Board Issues 2

Alas, yes. The hour long crash yesterday was due to the reputation table being corrupted, yet again. So we're retiring it until such time as IPB figures out how to make it less apt to be corrupted when there's any hiccups in the system.

I really enjoy the system as well, but it's just not stable enough for us.

  • 2 weeks later...

While writing comments (At the "More reply options") the cursor occasionally jumps to a different line or to the beginning of the row although I don't press any arrows or such. Quite often if I write something, make a mistake, and start to delete the letters/word, it jumps to a different row and deletes the wrong letters/word.

I use Google Chrome.

This is almost certainly an aspect of the Ajax WYSIWYG editor, and so may be browser-dependent. I'd say 1) try using the non-rich editor and see how that changes things, and 2) see if it still happens with a different browser. (Unfortunately, as the editor is part of Invision, it's probably not something we can change directly, but if you can get more info on what browser this issue happens in and whether this is specific only to the rich editor, a bug report can at least be sent to the Invision folks.)

Hi Ran,

Pebble asked that this be passed along for her:

"Pebble can't log on from work again. She can't even read the main page. This is the error message she gets:

Peb hopes there's something that might be done at this end... Any ideas?

This isn't a problem with the board, but its a problem with Firefox accessing the board and I was hoping someone else knew a way to fix it: Firefox pre-fills "www." in front of the web address making it so I can not actually access the site unless I google it. It's not a huge problem, just a nuisance.

FYI, guys, I just upgraded a bunch of stuff on the server to hopefully avoid Varnish 3.x's timeout bug (the thing that causes the site to become unresponsive under heavy load), which required a brief reboot/clearing of things/restarting everything. We're up now, but the next 15-20 minutes might be marginally slower while all the caches get current and optimized again.

Cheers. :)

I couldn't tell you; according to the server's mail logs, it has been sending email to you (including two just in the past ten minutes) and your mail server has been receiving them. Gmail's last recorded message, for instance, with regards to you was '250 2.0.0 OK 1360874823 rp4si51670220obc.183 - gsmtp' -- or, in other words, that the message was accepted and given a specific message ID for delivery.

Maybe they're ending up in your junk folder, or you have bulk filtering turned on or something similar? Regardless, the issue in your case seems to be on your mailserver's end.

Firefox does this if you don't include a scheme on the URL; the browser will assume anything typed into the message bar that's a host but doesn't have a scheme is someone trying to use a shortcut. The 'scheme' is the actual protocol portion of a URL, such as 'http:' or 'https:' or 'ftp:' or whatever.

So, if you type asoiaf.westeros.org by hand (as opposed to using a bookmark or whatever) and don't have some sort of history matching that will find it in your own recently visited sites, Firefox will go 'I will HELP YOU' and add http://www. on the front. If you type http://asoiaf.westeros.org by hand, however, Firefox will be like 'ah, I see you have put a scheme there, I will not interfere' and will just go to the forum directly. Does that help?

It does, thanks. I guess I should just bookmark it, I'm here enough after all.

This is what im seeing.

Whats that all about?
