How Stannis could win the North.

The Sleeper

Recommended Posts

He is Robb's heir and universally acceptable by the northmen. It also reconciles Stannis' claim with Bran's claim as King in the North ( at least some Northmen would want to pursue this). Bran might even sway the riverlands on Stannis side. This isn't the case neither with Rickon nor with Jon.

As for children, maybe, maybe not.

Even if Stannis produced Bran or Rickon now, not everyone would believe him.

It's far easier to swallow that after Eddard's downfall the Lannisters kept "Arya" as a prisoner, than to believe that after the Ironborn killed the boys and put their heads on spikes (a "fact" that was believed by family, bannermen and everyone at Winterfell), they suddenly reappear.

Ain't no one gonna deny a boy that looks part-Tully and owns a direwolf. That direwolf is better than a DNA test.

Summer and Shaggy Dog would provide definitive proof that Bran and Rickon are the real deal.

Not really, Arya was presumed dead for quite a while before Bolton produced Jeyne Pool. Even if there wasn't Summer, Bran actually held court in Winterfell up until Theon. There is a number of northern lords who have met him personally. It would be quite impossible to refute his identity.

Give them their Vengeance. It's what they want. Kill the Boltons. Kill the Freys. Kill the Lannisters. It's as easy as A,B, C...

And then it would be thank you and good bye and have a nice life. Besides he has 1500 soldiers how is he supposed to do that? If predominantly northern troops do it then they would be doing it themselves. What's the point of Stannis then?

Unless the Baratheon betray R'hllor for the old gods, then no Stark will accept to marry Shireen.

Marriage between people of different religions has never been a problem before. Besides Bran doesn't need to be married before the old gods. He is one of them.

He wants their allegiance not their help.

Remember when he sent out ravens demanding fealty and got owned by a little girl? Make no mistake: Stannis is a broke beggar. Once Jon taught him how to win over the north, he was able to gain the help of the mountain clans.

How is it begging when the other party just gets as much from the deal as him? Clearly they can't get rid of the Boltons on their own or otherwise they would have done it.

He was broken after Blackwater, but now he seems to be in a surprisingly good mood despite the odds. I'd say he's far from broken as of recent.

That is the whole point. He needs a Stark. Nothing less will do than his heir.
