I have to say. After watching my favourite character and one of the most intriguing vilinous anti-heroes of all time dying to Sister Ex-All Seeing Powers," if you're happy, you shouldn't be. Chaos is a ladder and all I foresee are your favourite characters being ruined and picked off as well...or at least ruined.

First they came for our Robb's...then they came for our Cat's. They came for our Tyrion's and Jaime's and we did not cry out! They came for our Cersei's and we said, "nay, tis but a Cathy." They came for our Yara's...or...well...Asha's! And we...were like...eh, she's a lesbian? Cool? They came for our Dorne! And gave us soft core porn! They ironed out the Grey and made the Stanbros ga...cry. Varys, we thought thee neutered before, but we didn't comprehend. Arya and Sansa...quoi?

So rest in peace the great player of the game, your contract was up and they couldn't be bothered to write you dialogue.

They turned little finger into an moron. Honestly, he went from being a prodigy at the game to being a child. I could of handled that situation better. Even if little finger didnt have baclup plans(which he should of had) He could easily of denied it all and made it look like they were tryingto frame him.

"Do you deny killing Lysa"  Ofcourse I loved her, you testified she commit suicide. why are you trying to frame me ?

Bran "You held a dagger to neds throat."

"You went North of the wall and are claming you know this by having mythical powers, this is ridiculos"

and so on

Actually, wasn't Aegon V's plan to hatch dragon eggs in Summerhall because he felt the power of his House was dwindling without dragons?

The only reason even  might need a trial by combat is becuase Sansa is the judge. All she has is claims, and has a clear motive for framing him. However, becuase I as little finger would of given a good speech, maintained my innocence,  and asked the Lords of the Vale to return with me to the Vale at once. Becuase I would not of admited to any of their claims and it looked like they framed me they probaly would of gone with me and the North wpuld of lost the Vale. If they refused, than I would demand a trial by combat and would of already hired the best fighter is essoes as my bodyguard long ago.

Yes, there is that magical horn that the show never introduced. So we'll see.

Doesn't Sam still have the horn he and Jon found with the dragon glass- north of the wall? I think he packed it up when leaving the Citadel.... maybe that is the dragonbinder and not the horn of winter.

All the good stuff happens off screen. They got everything backwards. It's like they are seeing the story upside down, and don't even know it.

So Dany came to King's Landing with her entire army, managed to trap Cersei in the dragon pit, landed there with her two dragons, and left with a truce that everyone knows Cersei won't respect? When will Tyrion be tried for treason?

The man has a point.

Don't get me wrong, it's fine that Jon is Targaryean by birth and the PTWP. But the interesting subversion would have been that he never even knows and ends up defeating the WWs as a nobody under a humble oath that he stays true too.

It's interesting because you would compare the life that "could have been": Crown Prince, inherits the Targaryean throne and defeats the WW with glory, honor, and recognition. Instead he achieves the same great task as a simple Watchman, an unsung hero by virtue of his character, not his name. And the same man (Ned) that helped destroy the first scenario was the man who shaped him into the person he needed to be for the second.

It would have been an awesome flip on the secret prince trope, chosen ones, prophesies, happy endings, etc.

ok, but how about this: what if he doesn't learn it? How about this, because NK and Viseion have "burnt" the wall down,  everyone rushes to The Gift, by passing Winterfell ,he never gets back to meet with Bran and Sam, before the war. Then assuming the lives, he learns about his birth right after the fact. Doesn't change the whole NIght's Watch scenario, because I don't think you can at this point, but maybe makes it less trope?

I can't get over how they handled the biggest reveal in the entire series. Yes, I know just about everyone knew Jon was Rhaegar's son, it may be the most unsecret secret ever, but still. After how many years have people waited, and it is finally confirmed as a creepy voice over when he is humping his aunt.  Nothing but mediocre boatsex. No build up, no foreplay. He should take a lesson from Pod or the virgin dickless Greyworm. Just straight to the humping. With Tyrion listening.

And Littlefinger, I had hoped you would have had a glorious death, but your mustache twirling days came to a boring, slightly unsatisfying end. How did you not have a backup plan(s). Such a waste of a character I loved to hate.

Everything was just kind of ...meh.

Yes he would have... god yes. Its crazy to think of how much great material they left out of the show.... Sheesh

THIS! I feel bad for the Actors! Imagine being Aiden Gilen or Dinklage or Conleth Hill for 5-6 seasons and reduced to this cardboard nonsense in 7?  Aiden Gilen is probably so happy to be done, because season 7 did everything but cut his cock off.

