He only reviews things he thinks are good, or at least somewhat likes. That is not the same thing.

I think 2001 is better, but I might recommend Rama to you specifically because it's also, you know, classic, and of the two much more the one where you'll immediately see where Expanse took inspirations from.

I dunno Mauricio, if I was gonna try 'we can't win anything with kids' as a defence I wouldn't do it against one of the class of '92. -
Ancillary Justice rocks. One I also really loved was the Machinieries of Empire trilogy by Yoon Ha-Lee. It's a bit more out-there, less grounded than Expanse (definitely more on the space-fantasy side of things), but I think it's great. Particularly recommended if you at all like the character of Thrawn in Star Wars. Some of Elizabeth Bear's SF stuff may also appeal. I particularly like the Jacob's Ladder trilogy. Are you particularly set on a specific type of SF, that space-opera-ish kind? Despite being a different sort of story than anything he wrote, Expanse is very influenced, directly, by Arthur C Clarke, so something like Rendezvous with Rama or 2001 might be worth a try if you've never read them.

I didn't watch this game (and I'm glad) but over on twitter I'm seeing Chelsea fans, for maybe the first time, start to get pissed off with Enzo Fernandez. -
To be fair, I can understand them removing Aang and Korra's romance. I always thought it was akward enough in the cartoon - the difference between 12 and 14 is a lot (and pretty apparent in the portrayal, Katara clearly being a lot more mature than Aang throughout). When you're using live action with actors at similar ages where the actual age gap is even bigger- yeah, I get it.

Now just hoping that Bournemouth can take City and then Arsenal keep Newcastle out of contention for catching up to us. Was nice to see that both Forson and Amad are ahead of Antony in the pecking order as of the moment. -

With Hojlund injured, Omari Forson comes into the side ahead of either Antony or Amad. Interesting one. Will probably mean Rashford up front since Forson isn't a central forward by trade either, but I think he might have played there once or twice in the academy? Not sure. Either way, at least ETH has seemingly finally lost patience with Antony, at least for now. -
I should get back and finish Ori. It's also channeling Hollow Knight in places, but what metroidvanias aren't drawing from at least one of those pair these days.

A release date for this metroidvania and I really really hope it plays as well as it looks.

It's lazy to say that insisting on a name that, for many, is not associated with positive leftist ideals or even the concept of uniting workers etc but with a repressive and, in many nations, brutal, authoritarian regime, is unhelpful in getting those leftist ideals across? Come on. In America and Western Europe maybe. In countries that were ruled by communism- not so much, for the most part. This isn't even about the positions themselves. I don't call myself leftist because I'm no kind of activist but I think if I sat and nailed down my actual beliefs and shit I'd be pretty left-wing by most people's standards. I just get fucking infuriated by the combination of callousness and naivety shown by Western leftists that leads to positions ranging from proudly declaring themselves communist (annoying but not directly offensive) and displaying the hammer and sickle (I know one of our bestest forum users uses it, I've always haaaaaaated it, but meh) through to outright Soviet fanboyism and, in more extreme cases, Holodomor denialism and similar. (I was in an argument yesterday in which two separate people dismissed the Holodomor to me - one of them outright calling it a lie - so that's fresh on my mind. I'm not accusing anyone here of that, but it's a spectrum of behaviour that commonly comes from one initial instinct- that the American-led capitalist world is bad and therefore opposition to it must be good. Some of it is worse than others but it all annoys me).
-
The argument isn't that you can't have anything other than capitalism. It's that sometimes anti-capitalist arguments are presented in a way that makes it seem like eradicating capitalism would eradicate economic and social problems no matter what you replaced it with, which obviously is not true. I don't think anyone here actually thinks that, but posts phrased that way pop up fairly often. Communism can fuck off though. Communism sucks. I hate it when modern leftists call themselves communists- way to alienate a good portion of the world because they can't bring themselves to drop a name that was used by regimes that oppressed half the world and killed millions. It's infuriating. And I do get the instinct to try to 'reclaim' terms... I just don't think it's useful to 'reclaim' a term that didn't hurt you.

Rings of Power 5: I Will Take the Thread to Reddit

"No-one ever said elves are nice. Elves are bad." That's a direct quote from the greatest writer of fantasy and he should know so ner-ner-ner to the misread Tolkien fanboy. edit: I just realised I made basically the same joke in the last thread. I'm losing it. -
To be fair like Borderlands 3 - from 2019 - sold pretty similarly to Borderlands 2- faster off the mark, though as far as I can tell tailed off a bit quicker (but still hit at least 18mil, per wikipedia). A quick google suggests that Take-Two are building up to potentially announce Borderlands 4 in the next week or two, albeit the game itself may not be due for a few years. So there might be a new wave of hype coming that they want to build off.

Looks like Lindsay Hoyle has properly stacked it today. -
I'm not at all familiar with Borderlands but as a film that looks like it could have been good but the writing, just based on the trailer, seems execrable. So many clunky lines and deliveries.

Penny's Big Breakaway shadowdropped today on the Switch partner showcase. Nice. Hope it gets good reviews, because it looks banging. The Sonic Mania team flexing that they can do a high-pace platformer in 3D. Also announced: Pentiment coming on Switch tomorrow.

My brother showed me this goal today. Why had I never seen it before. That's a Seedorf-vs-Atleti level ATG goal. -
