Condon and House Cerwyn

Recommended Posts

Ser Kyle Condon was Lord Cerwyn's right-hand man - in a similar way to how Kevan is Tywin's right-hand man.

After Lord Cerwyn died in Harrenhal from wounds, sustained during the Battle of the Green Fork, the Cerwyn forces in Roose's army probably went to Kyle Condon.

The Lordship of Cerwyn, however, passed to Cley, the 14 yo son of Lord Medger. Cley was one of the three commanders slaughtered by Ramsay Bolton outside of Winterfell. After that Cerwyn passed to his sister Jonella, who submitted to the new Bolton regime (I think unwillingly, like Ours Is The Stannis said).

Kyle Condon and Ronnel Stout (who is from a minor House, sworn to the Dustins of Barrowton) were left with 600 men to guard the Ruby Ford. That's the last we hear of them, and it happens before the Red Wedding. Where they are now is anyone's guess.

Here's my guess.

Since both their overlords swore fealty to the Boltons, those 600 should be loyal to the new regime now. However, I don't think that's true. For one thing, there are a lot of leaderless northerners roaming the Riverlands - and those 600 might become the core of a small Stark/Tully loyal army.

For another, their last known location is very, very interesting for two reasons.

1. The Blackfish. If he keeps swimming downriver, he will, eventually, find his way to the Ruby Ford.

2. Harrion Karstark. He is currently being held captive at Maidenpool, which is quite close to the Ruby Ford. Maidenpool was under Randyll Tarly's command for a while, but we know that he left it and went to King's Landing, presumably with most (if not all) of his forces.

So we have a leader (the Blackfish) swimming downriver to a leaderless force (the 600), with another leader (Harrion) held in captivity close to their last known position, in a (probably) ligthly-held castle, while all hell is about to break loose in the capital.

The remaining Cerwyn troops under Condon were pretty much sacrificed by Bolton and are probably dead.

Though I do hold out hope he might be the Hooded Man of Winterfell.

The Stout/Cerwyn men were left on the northern shore of the Ruby Ford - so they weren't part of the force that got slaughtered on the southern bank by Clegane. We also haven't heard anything about another battle there, so they are probably still alive.

Ok. Interesting.

Ok. Interesting.

And they aren't the only interesting people to be unaccounted for in the Riverlands. When Lady Stoneheart took command of the BWB, Edric Dayne and some others left it. They are probably still in the Riverlands.

Well some are maybe. But I actually think Edric is heading back to Dorne. His role was with Beric, and when Beric died he was no longer tied to the Brotherhood. He has a fancy sword to pick up back in Dorne!

I think Ser Kyle Condon and his troops are at Greywater Watch. I believe that the BF, Edric Dayne's part of the BWB and the party lead by Maege Mormont and Galbart Glover are all gathered there, planning their next move.

Very interesting. I agree though i don't see them being loyal to the Bolton's. I believe the entire north is just waiting for their opportunity to screw him over. In the show they made it a point for Roose to say that Tywin gave Roose the North but he won't lift a finger to help him keep it. Good stuff.

How would they get passed The Twins?

Edric's band of outlaws now the Riverlands really well. They led the 600 passed the Twins into the swamp. There the crannogmen found them and lead them to Greywater Watch.

This is pretty much it... there is no indication this force fell to Clegane, and logistics and reports that we have argue against that. Remember that the force Robb sent west with Maege and Galbart was instructed to sail into the Neck flying the Stark banner and the crannogmen would find them? The same would no doubt apply to a mounted group seeking passage around the swamps. Remember from the northern shore of the Ruby Ford there would be no need to use the passage at the Twins. Simply follow the King's Road into the Neck and wait for crannogmen (known allies) to find them.

I agree the Condon/Stout 600 are still loyal to the Stark cause, mostly because I think there's compelling evidence that Lady Dustin and Lady Cerwyn both are and we've been told there are bands of northerners still about. I think the 600 are still together, but they have an able leader in Kyle Condon. It's possible that Harrion Karstark could meet up with them if he was indeed released or escaped from Maidenpool or also possible that they've met up with Galbart Glover and Maege Mormont in the Neck. They could have also melted into the Vale to seek passage to White Harbor (a more remote possibility, but geographically possible)

I don't think the Blackfish is heading downriver though. For a variety of reasons, I'm pretty sure he's heading west with the BwB to mastermind another ambush at the Golden Tooth.

The Blackfish I think is swimming down that way so hell assume command of them then sack Maidenpool (Tarly left for KL) and get Harrion then theyll march on Riverrun, gathering up more wayward Northern forces along the way and any Riverlords who are willing and able to help them.

They're still out there somewhere. There's nothing whatsoever in the story that suggests Clegane got them; this is after the actual Ruby Ford battle. Some have suggested that Roose just plain killed them all, but in that case, there's no reason to give Robb the cover story he did. Claim they died fighting in the Ruby Ford battle and leave it.

If you look at the makeup, it's guys who are loyal to the Dustins, the Ryswells and the Cerwyns, plus some mountain types and some other stragglers. If you think Lady Dustin and House Cerwyn are true-blue for Roose now, then it's odd that Roose didn't take them to the Twins. He took his own people and some Karstarks, i.e. people he trusted and people who were already iffy with Robb. It follows that he left the men he did because they were loyal to Robb and he didn't want them available to fight at the wedding. At the very least it should raise eyebrows about Lady Dustin's loyalties.

The Riverlands general area is basically, along with the Neck, a giant plot pot full of wolves, northern stragglers, Riverrun men, the Brotherhood, the Blackfish and who the hell knows how many other people. It has to come together at some point.

One of the more interesting thing about House Cerwyn and Condon is that they may have someone who can ID Jeyne Poole as Jeyne Poole and not Arya Stark since they are supposed to be frequent visitors to Winterfell. How, they manage that from The Riverlands, I'm not sure. I tend to think the Blackfish has gone to try to spirit Edmure out of the Westerlands or take Roslin and her child on their way west. The Riverlands need a secured Tully heir to support, once they have that, they will resume their rebellion.

They don't have to use the bridge, but they still have to pass through Frey territory. The question is, can a force of 600 men be marched so close to the twins without old Walder noticing?

And also, when would they do that? After the Red Wedding, Roose used that way to take his force of about 5000 men through the Neck - and he was sitting on the causeway for a while, waiting for Ramsay to take the Moat for the Ironborn. I doubt a force of 600 men could slip behind him without him noticing.

The problem is that every step Brynden takes east takes him 2 steps further from the possibility to free his nephew and his queen from the Lannisters. So, Lady Gwyn is probably right - even though everybody (even Jaime) expects the Blackfish to do just that. The Young Wolf's Queen and Edmure Tully are on their way to the Rock and once they reach it, they'll be almost impossible to spring out. I think Lady Gwyn is right and the Blackfish might be cooking something on the road - even though Jaime quadrupled that escort in the last minute.
