Love your A-Team reference. I'm going to assume here that Trump isn't going get to be George Peppard here and say, "I love it when a plan comes together", cause everything he touches becomes a cluster. Anyway, if the Trumpster wants to take the gloves here, let's just hope somebody rises to the occasion and says, "Okay".

Well, I don't believe in the use of political violence as means to shut somebody's speech down, a lot for the reason I don't believe in being the one to initiate violence against another person. But anyway, are you now retracting your prior attempt to excuse Gianforte? Because there was no excuse for his action.

The republic is almost certainly doomed, I want to get my shots in before I'm lynched. But more on point, I did not say anyone (nor all with contrary views) were stupid or crazy. I said libertarians were on the spectrum, suggesting they have a mental disability. I made the original comment as a piggyback to your own benign use of the word spectrum. It was a smile and wink joke. But I'll stand by it. If you want the deconstruction of social programs and to eliminate the ability of the government to function, then you have a mental disability. Either you cannot empathize with those who have less than you, or you cannot understand the benefits of a society. Both of those options indicate malfunctioning mental faculties. Hey man, why are you being so discriminatory and assuming that the AI-run machines aren't people? They're perfectly allowed to advocate for adequate working conditions for themselves and deserve to own the means of production just as much as a human worker. Robo-slavery is still slavery. In fact, as I said earlier in this thread, I expected more people to be making this argument, but it doesn't seem to be the case. Of course, there's also the Ned Stark school of thought which suggests exactly the opposite (i.e. that people in leadership positions should be willing to carry out the dirty work with their own hands every once in a while). 1 hour ago, OldGimletEye said: But anyway, are you now retracting your prior attempt to excuse Gianforte? I don't find this excuse altogether convincing and you don't find it convincing at all, but the voters of Montana like it well enough.

So basically no consequence. No way he's going to serve a jail sentence if he can plea and pay the full fine. I feel sick. That's right, Gianforte has just shown Republicans that promoting one of the central steps towards a fascist state is an effective way to curry favor with the voters. This is gonna be a new norm. This is why it's so horrifying to me. It now gives people permission to behave this way. It will definitely become the new norm. I can't decide if I should flee now or wait until they shut me off from my bank account.

I don't find this excuse altogether convincing and you don't find it convincing at all, but the voters of Montana like it well enough. Here is the bit that you wrote, that sent me high and to the right: Quote Yes, of course. Freedom of the press is not a license to constantly insult someone and find fault with their actions no matter what they do. I have not heard of this Montana politician prior to the scuffle, but the press is doing the same thing to certain national politicians and they're pretty blatant about it. I suspect the same thing was going on in Montana. Here's a quote from a CNN article: I have no clue to what you think you were doing here. First, the reporter in question did not as you say “ insult someone and find fault with their actions no matter what they do. ” He asked Gianforte a question of great public interest. But, even if the Reporter had asked him something a bit more trivial in nature, it does not justify or excuse Gianforte’s actions. Nor does severe criticism of Gianfortes actions or policies. It seems to me you're trying to impose some kind of limitation here on the freedom of the press that doesn’t exist in law, nor should it. The above paragraph is just complete nonsense. And then making matters worse you quote some idiot who says: Quote "We've watched how the press is one-sided. Excuse me, that's how I feel. (They're) making him their whipping boy so to speak through this campaign," Screaner said. "There comes a point where, stop it." Notice she doesn’t really say, “Ya we know Gianforte fucked up. And we forgive knowing he fucked up.” Instead what does she do? She tries to justify his actions by saying “There comes a point where stop it.” That’s not merely forgiving somebody for fucking up, it’s trying to excuse him for fucking up. If you don’t think his actions were excusable, then I’m not sure how you “understand” others finding his actions excusable. Understanding them for forgiving him, yes. But understanding them excusing him, no.
