WinterKing,

That's... very odd. I've no idea why that would happen, except perhaps for a bug of some sort.

Re: this morning's down time,

Something went wonky and spit out many, many gigabytes of logs for no good reason. These filled up the primary partition, which ended up leading to stuff freezing up. All fixed now.

Thank God! I thought this was something to do with traffic (with it being Saturday).

Couldn't face having to go out and socialise again :P

This was not the first time I received that message, twice before it happened, usually when I tried to edit a post.

EDIT:I forgot to add that the first time was a week before season 3 began.

You can search the forum anytime you like with a google search.

Just type this in front of whatever you want to search for:

site:asoiaf.westeros.org [search terms]

This is how I search the forum at all times.

Good point. I was actually thinking more of the "View New Content" function, which I use all the time is disabled because it is technically a "search."

But like I said before, I'm glad the board is still working overall.

samih,

That's happened to me before when trying to put topics up or posting. I take copies now into Word just in case.

The problem I've got at the moment is that the search function is disabled at my end, so I can't access threads via my profile. A week ago I had a worse problem and had to contact a mod via e-mail. I wasn't banned or suspended, but I couldn't even log in.

Could someone please take a look at why I can't access my profile to bring threads up, because this problem has lasted around a week?

Okay. How long will this keep up for, though? I joined about maybe two months ago but haven't noticed this before.

Probably until the end of the GoT season.

Which is not to say that performance mode will necessarily be constantly in operation until then: just that it might be on at any given time, and certainly will for the days in the week when episodes are broadcast.

My post count seems to be stuck on 40 since this morning, is this happening to other people too?

I noticed some of your most recent posts are in the games section; these do not go towards your post count.

I'd recommend posting in one of the main forums (if you have something relevant of course) and see if the issue still occurs.

My bad.

On the plus side, it looks like experimenting with new setups paid off; combined with Performance Mode, the server seemed to handle the load during last night's episode pretty well! To give you guys an idea what the server goes through, here is an image of segfault's bandwidth.

Note that during an episode, we're pretty much at a sustained 28Mbit/sec of traffic or greater (spiking up near 50Mbit/sec at the worst), with all the attendant database accesses that implies. ;)

 So when episode 2 was airing, there was three times the normal amount of traffic?
