Winterfell is Burning
New Avengers #31 discussion -> But Doom was searching for Rabum Alal. Lady Octarina
Oh no, looking at the DC solicits makes me want to read most of their new #1's. You all know I'm not that well-informed on DC, so forgive me if it's a stupid question, but is the June issue of Aquaman the first written by Cullen Bunn, or are there others? I think all the new number ones are genuine jump on points though. I thought Bunn had signed an exclusive with Marvel?
protar
New Costumes for Wonder Woman and Superman: http://www.superherohype.com/news/333323-dc-comics-reveals-superman-and-wonder-womans-new-costumes Wonder Woman's costume looks badass, though I'm not sure about the armblades. I'm so used to comic book heroines being scantily clad that when they actually come out with a costume which is somewhat practical, it is both surprising and also not surprising at all how much cooler they look. She looks way cooler. Superman...is not wearing a costume.

Yes, Cullen Bunn is taking over from Jeff Parker in June. I'd recommend the entire run so far, though--it's been good solid comics, and the Aquaman/Mera dynamic is genuinely wonderful in an era when established relationships are being broken up at both Big Two companies. Also, the new artist just did wonders on the wonderfully weird six issues of Klarion, so it's going to be another good-looking book. Bunn is definitely not on an exclusive, he's been writing Sinestro for DC since it launched.

red snow
Bends explains the importance of Old Man Logan in Secret Wars. Haven't read it yet, but first impression on hearing about this: :stillsick: :ack: WTF????????? The sorrentino art will probably be great. It's a shame they have to tell you the book is important. At the same time saying something even more important happens afterwards undermines the story that's about to happen. I know it's all hyperbole and I wouldn't mind if the medium was aimed at pre-teens but I scratch my head at what part of the current audience buys into all this bullshit? Plus I'm confused how some battleworlds are direct continuations of the old stories while others are strongly stated as alternate realities (eg the age of apocalypse battleworld). I have to say that while the concepts of convergence are of no interest to me, I at least appreciate the fact they appear to be stories I could enjoy as they are. Secret Wars on the other hand has revisits of concepts I liked but makes them all feel so integral to some larger picture that I don't want to invest in them as I don't particularly want to read another years worth of comics afterwards. Then again, I'm not the person keeping Marvel afloat so what do I know. It is interesting that DC seem to be gambling on the different/new reader demographics as opposed to sticking with the tried and tested "we want the same but tell us it's an everything changes event" crowd that dominates the market. I guess Image indirectly has DC looking the other way as Images best sellers are not solely reliant on the old group of readers and are doing pretty well. Lady Octarina
Magneto #16: good enough, but this book has been better Storm #9: I need a Storm and Gambit ongoing. Chrononauts #1: interesting, and not as Millar-esque as usual. But then, I'll read anything if time-travel is involved. :blushing: I have to say that while the concepts of convergence are of no interest to me, I at least appreciate the fact they appear to be stories I could enjoy as they are. The House of Reused Ideas, as some are calling it. But I'll confess Hickman actually got me interested in seeing what comes out of his books, so, to my shame, I'm probably reading the main Secret Wars book. And many of the X-Men related tie-ins (not Old Man Logan, though, come on).
red snow
I may as well just wait for the film of Chrononauts - Vaughn and Goldman usually do a far better interpetation anyhow :P I feel like, after it was bought by Disney, certain bad editorial habits have become worse at Marvel. And many of the X-Men related tie-ins (not Old Man Logan, though, come on). Hickman's is probably worth it as I imagine he's had this stuff planned out since his SHIELD days. If it had (or will be) been done in the style of "age of apocalypse" - then I'd be a lot more curious. I also doubt there's going to be any big changes in how they approach their comic storytelling. They are still the dominant share in the market so they don't need to take risks or find new readers (unless they want to expand their readership). It's may not a long-term plan but they can cross that bridge when they need to.
Sci-2
Oni Press to open submissions in May “We are on the hunt for new stories from new creators, featuring characters that reflect the diversity of the world around us,” Editor-in-Chief James Lucas Jones said in a statement. “Oni Press has always valued content and execution, and we are looking for creators and projects that can support our goal to publish excellent, varied, and original work.”
red snow
Waiting for more details on whether this is a writers or writer/artist deal. I suspect it's the latter in which case not much use - although it is good to see more companies opening up submissions whether it be via competitions or as a 1 month op. I need to pull my finger out on finding an artist to collaborate with. I've been checking the Top Cow competition board and looking at their deviantart sites figuring they are at least keen (and can produce sequential art)
Teng Ai Hui
What is DC doing with its GL books? I knew they were going to discontinue Corps and New Guardians. Last week in Corps, as was expected, the story arc was completed and John flew off into the sunset, most likely to land in Hal's Green Lantern book where he'll have a minor storyline. I then assumed that NG would do something similar with Kyle and his story arc. Instead, DC created a White Lantern Corps, in which I have zero interest. I think the Green Lantern books went the same way the X-men books in the 90s went. They were probably my favourite books while Johns was on them but I eventually got rainbow overload and the fact that every other human is a lantern. They probably need to scale back a bit when they do the soft relaunch in June.
Bastard of Boston
I have such a love/hate with Bendis. I finally got around to reading Alias. I felt I had to, with the Netflix series coming soon. I like it a lot (I have four issues left). It reinforces my feeling that Bendis should not be writing team books. He does better with one focused POV. The man cannot write a group of characters without all of them sounding exactly the same. RE: Avengers #31 The place where Doom is seems to exist outside time/space, hence how he went there looking for the one thing he ultimately became. I love Hickman, but I gave up trying to make sense of anything he does...I read along and just wait for some really smart person to summarize all of the important story elements. red snow
I guess it's why he's done so well with Ultimate Spider-man over the years - a tight focus on one character. I liked his Daredevil initially too but it became pretty apparent it was meant to be read in trades so lost interest in it after a year.
