Westeros
After a long, long search, HBO and the Game of Thrones production have at last found their Mance Rayder, the former ranger who now calls himself King-beyond-the-Wall. According to James Hibberd at EW, <a href="http://insidetv.ew.c...">Ciarán Hinds has been cast</em>. The Belfast-native actor has a long and distinguished career, playing everything from King Lot in John Boorman’s Excalibur to the proud but tormented Brian de Bois-Guilbert tormented villains in the (very good) Ivanhoe miniseries and on to significant roles in Hollywood films such as The Sum of All Fears, John Carter, and the well-reviewed Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.But Hinds may be best-known to HBO fans for his gravitas in HBO’s much-missed Rome, the most expensive TV series the cable network has produced. His Julius Caesar may give a taste—just a taste—of the commanding presence he’ll bring to the role of Mance Rayder.read on >>>Visit the Site! Mark Antony
I was hoping he would be Doran but not mad at all at the casting. Caesar!
LiamBridge
Not quite what I hand in mind, but I'm sure he'll be great.

Padraig
Wow. That's a very big name (relatively speaking) for somebody who doesn't have that big a role in the books. I'm surprised but he is a great actor, so its a nice surprise.
Abaddon
Can he sing? Can he fight?I don't know much about Hinds, but he certainly has the credentials for the job.
Bayard
He is a great actor, but I don't think he fits Mance.
Greyjoy67
He's very versatile. He managed to pull off Dumbledore's brother in the last Harry Potter film, something I would never have dreamed of working.
Jolene Brown
I love Ciaran Hinds, but he is definitely not what I would have expected for this particular role. The casting has been pretty impeccable though, so I'm sure it will work out well.
Sound_of_winter
Not what I expected at all, I imagined someone handsome and rugged. But GOT always chooses the right cast and know what they are doing, can't wait!
Masamune
I never imagined Mace Rayder to be a guy pushing 60, tbh.I'm sceptical. The article highlights the actor's "gravitas" and "commanding presence"... which are basically the opposite of Mance Rayder's character. He's not supposed to be this epic, grandiose leader. Such a man would not blend into the crowd as Mance does. Mance woos and disarms people with his subtle charm. *shrug* We'll see.
Noelle Snow
I'm actually ok with this casting. He's not who I pictured (James Purefoy girl here) but now that he's cast I can see it quite clearly in my head and it works. He's a strong actor and has a great presence which is what an actor playing Mance needs. I also didn't picture Mance this old but I think he is supposed to be in his fifties in the book.I think he'll be great!
Dark14
loved him in Rome didn't see him in this part though i am excited! Now we just need Purefoy in this.
comandante
He's a really good actor. He is a bit old for the role but whatever. Very good choice !

unforgiven
Not what I had thought, but I'm very excited at this news. I thought his fellow Rome actor James Purefoy would have been a great Mance, but I'm confident that Ciaran is gonna deliver a great performance! Caro99
He will be great- he is a bit old but his amazong acting skills will blow us all away- wonderful choice hbo!!
Dawn Age
I think he is about the right age. Mance isn't suppose to be a young guy if he is described with grey hair with lines on his face. This guy can pull it off.
Top Notch Balanter
Thats Class i always imagined him as Doran but he will be a great Mance
