Ser Cold Fingers
Cover art. Go to George R R Martin's website...go to books...click on The World of Ice and Fire...pick your Retailer (Amazon) and buy that book. That way you know you will get the official, real version and not get ripped off. Don't trust the ants.

Ser Cold Fingers
Any particular reason? Apart from the cooler cover art :) Bantam is the publisher that is most associated with ASoIaF IIRC.
Melifeather
The reddish-brown cover was the one I saw on GRRM's blog.
Ser Quork
The reddish-brown cover was the one I saw on GRRM's blog. The black cover is the version for sale in the UK, the brown is the US version. They're both official.
Which Tyler
This one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-World-Ice-Fire-Westeros/dp/0553805444 and this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-World-Ice-Fire-Song/dp/0007580916 I'd say that £65 is the biggest difference
In A Coat of Gold
Why the huge gulf in price? Why would anyone buy the brown one if they are the same?
ChillyPolly
Why the huge gulf in price? Why would anyone buy the brown one if they are the same? Because some people will buy anything, just to have everything. There is not in fact a huge gulf in price. It is just Amazon-UK is offering the US version at a ridiculous price, and the UK version at a reasonable price. It is expected that most UK customers will buy the UK version. On Amazon [u.S.] the price for the U.S. version is not nearly so ridiculous. Edit: Scratch That! Looks like the ridiculously-priced copy is a single used copy. Someone obtained an advance copy which they are trying to sell.
Whitering
It's $29.00 Canadian at Amazon.ca, so I don't know what's going on. I pre-ordered it a long time ago, I don't remember what I paid.
UtherSnow
Just arrived, in the past few minutes, from Amazon UK. Mine is the black.Let's do this old skool! No snapshot! It's a paper outer over a hardcover book. Itself, the book is dusty sort of grey with a silver three-headed dragon (facing left - westward?). Silver for the title and info lettering along the spine. Reverse, is clear. A quick flip of the pages.....AH!!!Inside..... To misquote 'Apocalypse Now!', I love the smell of a new book in the morning. It's that fresh off the press..... The coffee is almost ready..... I shall emerge later..... VALAR DOHAERIS!

ChillyPolly
???? As far as my eyes can tell me, the UK version (black cover) is cheaper than the US version. It's 14.95 pounds. Exactly. What is it about what I said that you did not understand? Note that the information has now changed for the US version. There are now more used copies available on Amazon UK (6 instead of 1), and the prices they are being sold at is no longer quite so ridiculous (30 pounds and up, instead of, IIRC, 98 pounds). Used copies are not sold at a set price, but at whatever the seller thinks he can get.
