Reek Da Villain
Why is it so easy to dismiss Jon's dark grey eyes? Are there any documented Targaryens who didn't have violet eyes?
LaylaC
Too many to point all of them: princess Rhaenys, Shiera Seastar, Bloodraven, Queen Alysanne...
Lady Nastja
There are many Targaryens who didn't have violet eyes, and given that Jon's mother would have had Stark (grey) eyes, its not out of the ordinary that Jon would take her eyes rather than Rhaegar's. Mad Monkey
We know that Targaryen traits don't always cover up the traits of non-Targaryens. Rhaenys Targaryen takes after Elia Martell, not Rhaegar Targaryen, for instance with dark hair and dusky skin.
Prince of the North
I looked at the wiki and it doesn't say what color Baelor Breakspear's eyes were but he had the dark hair of his Dornish mother.
Jon's Queen Consort
his own siter had dark brown-black eyes.fellow Targs without purple eyes: Baelor, Alysanne, Valarr
Alexander the Drake
Of the canon Targaryens who are described in-text: Prince Valarr Targaryen from the Dunk & Egg novellas has blue eyes. (Bloodraven is an albino and doesn't count for the purposes of this, IMHO.)Semi-canon Targaryens who haven't had their eyes described in the series, but GRRM wrote descriptions for the artbook artist: Alysanne Targaryen had blue eyes, and Shiera Seastar had one blue eye and one green eye.We actually don't get a specific description of Rhaenys Targaryen's eyes. All Martin says in his SSM is that she took after her mother and looked more like a Martell than a Targaryen, which could have meant dark hair, olive skin, but still purple eyes, or black eyes like Princess Elia had. (And when in disguise or dim light, a lot of purple eyes are said to look black, like Egg's or Darkstar's.)
Ingelheim
Targaryen (and Valyrian) blood is weak against Westeros blood. That's why they married their own family.
Reek Da Villain
Too many to point all of them: princess Rhaenys, Shiera Seastar, Bloodraven, Queen Alysanne... Where is the a description of Rhaenys' eye color? Shiera had a defect. Bloodraven had red eyes; that's a mystery in itself. Queen Alysanne had blue eyes, you're right, but blue is not as far off from purple as dark grey is.

By your logic Egg had deep and dark and purple almost black eyes and Jon has deep grey almost black eyes, both almost black which are the same

The Dornishman's Wife
Egg's eyes were dark but they were still revealed to be purple. No one has made mention of Jon's eyes appearing purple---yet.Yes, and noone has made mention of Valarr's or Alysanne's etc eyes appearing purple - cause they aren't. JQC only mentioned that if you use the "oh, but all colours are similar" argument, then Jon's colour is similar as well.In any case, I think we've had enough examples that the idea that Jon might have gotten his mother's eyes doesn't appear as impossible as (for whatever reason) it appeared to you when you opened this thread. Case closed, no?

Jon's eyes are darker than grey, and that could be because of a mix between Lyanna's grey and Rhaegar's dark eyes

Dr. Pepper
It's easy to dismiss Jon's dark grey eyes because there are documented cases of those with Targaryen blood not having purple eyes. The Baratheons, the Martells, Alysanne, Shiera, Bloodraven, Baelor and his get, Rhaenys daught of Rhaegar. Obviously, if no Targ-blooded descendant ever existed without purple eyes, it wouldn't be so easy to dismiss.

Prince of the North
Yes, the bottom line is that the fact that Jon has dark grey eyes in no way eliminates the possibility that his father was Rhaegar Targaryen.
