Wow the WhattheFlick ones are the best ones I've listened to BY FAR, out of all the podcasts I've heard. These guys pay attention and give a lot of thought to the characters and motivations. Will continue to follow.

I only saw their first one so far but tbh the guys at What the Flick didn't really do it for me. They didn't really give any insights it was all just trivial joking. There's nothing wrong with a bit of that but when it's the whole review, no thank you. None of them seemed to have a clue what was going on aside from the book reader.

When you say "first one" do you mean the review from the first episode? I haven't seen that one yet so I can't say on that one. The last three have been great though, with a lot of insight and good discussion from a non-book reader perspective. And it is obvious that they have a real passion for the show.

I don't have the link handy, but it was in his expectations for season 2 video last year. From the sound of it, he just found out that Robb dies, but not how, when, or any other details.

Hopefully it's just Robb's death that is spoiled. There's quite a few shocking moments after that too.

His reviews aren't as enjoyable as they used to be. He clearly doesn't like the show as much anymore and that makes it less entertaining without his trademark enthusiasm.

Larry's review of The Climb was sort of a whole lot of nothing. I mean, he didn't even complain about Sansa. Hopefully he'll rekindle his enthusiasm soon.

Yeah, Larry has jumped the shark a bit.

What the Flick is the best one going right now, for different sorts of perspectives. The Turkish guy and the guy with glasses are entertaining as Unsullied who provide unspoiled analysis and some decent predictions. The other reader guy is nice not to get too high and mighty about the books and correct them where needed. The girl represents the casual fan.

The other ones I now like better than Larry are Schala from this forum, and ShootingTheShit, which should probably have more views than it does.

Believe or not that Unsullied is the reason

Believe it or not "The Turkish guy" is actually the reason why I watch GoT to begin with. I'm a long time TheYoungTurks fan and Cenk (the turkish guy) once made an off hand remark about GoT being one of his fav shows. I decided I would give it a go. After season 1, I read all the books. The good thing about Cenk and Ben is that they won't be spoiled. They don't frequent forums and if they need clarification John Iadarola (major asoiaf fan) will clue them in. Ben is a professional film critic, Cenk is just an all round awesome guy, John knows his stuff, Ana is actually smarter than she comes across, give her time.

Exactly - I'm a fan of the Young Turks and thus I was more than pleasantly surprised to find out he reviewed GOT.

Cenk is awesome and very passionate about the show and it makes the WhatTheFlick so fun to watch. I wish they were longer.

He called Theon's entire arc this season useless. From what I can tell a lot of people don't like what they see as "torture porn."

Maybe its because he doesn't realise that whole arc isn't just about Theon but also Ramsay Snow.

Yeah he isn't asking the question. "Who is that guy?" maybe because Theon is the recognisable character in the scenes and "Boy" is just a guy causing pain.

Though I think they are giving clues upon clues. Although I did have issues myself with that the latest Theon entry.

I was speaking to a friend about it last night.

At first I was annoyed with Larry at his narrow minded view of the show. He isn't seeing it in a big picture way.

But to be fair. This is television and your average show has episode to season pay offs.

Anyway while I was talking with my friend I realised that I don't know if I could have read the slow torturous breaking down of Theon. In the way they are showing us.

We get to see already broken into Reek. Sure we live some horrific moment through him. But the overload was right on the line.

I think if we keep seeing this. It will be over the line. I can understand why people are not on board with the way this is being handled.

Still Ramsay does need his reveal and.... What kind of man he is. To be known.

We'll see how he feels after this season is done. I guess. He has been known to go back rather easily after his 'line in the sand moments'. He gets emotional. And Theon becoming a eunuch was pretty brutal.

Totally agree with Larry about Theon. The Dreadfort apologists are desperately grasping at straws at this point. The argument for it has boiled down to that the scenes are needed to develop Ramsay and see Theon's breakdown on screen. Who cares? The point of any storyline in this adaptation should be good television, And this is not good television. Yeah, the show misses the mark in some other areas, but the torture is batting .000 and it sticks out like a sore (flayed) thumb.

Well said. Honestly, Ramsey isn't that deep of a character to develop. He is crazy, he likes to torture people for pleasure. The end.

Martin didn't bother spending POV chapters going deep into what makes Ramsey tick or trying to show the reader the step by step deconstruction from Theon to Reek. He didn't really need too. The show is in a different position because they have a budget/are paying an actor so they can't really take a break & show the end result of what happened. Still, I think Larry's viewpoint is very valid in terms of criticizing the repetitiveness of those scenes & the need for them on a week-to-week basis.

Maybe there is an angle I can't see. But I don't see any other reason to drag out the reveal and these torture scenes other than. Once it is done the bastard is identified. There isn't much more to tell. Like you both said - We get it. He is wrecking Theon. He is demented. And he is doing it because he wants to. Though the use of the women doing his biding freely with seemingly no fear. IMO muddied the water a bit.

But then again. Even though we have until ADWD until we see Reek.

FFCs and ADWD run along about the same time line.

Theon and Ramsay actually don't have to be gone from the show as long as readers felt it was. So we will know exactly where we left them and what was happening. Because their reappearance could probably be relatively soon.

Actually wonder how they are going to work the relative time lines in the season splits.

But yeah I feel like it has failed in the way Theon and Ramsay has been handled. By the way TV only watchers are receiving it. Still early days yet.
