I see no purpose in Pod either at the moment, other then what you said.  He's a background piece so Brienne isn't all by herself.

Pod and Sansa 4ever. I believe. ;) But honestly I think Pod was fantastic in KL as Tyrion's squire so a lot of him being around is that they just weren't ready to let go of his crc. I'm guessing he does something important before he goes.

Poor Podrick is being unfairly maligned! In the books (and the show too if I remember correctly) he saves Tyrion's life during the battle of the blackwater. He's been training with Brienne since then. I think he could be really useful in a battle and isn't just there as her companion/decoration.

Yeah they did make a point of first establishing that Brienne was training him, then giving him that extra training with Bronn. I don't know that he'll do anything spectacular, but I bet he'll be around for the final battle at least.

The more I think about it, the more I wonder if he'll not only survive the story, but also wind up being one of the new head knights of Winterfell when it's all said and done.

Think about it.  Everyone just assumes that if you are useless in GOT (books and/or show) you're going to die eventually.  I don't think that is necessarily the case for *everyone*.  That's just a blanket assumption we make in this universe due to the way GRRM has treated minor characters.

When this war and battle is all over with, Winterfell (as well as other places) is going to be in dire need of some knights and soldiers.  And I'm not talking about generic foot soldiers.  I'm talking leaders, people of authority, head guards, masters of arms etc etc.  The realm is going to need good people to help build it back up, and I think that's where people like Pod, Gendry, (and yes, maybe even Sandor Clegane) etc come into play.  Characters who don't necessarily have an end-game, but aren't exactly involved in any major conflicts either.

These, IMO, are going to be the post-ASOIAF stars.  The "new wave" if you want to call it that.  I could envision a scenario where Sansa winds up being on the Iron Throne, making Brienne the new commander of the Kingsguard, with Brienne knighting Pod and him also becoming a member (Just a random scenario I just made up, don't take that literal lol).

I guess my point is, not everyone is going to die in this series, and I'm starting to believe that the minor characters that look insignificant at the moment will become important members in the post-ASOIAF world.

Sam is going to play a part in figuring out how to end the coming war, learn at the citadel etc. He will be around for a while. He seems alot more important then pod. Pod is great tho :^)

It's just that, i can't help but seeing him go down the same road as arya. Sets out on a journey to learn something important, go through a series of misfortunate that he will survive from bc he has the thickest plot armor in the show, and ends up learning it but not really. I'm not saying pod is more important, but I do find him more bearable

Pod's basically a non-entity anyway. Just background decor for Brienne scenes. He only spoke so much last episode because of his history with Bronn.

Sam, probably to either discover something integral in Oldtown, and to bring another Valyrian steel sword to the table. Also, maybe Randyll Tarly might play a role in King's Landing after Cersei goes Mad Queen.

Without going into details, Pod's role in the books is not as dumb as in the show and he's not comic relief (the show turns everyone into comic relief, even Tyrion this season).

Btw I tend to think both Pd and Sam will survive the war

Sam is one of the only poeple who knows where bran went also. I wonder if he will ever talk about that

Did this happen on the show? I know in the books Bran and Sam met, but I don't remember it happening in the HBO version.

Pod will marry Danaerys. Who else could satisfy a dragon?

I always did wonder if Pod being a sexual Dynamo was going to be a relevant plot point, since they like to keep mentioning his "magic cock".

How can Sam venture on to the Citadel?  Isn't that the first place the Tarleys will come looking for their Valyrian steel sword?  And we already know that the maesters in the Citadel won't allow Gilly in, so Sam wouldn't be able to protect her.  I think that Sam is on a different track tbd.

I agree that it would be stupid of Sam to go to the Citadel, because of the obvious threat of his dad immediately finding him there. But that doesn't mean he won't go there.

I could see him going to the Citadel and being intercepted by whichever character will loosely take Marwyn the Mage's role. I wouldn't even be surprised if he was intercepted by whichever sandsnake is in the area, she takes him to Marwyn, we get a huge info dump and he gets sent back north with a stupid Dornish escort. Who knows though, I've been pretty much wrong about everything that I thought I saw coming this season.

Why are they still in the story? Who lives the longest? Will they ever meet? Are they comic relief or do they play a role in The Wars to Come? Now that Sam has the Valerian Steel Sword, he should appear again.

Pod's a great guy at a party, so he's good to have around.

Sam, I think, is destined for MUCH bigger things.  He's been studying books for some time, and is now going to the Citadel to study MORE books.  I've strongly believed for a LONG time that Sam is going to discover critically important information in a book and give that information to Jon (he's already done that to a certain extent, but I'm talking about BIG information, game changing information)

Sam met with Bran&co in the show as well. As a matter of fact, he even told Jon about it(he din't in the books), but I guess D&D forgot, don't care or just retconed the thing to make Sansa or Jon the new K(Q)itN.

Eh, to be fair (which I don't really want to do), Bran and company's chances of survival north of the Wall for any length of time, according to everything that Jon knows, would have been extremely slim .. at best.

Bran's likely down as Missing North of the Wall, Presumed Dead.

Ah, ok. I vaguely remember, but I definitely remember it happening in the books.