I just love that the Stark kids finally mentioned the loss of Cat.  I've heard non-stop how they all miss Ned but everyone seemed to forget that they had a second parent until they wanted to kill LF. RIP Cat. RIP.

  • Undead dragon did perfectly controlled demolition of the wall with impressive visuals, but questions remain about what they would have done if they never got the dragon?  As visually impressive as it was, wasn't that the expected outcome as soon as the dragon got turned?

RIGHT? and BTW- how much more chilling would it have been without a Ice Dragon- if the real reason the NK could walk through the wall, is because Bran was let through in s6? what -even- then was the purpose of the NK grabbing Bran and marking him?

When she parried Brienne I cringed so hard my GF thought I had a cramp. Dodge...that makes semi-sense. Fantasy sense. Parrying with a thin sword and noodle arms against a valyrian blade and a top-5 strongest person in the world...yikes.

Where to begin?  Oh wait, I know.

Bran's voice-over while J/A and Dany have sex for the first time.  VOICEOVER SEX IS NEVER HOT, NOT EVEN WHEN BARRY WHITE DOES IT.   Am I giving them a pass on the incest because (a) GoT or (b) Targaryens gonna Targaryen? Maybe. But Kit Harrington's ass makes Powdered Toast Man weep, and there just was no reason - after all the rapes and incest and more rapes -to murder this sex scene. Why not cut the cock discussion at the beginning and actually build up to a fucking dramatic moment for once?

Little Finger deserved better. A better death for fook sake, D&D- CHRIST!!!!! Did LF drain his brain of all knowledge by teaching Sansa? SO STUPID!!!! The real LF would have planted the scroll, realized the chaos was afoot, overhear the plans for his trial which could have begun (so Sansa can reveal she's been long conning him all along- or better yet, skip the Bran sex voice-over and do a Sansa voice-over  revealing his charges while  showing scenes of LF escaping Winterfell). LF then high tails it to Kings Landing where he plys Cersei with reconnaissance tidbits, and trades barbs with Eurine Greyjoy, all the while manipulating Eurine into something that ultimately dooms him, while leaving Cersei his ships. Then, LF would head to his brothel, where a hooded man with a crossbow would be waiting (Sansa), and another who turns out to be Arya, who reveals the catspaw and her identity in the last moment.  BUT NOOOOOO. This is why we cannot have nice things.

Theon. Dammit Alfie Allen's talent is Fooking wasted on a fight scene. OH- Did Ramsey cut the frank and beans? I thought it was just the frank, so he'd have all the desire, none of the ability? anyway- those knees to the groin would have hurt anyway. So is Theon headed to Esso to find Euron? Because he ain't at Castle GreySkull....

Still not ok with Viserion's death, ya'll.

Finally:  NOT ONE GHOST SIGHTING.

I don't know, Barry White could pull it off, in a Boogie Nights kinda way.

So, the season finales are never really that great; the "real" season ending episode is usually the penultimate season's episode and this week was sort of similar.  A lot to like, some things to love but, let's be honest, not much has changed.  I mean, look at it this way- if this had been the FOURTH episode of a regular ten-episode season, I don't think we lose much.  I mean, the first few episodes do The Jaime thing at Highgarden; do Jon at Dragonstone; then somehow get a dragon wight and BOOM- you have the same experience.  Anyway

I liked...

The Lannisters: Tyrion, Jaime and Cersei, as Usual:  As a general rule, I like most scenes with a Lannisters because they have to be interesting; Starks get to be Nice and Dany gets to have Dragons, but Lannisters have to actually be interesting without either fan-fav status or ... again, Dragons.  And while Dany + Jon is about as compelling as watching two mannequins in a Macy's window, Cersei and Jaime has energy and style.  The two love and hate each other with so much dedication and desire.  Nikolai is incredible- he is both this dynamic leader but also this war-weary veteran.  I AM STUNNED he was not killed by Cersei.  How did he know she was bluffing?  What a complete character and the actor to boot.

I think Tyrion spoils us; Dinklige is perfect and the writing for Tyrion ranges from "good" to "legendary."  This week was "very good" with that great line "You may try lying..."  So when he merely sticks at "very good" we, somehow, feel cheated.  Tyrion's dialog with Cersei was raw, emotional and very true to rights.  Further, I think Tyrion IS playing both sides to all of this.  I THINK he promised Cersei that if she backed Dany, Cersei's child would inherit the crown after Dany as Dany cannot have any heirs. That's why he was so weird when he heard Dany and Jon doing the nasty (in probably the most boring orgasm yelps you ever heard).

