[Book Spoilers] Rant and Rave without Repercussion

I find it very vexing that they decided to go with the attempted rape to set-up the Sam/Gilly sex scene instead of using Aemon's death to explore their relationship. I assume the reason for this is that B&W seem to have trouble maintaining any sort of tone long-term. Things happen in the show and then are discarded, there's very little that remains in motion, affecting the rhythm and tenor of the episode or season. They did a similar thing with Barristan: a few seconds of him at the beginning and then completely forgotten about as they throw in scenes with dragons. I think this is partly why it felt so underwhelming to me: his death just happened and then, as soon as his funeral was over, they forgot about him.

If only Olly was portrayed by a black child actor, then they label him a Summer Islander and have him give the speech on sex/love being natural and to be embraced! Of course that would not have been half as hilarious as the constant reaction shots.

Why is Cersei being called Carol?

Because's she so badly out of character. I think Julia Martell started this, not sure. Or Chebblahblahbah (I can't remember anything past "Cheb").

This has been done to DOZENS of characters. Jaime is Larry the Plotslayer for example, and Daenerys is Deadpan Stormborn.

Oh, what was that tool that Sansa grabbed when Ramsay was expositioning all over her during their walk? Some kind of medieval keg tapper? Are they not going to use her awesome mini-needle necklace as a weapon? It seems like she could fashion something more deadly out of pretty much anything on hand in her room.

It seemed like an old-school corkscrew

Speaking of Rickon, does anyone actually think D&D will bother to have him return to the series as GRRM had put in place in ADwD? It really seems like no exaggeration that they would forget about the 5th Stark child, so he remains a loose plot thread that never becomes resolved.

One thing that's still bugging me is the wildlings. It seem as if they're all at Hardhome. So what happened to Stannis apparently going to have "thousands" in chains at the end of S4? Was Tormund the only wildling they managed to capture? Seriously, where are they? :dunno:

Probably hanging with Balon.

I wonder if there'll be any sort of follow-up to the Sam/Gilly almost-rape. They have the evidence of an assault - Sam's broken nose and bleeding head - or will they decided just to let our two rapists go free?

I looked at the E8 preview and it seems there's going to be another scene with Olly bemoaning Jon's wildling affiliation. They really cannot be restrained when it comes to things like this, can they?

And no starving, dying refugees either. Jon's command in Season 5 is so damn lackluster when compared to his revolutionary lead in ADwD. But you're expecting too much you entitled bastard. How dare you demand consistency.

Like how Stannis absolutely needed the Wildings though then decided he could march without them, beat Bolton, rally the North and SOMEHOW win the throne. Consistency is a ridiculous expectation!

Expect a shot where Sam visits Olly in his quarters where the latter is in the process of sharpening a knife, before stopping to converse with Sam.

Haven't caught up on the thread but glad it's still alive :)

unpopular opinion: Lena Headey was great in tonight's episode imo

Is that really unpopular? she's a fantastic actress. She might've been slightly outshined by Pryce last night but she was still on top form imo.

Overall maybe the best episode so far of this mediocre season but still a fair bit to dislike. Winterfell just isn't working for me for reasons that have been stated and Castle Black was a bit hit and miss. I liked Aemons send off though Allisers "you're losing all your friends" line was so out of place during that scene. All the pans to Olly at the beginning induced major eye rolls from me. The Sam and Gilly stuff was meh, nothing like attempted rape to get a girls panties off eh? Their use of Ghost is so weird like I was happy to see him but it makes no sense why he shouldn't be with Jon

Dorne was stupid again but I didn't feel like the Sandsnakes acting was terrible this week at least (Myrcellas on the other hand..... :leaving: ) seems Alexander Siddig is getting the Ciaran Hinds treatment of being criminally underused, he's had like 3 lines and has been the best part of Dorne by a mile, shame.

Having last episode Arya prepare for change of face, then calling episode "The Gift" and then not having the Arya give the Gift to someone is just stupid plain and simple, worst thing is it will likely happen in next episode it's like they don't even care anymore or they are really really stupid. And not having any talk about giving wildlings The Gift to settle, they talked about it in previous episode and will talk about it in the next, but no not in this one, it's not like episode name suggests it. They could easily shift few scenes in next episode or some from the previous, and have both storylines done in satisfactory manner but nooo. Great thing is they shoehorned phrases involving gift-giving in every single conversation to sound smart, but actually using source material to your benefit and in clever way, no chance.

Wall story is a joke as usual, Gilly has to narrowly avoid rape because we would probably forget rape exists if we aren't reminded every five minutes, whole scene was too long and absurd, Jon leaving Ghost, why, it makes no sense whatsoever. Sam was kinda too eager to have sex, there were very different circumstances in the books and he still had to be almost ordered to fuck, but he is sexually frustrated fat nerd in the show from the beginning so... Aemon's death kinda rung hollow, maybe it's just me.

Sansa is like sex slave now, locked in the tower, whole she choose it or it was her plan she just got upset about loosing virginity to Ramsay is definitely out. Theon was stellar with the candle, they didn't need the rape, just have her locked, that would alone be best way to destroy Sansa's illusion of control.

Stannis/Agamemnon stuff will be great, I foresaw it in the middle of ASOS, but they could made it more subtle, and Stannis wants to nail Mel, wtf, Stannis would never like to nail someone, it's duty nothing more.

KL was kinda good and by the books at the same time as being jumbled mess, lack of complexity is more then evident.

Porne was fucking ridiculous, that is it. Meereene is also in that category, maybe even worse, most characters are paper cut-outs, they are only there to drive arcs of more important characters.

No Doran. No Stannis pointing out that Balon is taking for freaking ever to die.

Mel was like Robb is dead, Joffrey is dead, 2 out of 3, sounds good, lets hope audience forgot about Balon too.
