The famous 10% figure is actually a mis-characterization of Kinsey's report on male homosexuality. 10% is the figure of combined category 5 and 6. There were only 3% who classified as 6 on his scale, whereas about 35% (this is from memory - don't have the source with me any more) were recorded as Kinsey 0.

Also, not sure where you get the "have loads of kids" thing from. Which society do you live in? In most modernized countries, the average birth rate is down, suggesting that the majority of people in these countries have decided not to have too many children.

Kinsey himself never promoted a specific figure. In analyzing his research one must always remember that he did NOT have a random sample, and that he also focused on behavior much more than desire or identification.

Ok, I was specifically thinking of those from Thailand though, and that's the word they use. There's a show on tv here (UK) called Ladyboys and I don't think there's been any major complaints. I wouldn't call a white transsexual a ladyboy.

By that I mean you can't tell they are transsexual.

The facial features of white and black men make that difficult with current technology.

Not sure about the numbers, I just believe there are about as many straight people as there are gay people, the rest is something in between, including the ones who lean heavily on one side of the spectrum.

And that is recent, the damage has been done, the world is already overpopulated. Modernised countries make up a small part of the planet anyway. There are still too many people who have too many kids, and too many people who are forced to have kids. I am bisexual and relatives try to convince me to settle down with a girl because she can have my kids all the time.

In Thailand they have seperate bathrooms for so-called "ladyboys". I'm not sure if there it would be proper to refer to trans women instead, or if Thai in transition identify as a third sex. Anyone with more insight on Thai society?

I did some stuff on that at uni but it was nearly 15 years ago and that's a period of my life where I have some pretty serious memory issues so don't take anything I say here as fact.

My understanding is the traditional 'ladyboys' (if I wasn't on my phone I'd google the thai term here) aren't generally considered transgender and many, maybe most, wouldn't identify as women. From what little I've heard of the tv show I think those that they focus on tend to be from the identify female end of the spectrum.

I think all would fall under the trans* umbrella in western terms, again though I'm really not trusting my memory here so hopefully someone who knows more can chime in.