And at the center of all that is Cersei, the best horrible person in Westeros.  What a fucking awesome bitch.  I fucking love hating her.  She is 100000000% right - she has ABSOLUTELY NO INCENTIVE to assist Dany and Jon and she was PERFECTLY JUSTIFIED in requiring the King in the North stay out of any further fighting.  It was a deft move.  The fact that Jon Snow was not having it does not diminish her smart work on this.  Then - like I said - I think Tyrion promised the future throne to Cersei's offspring.  But who knows.  Regardless I think Cersei is doing a lot more than anyone expected.

Also, even if it was an act, I thought her reaction to the Zombie was completely realistic and justified.  I actually think she THOUGHT about doing the right thing given this ... thing.

The Tone: I thought that the overall pace and focus of the episode was great.  I genuinely felt the weight of these decisions and I thought that everything these folks was doing was very important and extremely thought-provoking.  I WILL say that much of it felt all too easy and maybe just a bit of a chore to move through.  But overall, I thought it worked as a great finish to a monstrously uneven season.

A Dragon of Fire-Ice: Fuck it- I liked that last scene.  It was fucking great.  Enjoyed it all.

On the Fence:

They Call Me Theon the Cockless:  That whole scene... meh... just punch him someplace else.  Also, pretty sure you still have nerve endings down there.  I just thought that this scene which was supposed to be incredibly important and character defining felt hollow and lame.

The Wooden Royalty:  I feel ABSOLUTELY no chemistry between Dany and Jon.  NONE.  I can't believe that these two character favorites inspire ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in the fan-base.  Part of me think its the writing - the writers have pushed the speed to 11 so the quality is hovering right around 4, so they could not lay the foundation of the two main characters' attraction, but another part of me thinks... maybe... just MAYBE ... Harrington and Emilia Clark... just ... aren't very good actors.  They are bringing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to the table.  Now, Harrington was GREAT with Rose Leslie (Ygritte), but she was a legit actress.  There is a greater-than-zero-percent chance Clark is a bad actress.  Oh, and that so is Harington.  Now, I will say that there is still a chance they prove me wrong but ... they feel so wooden I half expect Stannis to try to burn them.

The Ease of the Surveillance State: So... Bran is just basically the Office of Homeland Security, right?  He's NIS and the CIA combined into some ungodly vision machine?  He sees everything, right?  So... is that somehow interesting?  Because it feels SUPER boring, uninspired and lame (no... no pun intended).  Now, I will say I LIKED that he brought us back to Lyanna and Rhaegar's wedding to state once-and-for-all that Robert was a jerkface and Rhaegar was not a horrible rapist.  But I hope in the books (tentative release date: 201never) its handled better with Howland Reed and not some strange super-computer.

What I Did Not Like:

The Most Cunning Plan EVERYONE SAW COMING 1000 MILES AWAY!!!: God the writing sucks.  Sansa and Arya hatched a plan- literally - everyone saw coming.  I said two weeks ago that we will come to know that Arya knew about the letter Littlefinger planted the whole time and that was - essentially - confirmed as Arya and Sansa were somehow able to lay a trap anyone could see coming... anyone except the master of traps who we have all come to respect for 7 seasons... no.. that guy- suddenly oblivious.  The only way that scene could have been any more obvious would have been if Dany tried to hatch it.  I DID sort of like how the two came toigether... but come on?  That was the ONLY way that scene could have played out.

Also... remember when Arya used to be fun?  Why is it every time she  talks now, its like reading the casualty reports from Nam?  There is no joy to her anymore.  And the scenes she has are taken wayyyyyy too seriously.  Loosen the fuck up!  Even for a minute!  Tell a joke!   Smile!  Make me not want to slit my wrists!  ANYTHING!

So, overall, a solid episode that did the yeoman work the season lacked to this point.  This episode made up for what the other ones lacked.

But the season was woefully uneven.  It went too slow and then too fast.  Hated the laziness and haphazard way of story-telling and disliked how the show seemed to stumble on where it needed to be- that it got there regardless of how unrealistic GETTING THERE was.  Can't say it was as bad as season 5, but nowhere near season 3 or 4 and not even as good as 6, which was pretty mediocre.

Overall season: C+ and I am being generous.

Apperently that year(?) of Assassinating people training is far superior to training to fight by the sword your entire life, being naturally talented at it and getting into many battles. If Ariya trains for another year she will wreck Ser Author Dayne with the sword of the monring in combat with that valerian dagger.
