of those . GC did say something about her being "unsettled" and having to rely more on her intellect and showing a bit of humor (irrc) : I think she's referring to her KL scenes, which might prove interesting for her character development.

With all due respect, "watch Dianna Rigg snark" scenes are not character development. In this sort of story, every scene should in some way advance the plot. This can be directly, or less directly through character development. This is especially true of an adaptation. It kind of becomes hard for D+D to justify excising certain plot points because of time constraints when they add in scenes that don't further the plot.

When I briefly checked the Wikipedia page for Season 4 of Game of Thrones, I noticed that someone had updated the episodes section to include the title of the fifth episode. It's listed as "First of His Name".

The source that was cited to support the update was a link to HBO's online schedule. I tried to follow it back to the source, and got redirected to HBO's home page for Game of Thrones. In checking HBO's schedule myself, I was unable to find anything beyond the week of April 20 (when Episode 3, "Breaker of Chains" will air).

Needless to say, I'm skeptical ... but the title itself does sound like a credible option. If "First of His Name" does turn out to be actual title for the fifth episode, then it sounds like it would be the episode that features Tommen's coronation.

Thanks for the link, Joyful Union! After my original post went up I was also able to find the title on HBO's schedule by typing "First of His Name" into the search bar. Seems like it's more-or-less confirmed, pending an official press release.
